Chance snorted with laughter. "Yes, that's me exactly," he said in a deadpan voice. "Your accents are getting pretty good, I do have to say, though admittedly I've never seen Winnie the Pooh. I've heard of it, though, it's a movie, right? Or a TV show or something."

The poses were all received in equal amusement, Chance clapping along and giving little shouts of bravo with each one, or simply just giving a thumbs up of approval. When Dawson finally settled down, so did Chance, leaning against the opposite wall with his sketchpad in his lap and his pencil poised.

"Just an hour or so, probably less," he answered, already outlining the large figure in front of him. "Don't think too hard on it, tell me a story or something to distract yourself."

"What do you mean, what's my deal?" Chance asked, taking a swig of his own beer and giving Dawson a once over, wondering how many more it would take for him to pass out (which hopefully would not happen anytime soon). "You mean why I decided to come here?"

He gave a little shrug, the chill night air a nice brush against his skin. Unlike Dawson, he wasn't wearing a coat, just a light sweater imprinted with silver stars and a pair of jeans.

"I thought it would be worth my time," Chance answered with a smile. "And I was curious."

"Caf," he answered buoyantly. "Kinda been blowin' my money lately on food splurges, so I gotta wait 'til March rolls in. Maybe manage my s**t better..." The barked laugh he made afterwards wasn't a vote of confidence. "Think t'day's mashed taters n' somethin' else..."

"Y'know, like yerrrr...yeah that." Chance answered it. Yes good.

Dawson didn't remember where they had decided to sit down and draw, but his feet were automatically taking him to a bluff near the beach. Each step caused the runic flashlight at his belt to slap his thigh.

"S'it worth yer time?" he asked. "What'd ya woulda done if it weren', huh?"

He'd never what. After the beams and bows from such high praise, Dawson gave him an incredulous look. "Alright, uh...how the hell d'you not watch Winnie the Pooh?" he started off. "s**t, that was like every mornin' on Disney Channel for a while. God, they used ta have nice shows back then..."

Chance looked surprised for only a moment before he shrugged and fell into step alongside Dawson, hands shoved into his pockets. He nudged the other's side with one elbow, a little smile on his face.

"So what is it with you and food, hm?" he asked curiously. "Is it some sort of comfort thing?"

Chance kept giving the flashlight a curious look, because what were they going to do with the flashlight? It was nighttime, but it was relatively easy to see around them, which meant maybe they were going somewhere else that was darker, and that was kind of interesting.

(He did always like the beach.) Chance shrugged his shoulders.

"Not sure," he said thoughtfully. "Claude told me that I should have become an astronomer, but I'm not sure I'd like to be tied down. There's something to be said for being able to hunt monsters at will," he added, lightly teasing.

Dawson's look just received a questioning stare from Chance.

"Well, my childhood wasn't exactly the most childlike," he replied dryly, sketching out a line of the other's shoulder. "I spent most of my time attempting to steer clear of my mother's idiotic boyfriends, and we didn't have a television, so I haven't seen most movies."

He brightened a little, his hand pausing in its movements. "But I do like movies, and I think having a movie night here would be pretty cool."

Dawson blinked at the questions. "Er...I mean, I like food?" It was clear he wasn't understanding what Chance had asked as far as what it was with him and food, not having thought too deeply himself. "Ain' a good day 'til yer belly's full, y'know? Can't do a job right on an empty stomach s'all." He pat his for emphasis. "'Specially a big ol' one like mine, heh. I get hangry if I don' get fuel."

"'Stronomer like, uh....uhhhh...star chartin'?" Dawson asked, then made an accidentally leery looking grin and went on without waiting for an answer. "'Cause I could do it fer ya. Yeaaaah...Watch."

He traipsed onward to the bluff and plopped down without warning, nearly falling to the side with his abrupt landing. After clicking the flashlight on, he clutched it between his teeth and began to sketch what he saw above him.

That is, he started to stab the sketch page at random, each mark apparently meant to be a star. After a quarter of the page was almost filled, he dropped the flashlight in his lap and showed the "drawing" to Chance with pride.

"See? Boom, I did Pastronomying," Dawson boasted. "Tha' ain' hard at all, smartypants. No tyin' nuthin."

"How could ya not..." He didn't understand, he thought televisions were practically given out to every household at this point. Wait. Not the important point. Dawson fidgeted in place and then remembered he was being sketched.

"Uh. She had a string goin' r' somethin?" he asked, frowning slightly. No dad? "Just havin' trouble findin' the right fit?"

Dawson was a relatively simple man, Chance decided, but he liked that about him. There was something very open and friendly about him that was rather appealing, and the lack of dishonesty and shame made just put him that much higher in Chance's book.

"What's 'hangry' mean?" he asked curiously. "And tell me a bit about what kind of food you like best, what's your favorite and your least favorite?"

Chance laughed. "Yes, like star chartin,'" he said, trying to mimic the way Dawson had said it. "I - "

But he stopped talking because he was now watching the other man with a look of mingled curiosity and amusement. Chance took several steps closer and waited patiently for him to finish what he was doing; and then couldn't help but give a small snort of laughter as the paper was held up.

"Dawson Grace," Chance said grandly, reaching out and patting his shoulder affectionately. "I think I kind of like you. That is some ******** fantastic pastronomying."

Chance drew a few lines for Dawson's upper torso, decided they looked too stiff, and erased them again, brushing away the shavings with his pinky finger. He restarted, and was much more satisfied with the outcome this time, a satisfied look in his eyes.

"You could say that," he said with a laugh. "She was never really happy with anything, to be honest, and none of her exes were ever great. They were all just walking dicks that she got off on, it was pretty shitty."

He sounded strangely casual about it, Chance appearing perfectly at ease in spite of the semi-depressing conversation.

Dawson barked a laugh. Favorite food.

"Hangry's like...I dunno if ya get like this too, but like y'know people who get real testy if they ain't eaten yet? Tha's what happens t'me," he explained as he held the cafeteria door open for Chance. "Hungry n' angry: hangry! Think it has somethin' t'do with low blood pressure r' somethin'."

His memory served him well: they were serving country fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, bacon bits, alongside the usual vegetable options and portions of fruit. Dawson took a deep breath of the smells and sighed happily as they made their way in.

"I don' got a favorite, bruh," he said. "...Well, like, yeah I do, I just don' have specifics. I like breakfast stuff fer sure, uh, bacon's like top a'the list...ice cream's great...so's chocolate...uh, meat! I like steak! Rib eyes're real good...damn, now I want some..."
