Chel ducked under the swing of the staff in a wave motion, something she'd picked up from being pelted in the gut enough time by Finn's scythe. Of course Finn usually just turned the handle and got her with the blade anyways, but that was besides the point.

"You couldn't tell by the daggers? Ah s**t right you wouldn't know." Chel held up the hand with her bracelet and wiggled it a little. "I still got a weapon, but this s**t blocks me from usin' it. Tensy's a big a** bow. I'll show him to ya once I get this off."

She held up her daggers in defense both so she could talk a little while longer and so Gretchen would get a good look at them. "These are runics. They're the only thing givin' me a shield right now."

Well that was certainly something. Gretchen's eyes went a littleness as she took in the bracelet and what it did. "Can I ask why you have to wear it?" It came out hesitantly, unsure, as if she weren't sure she should be asking at all. "Or is it like, confidential?" Because if that were the case, Gretchen total didn't need to know.

Chelsea slipped into the defensive, and Gretchen moved in to send a hard jab at the other girls torso.

Devils have a delighted, hissing laugh as she drank down the fear.

(There issss a charge ready. Use it.)

"Nah s'not confidential," Chel said casually. "Made a deal with the wrong side, body was possessed, attacked a hunter yada yada yada now they got me on surveillance makin' sure I don't ******** up again."

She paused to debate whether or not she should scare a trainee with the information, but she figured it was better that Gretchen know than be left in the dark. "S'a bomb. Rigged to explode."

She noticed Gretchen's weapon glowing slightly more than the usual soft glow runes gave off. "Aight, let me have it~"

Honey brown eyes widened at the explanation, and her gaze dipped from the girl herself to the band on her wrist, though she took an involuntary step back at the mention of bomb. "That's.." She closed her mouth, not at all sure what to say for a moment, then looked up again. "That kind of sucks."

It didn't seem as though Chel was all that bothered by it though, which helped Gretchen to shrug it off as well, mostly. The bracelet was given a second wary look as she brought her staff up again, but the Sun was egging her own. Obviously if a hit from a weapon could make it explode Chel wouldn't be sparring.

She hoped so, at least.

All the same, she'd avoid aiming for that wrist...

(Child, enough sssstalling.)

Gretchen flinched, but she tightened her grip on the staff, giving Devika an internal green light. Some sort of insight into a powerful attack was expected, but what she got was a brief chill across her skin and the sensation of dissipating Fear. It didn't seem to have had any effect...

"Oh s**t..."

(You lack dissscipline .) A sheepish expression crossed the Death's face, and she brought her shoulders up in a useless shrug. "Sorry, didn't work."

Chel was neither surprised nor nonplussed with Gretchen's response to her story. She was just glad there were no questions. She was happier to have Gretchen's thoughts contained in her head rather than having to detail the story further.

She braced herself for the incoming hit, but watched the familiar fizzle of a failed charge. "Ah, bummer. No worries though man. Happens to everyone, even people who been here for years. Sometimes it just don't work." She held up the daggers and wiggled, "Mine don't get a buzz so count yerself lucky."

After the failed charge, Chel went back on the offensive. She'd give Gretchen a chance, at least.

If Chel had wanted her to know more, she'd have told her! It was the sort of issue that Gretchen just didn't feel comfortable prying into, the sort she was very familiar with on a personal level. Her leg might not have been a big deal anymore, but once upon a time it had been, and she'd hated talking about it.

The disappointed expression lingered even after Chel's reassurances, though that might have had more to do with Devika's disapproving hiss in her head, rather then any personal shame in the matter. On a personal level Gretchen knew mistakes were just a part of life, but she didn't particularly enjoy her partner's constant nagging, so she strove for improvement if for no other reason than to quiet that impatient voice.

She did turn a curious glance on the daggers at the news that they couldn't hold a charge, but again, she didn't ask. "Lucky me, then, huh?"

Well, sort of. Chel was on the offensive again, and thugh Gretchen attempted to get hr staff between them the daggers still managed to connect. On the plus side, she managed to get the end up quick enough to knock the other girl in the shoulder before she could retreat out of range again.

Gretchen had gotten her taste of offense and now Chel wanted to end it quickly. It was apparently in the pick up in speed of her attacks that she meant business now.

"Talkin' yer ear off," Chel teased, "Tell me what ya think 'bout the people here.."

Seemed as though Chel was ready to get serious. The taller girl rushed in, pulling a startled little yip from the newbie as she did, as well as a hiss as the daggers bit into what was left of her shield.

"Ah." She turned, trying to put her staff between them like some barrier. "I haven't met that many yet. Small handful is all, and the guy that was there when I woke up turned out to be a real a**, so.." She laughed, but there was a faint edge to it. "Most folks seem pretty nice though, if twitter's anything to go by."

A swing, and the end of the staff grazed the other girl's arm.

Chel snorted, wondering how Gretchen had deduced that people were friendly from the d**k-riddled flurry of insults that flew around twitter.

She didn't have time to respond though, as she noticed an opening. Albeit somewhat of a d**k move, Chel saw Gretchens leg was staunchly planted, and a well placed foot with a lot of weight coming down on it, she snapped it the opposite direction.

Although she'd wanted to unbalance the girl, she hadn't actually expected the thing to snap. It left Chel blinking owlishly and immediately releasing a flurry of apologies.

A bullet proof optimism and enduring faith in humanity is how she had deduced nice from the awful s**t storm that was twitter. She was still new, eventually the shininess would wear off, but until it did the girl was a radiant spot of brightness among an island of sarcastic cynics.

To say that Gretchen was startled as that final blow to her false leg resulted in one of the joint bolts snapping like a dry branch would have been an understatement, or epic proportions. She heard it break, and there was an instance of slowed down time as she blinked down, watched the head of a bolt ping off into the grass, then the whole thing came apart, spilling the Death into an undignified heap.

Another small moment of stunned silence, then Chel was apologizing furiously and Gretchen was staring down at the post of her leg and the point where it connected with the base. "s**t son." Years of wear and tear and there had been not so much as a squeak of protest from the thing, but one hard hit from Chels and it had snapped. "That's power."

She didn't sound mad, at least. Still too startled, it hadn't really sank in yet that her leg was broken. Just the fact that it could be was quite a thing, and she was having trouble wrapping her head around it.

Chel immediately discarded her daggers, sagging over Gretchen's leg both with the desire to pick up the parts and cram the backtogether, and the desire to not touch anything lest she cause more destruction.

What resulted was an odd sort of hovering, afraid to touch anything like it was glass. "What- what do I do?" she said breathily, not worried about Gretchen's non-existent anger, but instead the worry that she'd broken it for good.

Gretchen was pulling the ruined bolt out of the post, eyes a little wide as she looked at the neat snap. "Uh, do you think there's a mechanic on this island?" Her gaze lifted to Chel. "Or maybe just a maintenance guy? Someone that has tools and spare nuts n' bolts n' s**t?" Gretch hadn't seen anyone like that, but she was also pretty new still. Chel had been ehre long, so if anyone knew it'd be her, right?

She probably should have been more worried than she appeared. At the moment she literally couldn't walk, and she didn't have any crutches either. The infirmary probably had some, but having to resort to getting around that was was really not ideal.

"Er ... Not that I know of," Chel said quickly. She was a sun; she spent more time off on missions or curled around other duties, not bumbling around with mechanics or runics. "You could try the infirmary? They might have somethin'." In terms of reparations, moon might have actually been better for parts.

She hesitated and said, "Let me at least walk y'over to sit on the hay or somethin', 'kay?"
