"Oh," Albert said, then gave a visible sigh of relief as he relaxed in his seat. "Thank goodness. I'd rather not have to deal with more grays than I already get from dealing with my daughter on a regular basis." He shook his head, then and managed a smile. "Thank you for your honesty - and your laughter. It's enough to lift a man's spirits on an otherwise very lonely holiday."

Kaida gave him a smile in return, a bright thing not hampered by her normal reserve. "It's no problem. It's...nice to have company today. Especially when everyone else I know is off doing things." She sighed in relief, seeming to sink into the couch a bit. "I don't think I could have found better company, either."
"On the contrary, my dear," Albert said, and took a longer sip of his coffee now that it was significantly cooler than when he had first gotten it. "There is better company to be found on this day, because I've found it in you."
The smile he offered her this time was all charm, but with a genuine air about it that didn't always show up in such an expression.
