All in all it was for the best that Scout did not voice her concern over Abbi's speculatively hollow praise, mostly because the latter teen would gladly argue with the former woman. That would have been quite counter productive to their meeting today, however much Abbi might have been more than happy to prove her point. She was awfully stubborn about that sort of thing.

When she elicited more of a response from the physical demonstration rather than the praise, Abbi filed it away into her mind and grinned up at Scout.
A bit in her natural habitat, the teen spoke at length about FEAR shields and how they operated, mostly focusing on the bare basics of how they worked and expounding on their application, parameters of use, and recharge abilities. Though she hadn't practiced the speech, relaying information came naturally to Abbi and she didn't seem uncomfortable going on and on about them.
All the while she spoke she worked the knife blade against that iridescent shimmer above her wrist until toward the end of her speech the shield shattered.
"Finally! Thought that was gonna take all day, sheesh." While she let all the information she's just given sink in, she set about examining her wrist.

Scout listened closely, the same way she did when her mom told her how to use the jack on a tire for the first time, or the way certain wires connected to one another (don't touch that one unless you got the car off hon). Scout absorbed slowly; she was never really the brightest, but she listened and didn't say a word while Abbi talked. She found silence more comfortable, more understandable.

There was no real signal that Abbi's shield had broken (after all, they were invisible things made of FEAR- see she was learning!), so Scout gave Abbi a quizzical look. "The explanation ...?"

"Oh! Sorry!" Whereas Scout preferred silence, Abbi sometimes forgot when she was being quiet and what she was saying wasn't just in her head. It was something her ghost hadn't ever bothered to correct her on, and something the teen hadn't ever thought it a bad enough habit to curb.
The blade flashed around in the air as Abbi spoke next, glittering in the sterile light.
"I broke my shield. It'll repair in a few hours, and normally a broken shield isn't something to play with, but I'll be here for the next little bit and I'll just avoid the training fields until its back." That wasn't the full explanation, but for the next few seconds Abbi went very, very quiet and still.

She was clearly concentrating on something, her eyes blinking rapidly, but otherwise she was silent. When a few good beats had passed she sat up, almost as though she were happily jumping out of a trance, and grinned at Scout.
"Had to talk to Vivi real quick, but look!" Failing to mention who Vivi was in lieu of demonstration, the held out her arm and raked the blade over the skin near her elbow.
"Vivi's my weapon, I had to make sure she understood what I was doing." And that was namely not letting the teen bleed very much before the scratch formed over, pink and scarred, but no longer open.

"I see," Scout replied with a slight smile. Abbi was clearly putting all of her effort into teaching (going so far as to hurt herself!) and she was beginning to understand. Both were good things in her book.

She couldn't help but look a little shocked (probably Abbi's intention anyways). People didn't just heal themselves instantly.

Afterwards she could barely stutter out, "V-Vivi is a lovely name ... wow ..."

All grins and little wiggles to see her teachings had garnered the proper response, Abbi folded back up the knife (though she did wipe it down first since first aid was equal parts knowledge and cleanliness!) and tucked it back down the front of her shirt. What little blood had leaked out was also wiped up off her arm and the cotton pad tossed away.

"Aw thanks! Her name is Viveca, but she lets me call her Vivi. She was a ghost! Kind of like a will'o'wisp type thing, she's really cool. Sometimes she yells a lot, like right now, but its ok cause we're partners and she never lets me down!" Clearly very proud of her weapon Abbi beamed at Scout, verging on giddy with how well this all was going.
"What's your weapon like?" That was totally an ok question to ask not at all related to first aid but Abbi had at least picked back up her clipboard and was scribbling something on the page.

Scout was just a touch overwhelmed by the whole thing. Actually that was an understatement, she was very freaked out. Yes they had given her an orientation and she knew the basics, but listening to a full hunter drone on about and actually seeing skin sew itself up were two completely different things.

The nervousness knit into her voice and she twined her fingers together. "Her name is Rigor Mortis ..." she said quietly. Such a silly name.

"I ... believe it is a girl? I'm not sure ... it just sort of makes noises sometimes." For the most part, useless.
