Calvin readied himself, glad that his opponent was so worthy. Doing as instructed, he went to the other side of the arena, and then faced her. Calvin then pointed Ryujin forward...to which the Pokémon gave a nod to him, seemingly ready to jump into battle. He was really hoping that the Pokémon could win the first round...because one he won the first round, then he believed it to be smooth sailing. Sure, the trainer had an even stronger Pokémon waiting, but he had heard that she hadn't had very many Pokémon. That meant two or three and really, if he could get six vs two, that would be ideal. Six versus one would be even more ideal.
Ryujin stepped forward, the Pokémon going into a fighting stance, ready to take on its first opponent.

Roxanne looked over her silent challenger. He appeared to be not one for words, or perhaps he was mute, but Roxanne wasn't one to judge either way. A challenger was a challenger after all. Roxanne's gaze turned to the pokemon that stepped forward, however it was not any sort of pokemon she was familiar with, and Roxanne prided herself on knowing every single one of them. This one looked a lot like a Gallade, but.... It was much different than any Gallade she had seen before. "Prepare yourself Geodude, try to crush it hard and fast with Rock Throw!" Roxanne insisted, the small rock pokemon taking advantage of the gym's terrain and hurling several stones at the strange pokemon.

Calvin watched intently as the rock smash had hit with ferocity, but his Pokémon shrugged it off and had already got back in its fighting stance, ready to deal a huge amount of damage on geodude. Despite the fact that it was a dragon and a psychic type, Ryujin knew a move that had a good amount of power behind it and was one that was very strong against the rock type Geodude...so why not lead off with it.
"Ryujin, rush at geodude as fast as you can, jump high, and come from above. Use leafblade!" he watched as his Pokémon jumped high into the air and came down on the Geodude with an extremely powerful strike that clearly did a lot of damage. He did notice the how much the Pokémon had gotten slower from the last hit, but it still was able to get its move off.

Also did you see my note on your Gallade's ability? It doesn't appear to be anywhere in your post layout x3 Do you think you could add it please? And speaking of abilities, Geodude's is Sturdy, which means it would currently have 1HP left instead of being knocked out by that Leaf Blade. >w< I'm sorry, I just realized that we forgot to update the ability description for this Geodude from PHL... That's my bad (the accurate description was in the Battle mechanics I swear! D: ) But the mechanic for Sturdy in the guild works just like it does in the games.
Leader Roxanne
Okay, not a mute, just quiet most of the time except when commanding his pokemon. Roxanne could deal with that. She didn't like too many distractions in battle anyways. Roxanne blinked in surprise however as the Gallade-esque pokemon was commanded to use Leaf Blade, jumping high into the air with it's burning bladed arms glowing a bright green. "B-Brace yourself Geodude!!!" Roxanne called, losing her cool for a moment as her voice stammered the command. The rock and ground type was certainly no match for a powerful grass move like a Leaf Blade, however, as the attack connected, Geodude's body glowed as well, absorbing some of the damage from the attack, just enough to keep it conscious. "Ha! You won't take us out that easily! Geodude, quick! Counter with another Rock Throw!" Geodude wouldn't be able to last another round at this rate, but she could still possibly take it out here and now with this one last attack!

Calvin gritted his teeth a bit when he watched the Geodude's ability start to take place. He had forgotten about Geodude's ability and instantly figured what it had done. It saved it...that's what. If it hadn't had it, it would have fainted. But, he would take this as a learning experience and treat some Pokémon a little differently when battling them. But, at least, as long as he could get a quick shot of on the geodude, as long as it hit, he was sure this Geodude would be gone. And besides, his most powerful Pokémon hadn't even seen the field, nor was it going to just yet. And to assure that his Pokémon would be able to get a shot off first before it got hit with another nasty rock type attack.
Going over to Ryujin, he returned it to its ball to rest. Despite the fact that it never went into it, while it was fainted was a different story. He looked at the ball. "You did good Ryujin," he said to the ball, not knowing if it heard him or not. "Alright, Maverick, let's go." He threw the ball out and the strong bird Pokémon was revealed. It took to higher elevation, being unaffected by any ground type attacks that Calvin thought Geodude could be capable. "Alright, Maverick, use Quick Attack," he said aloud, watching as his pokémon showed that twice the speed of the speed of sound capability in flying, the Pokémon crashing down on Geodude. The attack itself would normally not do much, but the Pokémon was just about fainted. And within a second, Maverick was crashing into Geodude...hard, and fast. There we go, he thought to himself.

I left this one sort of open ended in the post, since I'm not sure if you wanted to get in another quick attack or not, but either way Roxanne's next move is Rock Tomb and I can edit in a Quick Attack in the next post if you choose to use it~

The Gallade was down, and Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief. That leaf blade was dangerous business for her Rock types, so it was nice to know that she had one less threat. Geodude wouldn't last much longer at this rate, but when her opponent let out a flying type, Roxanne couldn't help but give Calvin a somewhat skeptical look. A flying type against rock types? What was he doing?
Well Roxanne soon got her answer as the Pidgeot harnessed it's speed to deal out a quick ineffective blow to finish her Geodude off. Roxanne frowned. "Return Geodude, you did great." She commended her pokemon. "Nice move there, but I'm not done yet, and you're still at a type disadvantage! Nosepass, let's bury this bird with a nice solid Rock Tomb!!!" Roxanne ordered, sending out her next pokemon into battle.

Calvin watched as the Geodude went down. One would think Calvin would say something, but his expression stayed emotionless and he didn't say a word. Why? Because the next Pokémon was about to come out and he was sure it was one that could do a hurting on Maverick. He would hate for Maverick to believe that it was a throw away Pokémon; so Calvin would make sure he got a hit on this Pokémon.
When the Pokémon had come out of its ball, he identified it using his Pokédex. He was afraid that this would happen. But, he knew exactly what to do. If he got another Quick attack off so his next Pokémon would have an easier time. Calvin gave a nod to his Pidgeot, to which it looked back at him and nodded. "Alright, Maverick, use Quick Attack!" he said aloud, watching the Pokémon gain the same speed that it had before. It crashed into Nosepass quickly...the Pokémon taking some damage, but he knew it wasn't very effective.
Soon enough, Maverick was down because of a devastating rock tomb. He called the Pokémon back and whispered to it. "Good job Maverick. We'll continue to grow and make sure this does not happen again. he said to it quietly, hoping he was heard. He then looked to his Pokéballs. He instantly looked at Ryoko the Salamence, but he shook his head. "No, not yet. She's a flying type and if that Nosepass somehow gets a shot off before he could use earthquake, then he wasn't sure if his Pokémon could survive it. But...why not try to paralyze Nosepass, to ensure that it didn't go first. No, he had to take the chance, because his Fire types won't do much against this; so he took the chance and sent out Ryoko.
"Ryoko, let's finish this," he said, throwing out the Pokémon. The dragon entered the field with a roar, Ryoko staring down its opponent, giving off the desire that it would want to kill it. Ryoko got itself ready when it saw the Nosepass, mainly because it seemed to know what Calvin was going to say before he even said anything. "Ryoko, finish this off with Earthquake!" he said, aloud, glad to see that his Pokémon already had its legs lifted high in the air, standing on its backs legs. It crashed its front two legs to the ground, sending shockwaves through the rock field that Roxanne had set up. This was his only chance, because his next two Pokémon were fire types and weak against the dreaded rocktomb, not to mention Lucia wasn't high level; so he didn't believe it could quite defeat the Nosepass with only tackle. He did firmly believe that this would end nosepass and the battle.

Heehee Sturdy makes these first gyms more of a challenge, especially since everyone always comes in with such strong pokemon >w>;;

Leader Roxanne
Even though the Pidgeot gave a solid effort in landing another Quick Attack on her Nosepass, it was still no match for a Rock Tomb, and went down handily. Calvin took the defeat rather well though, and that put Roxanne on edge as the mysterious figure seemed to debate what to do next, before eventually sending out a rather intimidating Salamence he called Ryoko. Before Roxanne could call out a move, the Salamence reared back and slammed its front legs into the ground, causing Roxanne's whole gym to shake violently. The girl flinched and ducked for cover just in case anything fell, but slowly peeked out again once the coast seemed clear. She was fine, however the supper effective attack had rendered her Nosepass unable to battle any further.
Roxanne was stunned, to say the least, wordlessly returning her pokemon. "I see.... It appears I still have a lot to learn...." She mumbled lightly, turning and retrieving a few things from a shelf before crossing the battleground to meet with Calvin. "I still don't know you're name, but whoever you are, you have more than earned this Stone Badge with your strength and the bond you share your pokemon." Roxanne handed over the badge and gave a light bow. "I may have lost, but in losing, we learn much more than when we win, so I am still very pleased with this outcome. Please continue on your journey with the same rock hard tenacity you displayed to me today, and please, also accept these gifts as a token of my gratitude." She pulled out two disks, one containing the TM for earthquake, the other, the HM for Cut.

Once at the city's edge, Cameron hesitated a moment. He looked a little pale, but just shook his head and hurried in. The teen's trio of Pokemon were starting to get a bit concerned about their trainer, but didn't voice any opinions on the matter. Instead, they just followed the black-haired male into the city. It wasn't like he'd be able to understand what any of them said anyway, so the trio figured they might as well see if he'd offer an explanation on his own. It just seemed odd that he'd switch so easily from confident to timid by doing something as small as entering a city.

Calvin stood still as the earthquake took into effect, staring at the opposite Pokémon to see exactly if it fell to the ground fainted or not, because if it didn't, he would instantly send off another attack with Ryoko, but as the shaking ceased, he watched as the Nosepass fell to the ground, fainting almost instantly. The shot was tenacious and powerful and Calvin was almost surprised that it completely one shotted the higher level Pokémon.
Ryoko let out a roar as the Pokémon had fell to the ground, seemingly happy that it took down its opponent with pure, raw power. Calvin was by all means proud of his Pokémon. Finally, he called the Pokémon back, looking at the ball and speaking silently. "Great job Ryoko," he said to it, a small smile forming on his scarred face.
When Roxanne had made it over to him with his badge in hand, Calvin tried his hardest not to smile...mainly because it hurt so much to do it. When the woman started talking, he did make it a point to introduce himself. "My name is Calvin Knight of Foretree City and I usually go by Knight. I'm sorry I can't say much, but my scarring prevents me from doing so," he said a little quietly to prevent his mouth from having to move wider ranges. Taking the badge in hand, he looked it over for a brief few moments before putting it into his case, as well as the TM and HM that she had given him. "I will keep soldiering on, and It was truly a pleasure battling such a worthy adversary, but now I must go, for I must get back to Petalburg by nightfall. Thank you for presenting me with these gifts," he admitted to the woman...to whom he gave a soft shake to the hand and turned to depart, hoping to leave an everlasting impression on everyone he met. He also hoped she didn't take offense to his rather silent attitude either.
Departing the gym, he looked around, trying to figure out if he had to do anything in the city before going back to Petalburg. He did go treat his Pokémon at the Pokémon center however, his Gallade forcing its way out of its ball again and standing beside him.

The main building for Devon Corporation was not difficult to find at all. It was up in the northwest section of the city with only its factories to keep it company, not to mention it was easily the tallest building within the city. Indeed, Cameron even managed to avoid getting turned around as he made his way to the building, plus he had his Pokemon to help him out when he was starting to go the wrong way. Having a pair of Pokemon that could keep an eye out from above was rather useful, although Mezzo looked like she had a hard time keeping up with Legato. Probably because she was only a fairy instead of an actual flying type like the Wingull was.
Eventually, the black-haired male reached the building he was looking for. Standing outside was a man wearing a lab coat that looked like he was waiting for someone. The other man perked up a moment as he saw the teen approach, mostly because he caught sight of the egg."Excuse me!"he called out to get the teen's attention, then jogged over to the young man."Your name wouldn't happen to be Cameron, would it?"The man sounded rushed as he spoke, as if he was in a great hurry.
Cameron gave the man a nod and was soon met with a relieved look."Excellent! Oh, and that must be the egg. Perfect!"As he spoke, the man pulled a card in a clear plastic sleeve with a metal clip out of his pocket and clipped it onto one of the pockets of the vest Cameron wore."Now, you'll need this pass so that you'll be let onto the second floor,"he quickly explained, then smiled cheerfully when he saw a doubtful look cross the young man's face."Oh, not to worry! It'll just be easier to give you your reward if you come up with me. You didn't think I'd let you go without giving you something for your trouble, did you?"
"I-I'm not su- Woah! Hey!"Cameron's attempt at voicing his doubt was quickly cut short due to the researcher putting an arm across his back to lead him in. The action almost knocked him off balance with how overburdened he already was from just the amount of berry pots he had, not to mention the other items in his bag, and Cameron ended up having to walk the way the other man wanted in order to keep from falling over. This did not please the teen at all, but he didn't argue against it. He just tried to pause long enough to let his trio of Pokemon follow him into the building instead of having to deal with the doors sliding shut in their faces.
The teen didn't get too much of an opportunity to take in the sight of the first floor before being led to the stairs."My station is right up here. Come on! We need to get that egg looked at quickly!"the man pushing and pulling Cameron along said excitedly as he hurried to the stairs. The duo had to stop for a moment as the man at the stairwell examined the visitor badge that Cameron had been given moments before, but soon enough the teen was back to being shoved in the direction he needed to go. Unfortunately, this was now up a set of stairs, and more than once he stumbled due to being overburdened. Not saying anything about the researcher's overabundance of enthusiasm.
Once at the second floor, the researcher led the teen with the egg down the hall for a while. He pushed the black-haired male past several stations where researchers were working on various projects before bringing the male to his own station. On the table was a computer along with an odd-looking device. A base and top part were held together with a section of a cylinder, and connected to that piece were a couple of metal arms with dishes attached to them. Wires could be seen in various areas, including a set that connected the device to the computer."Here we are. Let me just get things a bit more set up..."Finally letting go of Cameron, the man checked some sort of program on the computer and placed a small cushion on the base of the strange device.
After a couple more checks, the researcher turned back to Cameron and motioned towards the cushion he had set down."Now then, if you'd please place the egg there, we can get started. Oh, and don't worry. I can assure you that the Pokemon inside that egg won't feel anything bad from this. Even psychic Pokemon only feel what amounts to a mental tickle."Cameron wasn't entirely sure about the assurances the researcher gave him, but that didn't keep him from lightly placing the egg on the little pillow. Once the egg was safely placed in the device, the teen stepped back and let the metal arms swing around so that they and the dishes on the ends of them bordered the egg.
"Thank you. Now then, just a little bit here... And..."As the researcher muttered, a quiet hum could be heard from the device and some readings popped up on the screen. For some time the man simply watched and nodded, but after a certain point he blinked and leaned in closer to the monitor."Strange... I thought for sure... Then again..."The man's mutterings continued as he watched the monitor. Once the scan started to reach its completion, the researcher leaned back in the chair at his desk and covered the lower-half of his face with his right hand, rubbing his left cheek with his fingers.
Once the scan finished, the researcher had the findings from the machine saved and printed out in case of any unfortunate hard drive crashes. He then looked to Cameron and gave a light smile."Well, that wasn't quite what I expected, but it certainly did give me some... Interesting data..."he started, then grinned quite largely."Anyway, I said I would give you a reward, and a reward you shall get. If you'd just come with me to visit one of my associates, we'll get that straightened out."As he spoke, the researcher guided Cameron through the area to a different workstation, leaving the egg in the device for the time being. He had an idea of what he wanted to do about that, but he had seen how much trouble the teen had with just getting up the stairs. He'd need to fix that little problem and, seeing how easily the male was taken off balance by the bit of weight he had in his pack, had a good idea of how to fix that.
A man working at a computer with a few small program chips nearby looked over as he noticed the duo approach him."Ah, Evan. How goes the scanner?"the man asked and received a pained smile from the researcher."It goes... It goes..."Evan sighed after speaking, then pursed his lips before talking again."Got an odd reading from this last egg, though... Anyway, I remembered that you still needed someone to help test out that item storage upgrade you're working on. As you can see, this poor guy has a bit of a weight problem, and I figured it'd be a good thing for both of you for him to be signed up for the latest version,"he explained, smiling a bit as the other researcher seemed to consider the idea.
It didn't take long for the other man to smile and nod before grabbing one of the program chips."Sure. At least I'll get some data from this one. Not like those leaked copies of earlier versions of the code."The man then held his hand out towards Cameron."I just need to see your Pokedex for a moment."He gave the teen a small smile as the black-haired male handed him the device, then fiddled with it to get a section of the case open. He then inserted the chip into a section of the device, closed it back up, checked to make sure everything still worked, and handed the device back to Cameron."There we go. Now you'll be able to access your item storage system from anywhere. Assuming you can get a signal, of course."
Cameron chuckled a bit at the bit of advice concerning where to use the new addition to his dex and gave a nervous smile as he took back his device."R-right. Um, well, thanks. I... Well, I wasn't really expecting anything,"he said, just in time to hear a few beeps from his Pokenav. The two researchers recognized what that beep was probably for and chuckled a bit."You can use that area of the desk there to check on your berries if you'd like,"the man who updated Cameron's dex offered, earning a sheepish smile and a nod from the teen before he struggled to get off his bag and pulled out the pots. Meanwhile, Evan went back over to his work station and grabbed the egg from his device, having figured out how he wanted to deal with the anomalous readings he got from the egg.
It didn't take long for Cameron to harvest a decent crop from the three plants that had finished growing. A few of the berries weren't quite usable for battles or Pokeblocks, but they were at least good for snacks. The black-haired teen let Allegro, Mezzo, and Legato munch on the imperfect berries as he tucked away the crop and tried out the item storage function added to his dex to lighten his load a bit. He sent away most of his Pokeballs and Potions, all but two of his changes of clothes, and the two berry pots that still had crops growing in them. He was getting ready to work on sending the other three away when Evan returned with the odd Surskit egg."Um... D-did you need something else, Evan?"the teen cautiously asked as he noticed the man come over.
Evan nodded, then lightly set the egg on the table while keeping a hand on it so it didn't roll anywhere by mistake."Yes. See, that scanner is supposed to determine if a Pokemon will have its ordinary coloration or an alternate one before it hatches. Most of the ones scanned have been ordinary, but I had previously encountered a few Surskit eggs that had identical results to one another but were different from the majority. This egg, though, matches neither of those results. I'm not sure why that would be, but that Spritzee following you around gives me an idea."At this, Evan pointed at Mezzo, who had been flying around her trainer for a while.
Evan took a moment to take a deep breath, then began speaking again."Regardless, in order to test my hypothesis, I need this egg to hatch. Unfortunately, a lab is not the best place for a Pokemon egg. They need to be around Pokemon with an active lifestyle,"he explained, then smiled at Cameron."That's why I'd like you to hold onto this egg for a while longer. Once it hatches, I'd appreciate it if you'd at least send me a report on what it looks like, although bringing it in for me to see with my own eyes would be best. Of course, since you're the one hatching it, you can keep the Pokemon as part of your team. I know that Surskit tend to be hard to find, and if I am right, that one will be particularly unique."

Cameron considered the request as he planted a few berries in the now-empty pots. After closing them up and sending them into storage with the others, he gave the researcher a smile and a nod."Um, s-sure. I don't see a reason not to,"he replied, then gave a nervous chuckle as the researcher grinned."Great! I'll just get you something to help with carrying that egg, and then I'll let you go on your way."The man quickly moved back to his work station and returned soon after with a case that looked to consist of a glass cylinder with a metal base and cap, along with a soft pillow sitting on the base. On the top of the cap was a section where some sort of sphere could sit.
After reaching the table, Evan sat the case on it and carefully lifted off the cap and the glass cylinder it was attached to so that he could set them aside for a moment."Right then. The egg goes in here..."As he spoke, the man gently placed the egg onto the pillow. He then carefully replaced the glass cylinder, having to lightly poke the egg to turn it a bit so that it didn't bump against the glass."And then you put whatever ball you want in this slot here,"he finished, tapping the slot on the top of the cap that covered the cylinder. Cameron nodded a bit and pulled out one of the Premier Balls he had before setting it into the indicated section of the case.
With the egg now safely within the case, Cameron carefully tucked the setup into his pack that now had far more room in it than before. It was certainly a lot easier than trying to carry the bare egg everywhere."That should be everything. I'm sure you can find your way down from here. And hang on to that card I gave you, alright?"Evan chuckled a bit as he got a nod from the teen, then went back to his work station. Cameron, for his part, seemed do be done with the area, so he gave a short wave to the two researchers and made his way out of the building. Like Evan had implied, it wasn't difficult for the black-haired male to find his way back to the stairs, and soon enough he and his trio of Pokemon were out of the building.
Finally back outside, Cameron looked around a moment before letting Allegro back onto his shoulder."Looks like we're done here for the time being. Let's get back to Oldale for some training,"the teen suggested, earning syllables of agreement from his trio of Pokemon. It looked like it was starting to get late, but the young man wasn't very keen on staying within the city any longer than he had to. Thankfully, it didn't take too long to get through the area, and soon enough the little group was out of the city and on their way to the woods.
