Kuma coughed out water that he had inhaled. The water was shockingly cold. The river flowed downwards from the mountains and still held with it that memory of snow. He could already feel his legs growing wooden, but he forced himself to keep moving.
He looked over his shoulder behind himself and immediately regretted it. The two monsters were still chasing him. One floundered around in the water while the second flew overhead. It was the second that worried him the most. He suddenly had a vision of being attacked from above. What could he possibly do to defend himself while trying to keep himself afloat?

Swimming grew no easier. With each stroke, his armor felt like it grew heavier. The Other struggled against the weight but very quickly realized that he couldn't keep himself afloat for long. With a gurgling snarl, he changed course. He pushed himself towards the shallows, leaving aside his pursuit. His brother whistled overhead, flying after the unicorn. Good. Maybe White Walker could prove useful for once and get them their berries.
The Other felt his hooves touch ground and felt a small bubble of relief. He'd made it to the bank. He pulled himself ashore, bedraggled and thwarted. None of this was going according to plan.

White Walker sneered. There went his brother, crawling ashore like a drowned rat! He held himself to higher standards. He was going to catch the unicorn, kill him, and recover their precious berries.
With a few powerful strokes of his wings, he brought himself above the unicorn. His shadow fell upon the swimmer and he followed closely after. He dove down and swiped with his tail. Though he had thought his aim was good, he missed entirely. Some trick of the light glinting off the water was disorienting him and throwing off his aim. What was even more irritating was that the unicorn seemed to barely even acknowledge his attempt. The creature just doggedly continued swimming forward. White Walker scowled. His next attempt wouldn't fail!
