Keeping close was Peyton's only option if she wanted to inflict any damage on the ranged hunter, but there was always that risk of taking a shot point blank. The grazing hits and the ones taken at a distance weren't as back, but straight from the muzzle they ******** hurt. She jerked to the side as his shot hissed against her shield, but kept pursuing, keeping that distance short and easy to close. "Will you be using these skills for good or evil?" It was a joke, mostly, but anyone that chose to hang around with Jack, with a few notable exceptions, were a little on a douchy side themselves. Herself included. With a sharp little smile she zipped in, assaulting his side in a flurry of quick slashes that had Warrick rolling delightedly through her mind as he drank in the other hunter's Fear shield. "Oh, let's not use such black and white terms." Lex smirked, pulling back from Peyton after she delivered her latest slash. He could feel the shield draining from him, and Regal was more than upset.
< You can't just sit by and chat like this. I am more than a plaything - use me. >
Lex had to agree, obliging the gryphon by hunkering down close to the grass. Golden down grew on his shoulders and hair, sparkling gently with its own light and fluttering off the man as he stood, looking visibly refreshed.
"Who can say if what I do is good or evil - some might say making people relive traumas and face them directly is evil, some might call me a saint for freeing the mind of haunts and blockades." He shrugged, taking up a defensive stance.
< Let her come. >
"What would your opinion be?"

"Huh..." She grinned, half chuckling. "Phoenix down?" He looked visibly refreshed, and she could have sworn she'd seen feathers. The Sun wasn't a fan of healing charges in spars, for obvious reasons, but even she had to admit that one was kind of neat. Like Horace and his purple lightning, and America and her blazing fire. Her head tilted at his question, and one thin shoulder rolled in a shrug. "I think it's all rather subjective, if I'm being honest. Hard to say what will and won't actually help a person." People responded to things differently. What worked for one might not work for another. There was a small, thoughtful pause as she considered her response, but Warrick pulled her back to the present with a certain amount of restless urgency. Wordlessly she acknowledged, accepted, and the red runes on the blades of her daggers flared brightly as the collected Fear was pushed back into that tiny little body and she shot forward in a blonde and pink blur to deliver a flurry of quick, painfully jabs and slices. Too kick to block, too numerous to dodge or escape from. HP: 42 DMG: 25 CHG:0/3

Phoenix down? Lex gave Peyton a quirked brow and a curled lip, indicating he had zero idea what in the Sam hell she was talking about. Maybe one of those video game references Abbi and Solia were always spewing.
The quizzical look was quickly erased and scribbled over by pain and mild panic, arms up to cover his face - an instinct from both bar fights and fighting monsters. Her assault was formidable, knocking him back and into a daze. When she finally stopped, Lex felt even weaker than before he'd healed. "Good one." He breathed as he stabilized himself against a rock.
< You're going to embarrass us. >
"But yes, that's the point of a psychiatrist my dear; to find a patient's means to achieving a balanced mind." He gave a smirk, firing a few shots at the thin girl, altogether now uncommitted to the actual fighting. "I think I've figure your means out, now that I've gathered first hand evidence and paired it with Mr. Hawthorn's data."
Lex smiled, leaving it at that.HP: 8 DMG: 7 CHG: 1/3

She was too close to dodge the shots, and had to resort to blocking the worst of it with her arms. It didn't do much for her shield, but it kept her from taking a bullet to the face. Wincing, she dropped her arms so she could shoot him a curious look at that comment, and that smile was way too familiar, made her just a little uneasy. "Oh? Care to enlighten me?" Probably not. So far Lex seemed to be more cryptic than their mutual friend Mr. Hawthorn. Darting in, she took a swipe at him, but her curiosity was distracting. The blade of her dagger whizzed by harmlessly. "Would I?" Lex chuckled, firing at Peyton's side in the point blank range she'd given him. The round of light struck her shield hard. "I could do just that, give you the answers and not let you work it out yourself. What would that help, though?"
At that point Lex dropped most of his defenses, keen on making a monologue. He knew how pompous he seemed at that moment, the air of arrogance he carried and the lordly tones he refused to strip from his voice. He wanted to seem that way, to continue to press on the girl's unease. It was the only form of power he had over anyone on this damned island.
His smile never changed, fake benevolence and certain pleasure. "No, you must work out your diagnosis yourself." Then, as an afterthought, "Perhaps you could consider Jack's diagnosis? Though I don't think 'extremely angry b***h' is a medical term."

The shot took her high in the chest and actually knocked her right off her feet, sending her back against the patchy earth before she bounced back to her feet with a grunt. That one hurt, and she winced, resisting the urge to rub at the spot before the sting faded away to tolerable again. "Is there some unspoken rule that tall, smug assholes have to be enigmatic and tight lipped?" She snorted at the mention of Jack and his lofty opinions, rolling her eyes. "Not exactly wrong though, is he." Granted, she wasn't all that angry right now. Annoyed, sure, but not angry. Smiling back at him, she adjusted her grip on her daggers, darting in once again to draw a quick, sharp slash across her chest. HP: 23 DMG: 5 CHG: 1/3

Lex knew when to surrender in a spar, and his instincts were telling him that this was indeed that exact moment. Her blows were starting to hurt, the fear shield obviously weak and holding up about as well as wet paper. He forced Regal back in to his totem state then put his hands up, slowly backing away after that last slash to the chest.
"You're good - I needed that." Lex smiled, picking up his coat where he'd left it and shrugging it back on with practiced ease. "And I don't know if I'd say you're a b***h... though one spar couldn't tell me that much." He chuckled, shaking his head. Peyton seemed alright, though they'd kept conversation vague and limited at best.

Her arm was moving towards him as his weapon disappeared, and Warrick gave a protesting hiss as the small Sun stopped just short of her target and desummoned the demon back to his own totem. She stood for a moment watching him, brows up as he backed away from her, and when she was absolutely sure he was indeed throwing in the towel she'd straighten, weight rolling to rest on one hip as her arms folded loosely across her her chest. "Thank you." The smile wasn't immediate, but she did laugh at his comment, head shaking just a bit. "I am, but that's not all I am." Now she's grin, and it was bright and easy. Jack was always an a**, so it stood to reason that he would see nothing but the more vicious sides of the girl. There were plenty of other folks around the island that had nothing but nice things to say about the sassy little Sun. "If you ever need a break like that again you can always shoot me a text. I'm always done for a spar, and it's sort of my job anyways." Soon to be job? She hadn't gotten her patch yet, but she was on her way to a combat training specialty.

Lex nodded with an amicable smile, getting out his phone and opening his contacts, selecting the add new contact option. "Gladly. I need to practice dealing with close combat; the monsters don't seem to keen on long rage fighting practices, unfortunately. What was your number?"
The taller Lifer held out a hand, expression giving her a final thank you before he walked off back to his boring cubicle.

She gave him her number and returned that almost-wave as the Lifer started heading back towards the labs. He wasn't bad. A little pretentious, but then she has lots of experience dealing with that sort for attitude flaw. Honestly it didn't even seem to phase her anymore. she even found it a little--gasp--endearing at this point. carhops cavalier Thanks for the spar, let's do it again sometime!
