Storyline Work In Progress
Rumors have begun to persist within the world. Rumors of a curse that cannot be met. Something impossibly powerful. A seal so powerful it could not be destroyed. Created to end the world long ago, it was stopped before it could be used. Still- it could not be destroyed, so it was disassembled. a series of seven arcane runes that became embedded into the guardians that once held the seal separate. They agreed to break up, and moved to the ends of their world. This was centuries ago. Now, somebody is asking questions. Somebody seeks the seals.
Darkhawk, the capital city. A monolith of society and power within the kingdom of the same name. A place where all races reside in relative peace. Yet . . . those that look beyond the veneer of the world see what most civilized societies see. Corruption. Crime. The world where anything can be bought for the right price. None of this is new, none of it surprising. The civilized world tries to stop it, and the underworld continues to thrive in the places civilized society won't look, doing things civilized society can't imagine. In this sub-world, rumors are as valuable as cash. The more a rumor is denied, the more often it turns out to be true. Here . . . in the shadows . . . somebody has been asking for willing mercenaries. Those with devotion. It doesn't matter to what- just the same old question. "What do you want?" This 'Calix' (Chalice) is a well-dressed man that seems almost out of place in the light, using good manners and seems to know the right thing to say in any situation. Most shrug him off. None have given him an answer that seems to evoke any sort of reaction. Yet.
Underneath the city, deep in the earth, an ancient enigma rests. Immense, aimless, and timeless, it waits undying. A steward holding vigil with an army of caretakers. "Lucian Avitus (Light Ancestral)" is desperately seeking the keys to the organic pile known as the mass. It's power and hunger are without equal, but it has no mind. It moves, it hungers, and Lucian seeks artifacts to keep the mass from overtaking the world. Long ago, a seal was used to hold the mass at bay. Unfortunately, it was a weapon of incomparable power. Something that powerful could not be kept whole, or it would become a target for anybody seeking to challenge all creations. Thus, the seal was disassembled. Seven were chosen to carry a piece of the seal, each one imbuing the bearer with power. In ancient lore, these people were heroes. Even as fragments of the whole, the seal pieces imbued a form of immortality and infused the bearer with enhancements that were impressive.
Few realize that the seals have metamorphed over the eons. Once simply put into the skin of their bearers, the magic and pure evil of the seals have invaded their hearts. Literally. Their bodies are now twisted, their forms imbued with otherworldly might. Their lives have been so long that even they have forgotten their origins. Most have forgotten they were once men. Still, they live on and change as the world evolves around them.
Heroes are quietly summoned to not arouse suspicion from those seeking the seals as well. One claims to know where the seals are. One claims to know how to collect them . . . for a price. Under the city, a spirit waits, and divulges the location of one seal with a bargain. "Bring me the still-beating heart of the seal holder. Keep the seal for yourself- and ask me no questions."

Magni Prime https://www.google.com/search?q=Corset+Piercing&espv=2&biw=1366&bih=643&site=webhp&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=MX8tVaLpEcK1ggTx5IHIAg&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ#imgrc=_ corset piercing. Must use this somewhere.
Slave control. Corset piercings around ribs, connected to a chain. Slaver uses shock glove. Shock will stay along rib cage and sternum, causing pain- but not over heart to prevent fatal . . . side effects . . .

Those bosses are quite gruesome, and that style of piercing looks quite painful...
I like the revised intro.

Yoder Those bosses are quite gruesome, and that style of piercing looks quite painful... I like the revised intro.
The piercing itself is feasable . . . as the link attests, the practice is not unheard of. Now, using bigger rings to go around the ribs is a bit more painful, but not permanent disfigurement. It's a very public way of proving who is a slave, who was one, and who never had to be.
And the intro is the basis of the story, continuing to evolve as ideas come through. The bosses are actually adapted from somewhere else. I just made them work for a fantasy/steampunk/magical setting. ^_^

Hero benefits:
War - Melee weapon of choice, adapts to it's target. Every time it strikes a specific target, it gains strength against that one during the battle. At first somewhat weak, but with each strike grows more deadly. Single combat is a waiting game until the blade is strong enough. In a large-combat situation, the blade can quickly turn the tide of any battle.
Conquest - With each defeated enemy, a percentage chance grows to dishearten the opponent(s). Over time, enemies can cower and run from being near the rider.
Famine - Enemy read ability. Can use combat precognition to determine where weak points are on an enemy- physical, emotional, or mental. Knowing how to deprive an opponent of that which is precious, giving the rider the ability to rob somebody of will or ability to go on.
Death - Can imbue each strike with a draining ability to a basic stat. Lower levels require a turn cooldown, and a random roll to find out what stat is lowered. Mid-level allows a targeted stat, high level removes cooldown. As the player grows in both power and notoriety, the rider becomes not only more powerful as a character, but more adept at killing an opponent in ways that none can defend against.

I can image the ultimate form of Death's tactic: a rapid aging strike.

I have many good memories of that world, and it works well in my mind. I wanted to adopt Sudavia (this world) to the game for both it's familiarity, and as a love-letter to games past.

I do not remember all of the minutiae of that world . . . so I will have to fill in a lot of blanks.
