Riley gave Iah a light smile. He wasn't worried about being yelled at. Besides, this was worth asking for!
Expression warming bashfully with the continued appreciation, he ducked his head slightly and nodded. "I guess you're just lucky, then. If anyone else in my family had found you, you would have been chased off instead of helped, I bet." His parents and siblings... were such knuckleheads at times.
Letting go of the second hand, his own pulled back into his lap to warm up again from the cold fingers. His head cocked slightly, not really comprehending what Iah meant. Still, he smiled happily. "I'm glad you're yourself then, too! But, we all have bad moments, don't we? They call it getting up on the wrong side of the bed~"

"Well I can't say I'd blame them for chasing me off really, most people don't want strangers around." he was glad he'd met Riley at this point!
Though...he was laughing softly. "I wish it was a case of getting up on the wrong side of the bed." he pondered how to phrase it. "Thanks to how I grew up...I went from being a normal Cresselia....you know pink...to this. I was experimented on...and studied. Even after I changed and looked more like you did. They kept on. I changed and look like this now. They said I was now a Shadow..."
He gave a low sigh. "Far too often the dark side of me is able to take control....the part those people brought to life. I hate when I lose control of myself." he figured the other would decide not to have anything to do with him anymore after explaining that. He didn't blame him.
Honestly...he hoped Riley ran. He didn't want to hurt the boy if something caused him to snap suddenly. Though...he felt no desire to harm him, really.

As the story unfolded, Riley's eyes widened more and more. Someone experimented on Iah? They turned him into a shadow? How cruel! That was worse than getting mugged!
He couldn't help himself when he reached out to give Iah's arm an empathetic touch. "I'm so sorry... That must have been terrible..." To grow a dark side because of such torture? Another side that he was afraid of? "Your... other side... it's not here right now?"

The fact that Riley touched him after his story shocked him. He'd expected the boy to turn tail and run. Who wouldn't? But...he was still there!
Which brought a whole new feeling to him. He wanted to keep Riley safe from the other side of himself. There was a sharp shake of his head. "No, my darker side...he's not here right now. I'm afraid he was out last night though. I seem to be a little more lucid after he's been out and about. If he were here, I'm afraid you wouldn't be. If I sense him coming...I'll tell you to run. I wouldn't want you to get hurt by me." not at all.

Riley frowned slightly. It was out last night? What did that mean? So it could come out at any time...?
While he did feel a little wary, he still couldn't sense anything dangerous from Iah. The aura was confused and friendly... but not dangerous. He sighed softly and nodded assuringly. "Okay. ..but, you're really nice now, so I want to help you before the other side comes and chases you off." He jumped up to his feet with a smile. "I'll get you those gloves. Don't go anywhere, okay?" His lips pursed slightly, giving Iah a concerned look. "You won't run off before I come back, will you?"

"Some days it feels almost impossible to break his hold on me...to be myself." he sighed softly, and gave Riley an almost sad smile.
"I'll stay here...unless I feel my control slipping then I'm sorry but I'll be gone before you get back. I really don't want to see you hurt...or worse because I can't control my dark side."
He pulled the coat tighter around himself, and moved a little closer to the fire, the ground around it a little less icy and cold now. "Thank you Riley...for being so nice."

Riley chewed on a nail slightly. He was worried that Iah would be gone when he returned. He so wanted to help this guy who only needed something warm. Someone who didn't instantly attack. "Okay. I'll be right back. Don't go..." He turned and hurried back the way he'd come.
When he got back to the house, he caught heck from the family for not bringing the firewood with him. When he was finally able to ask about the gloves, he was indeed given permission for the items. While he fetched the gloves, he also picked up scarves and a hat. It really was cold out... Biting his lip, he also tucked away a few apples, some bread, cheese, and some jerky. He didn't know what Iah ate, after all, but the guy was probably hungry.
With everything tucked into a bag, he ran as fast as he could back to the fire where he'd left Iah.

Iah stayed where he was by the fire, for a bit though he got up for a few minutes to get more smaller pieces of wood to feed the fire and to once more dip his hand into the water, this time to get himself a drink.
Resettling on the ground he did feed the fire so it would burn a little hotter, and he held his hands out to it again, hearing his stomach growl lightly as he waited for Riley to return. He recalled eating the night before, he'd been in the middle of eating when the man had stumbled upon him.
He'd wrapped his fingers around his neck and half choked him, half broke his neck. Nails had pierced the flesh and that's why there was blood under the nails.
There was a soft noise of despair from him as he drew his knees up and pressed his face against them while digging his hands into his hair, clutching tight and rocking back and forth slightly.

Riley ran as fast as his feet could get him. He was suddenly thankful for all the time he'd spent running. He had a good amount of stamina.
He was incredibly relieved to see Iah was still by the fire, but he could tell something was wrong. Was the bad side coming? "Iah. I'm back," he said softly, approaching the teen from the side, a hand reaching out for Iah's shoulder. "Iah..."

He could hear something running towards him, and his fingers dug into his hair even more, almost in concern.
It was the touch to his shoulder that had his head jerking up from his knees, eyes flashing briefly, before they settled, and his expression softened from the despair that'd been on it.
"Riley..." the others name was breathed softly, and his hands fell from his head and he sat up a little, a soft smile given. "You came back." yes a part of him had doubted the other would return!

Riley flinched back slightly when he saw the flare of emotion, but it vanished as quickly as it came, and he opened up with a big smile. "I told you I would," he said with a giggle, kneeling down next to the shadow teen. "Just like you're still here~"
Dropping back to sit, he set out the bag he'd brought and shuffled through it. He listed off each thing as he pulled it out for Iah to see. "Okay, I got you the gloves, a scarf, another scarf, and a hat. I also brought some food, but, I don't know what you like. I didn't think to ask before leaving. So, here. Take what you want."

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." he didn't! "I have no desire to hurt you, please don't worry." the flare of emotion had died as soon as he saw Riley. That was promising.
Iah looked at the items as they were pulled out and picked the various warm clothes up. The hat was easy...he pulled that onto his head, albeit crookedly. The gloves were straight forward. The scarves...they were picked up and he looked at them curiously. "How do I use this?"
The food though, it made his stomach growl loudly. "I'm not very picky on what I eat. Thank you for all of this. Is there anything at all I can do in repayment?" he dug in his pocket and found the money he'd recalled shoving in there. "Here, take this."

Riley gave Iah a reassuring smile. "I know you didn't mean to. I should have called out sooner."
He watched the clothing get put into place with delight. It made him very happy to be helping someone. "Here." He took the scarf and stretched it out. "It's for keeping your neck warm." He looped it around Iah's neck a few times, letting the ends trail down Iah's chest. "You can do the same with the other one, or wrap it around your head, or just keep it as an extra."
He shook his head with a smile at the mention of repayment, his jaw slacking when the money was pushed at him. "I-Iah, no, it's okay! I don't need that. I-I live with my trainer, and his family. I don't have to worry about food and things. You can keep it."

"It's okay I might not have heard you anyhow. I was lost in memories...realizing what happened last night." there was a touch of anguish in his voice. He didn't like it when his other side came out to play!
"Oh! I see!" there was a note of delight at having his neck warming up this way. He'd seen hats and gloves but never scarves. So it was no wonder he was confused. "This is cozy thank you." it was!
He frowned some but gave a nod of his head tucking the money back into his pocket. He had no real need for it. Never went near anywhere he'd need it, but maybe in the future it would come in handy. "If you're sure....wish there was some way I could give you my thanks though."

Riley settled back, watching Iah a moment. Last night? He was silent as Iah adjusted to the clothing and figuring out the repayment that Riley didn't want. "Just knowing you'll be warm tonight is enough for me." He chewed his lip slightly, scooting a little closer. "Do you.. want to talk about last night? It might help."
