It wasn't until he began to move that Irene saw- and smelled- the blood. Automatically her hands went to her purse, but all she had were a couple of bandaids, which wouldn't help at all. Biting her lip as she began to see the extent of his injuries, she pulled her gloves off first, holding them in a clenched fist. Then she took the small flask she carried, dribbling a few drops onto the gloves, then holding it out to him. "Drink- it's water. I'll hold it for you."

Though her attention was mostly on Helicon's face, she glanced at the ropes that bound his wrists. "*********, do you think your claws would work on those? If you can get it started, I'll help." Not that she had much confidence in her physical prowess, but ropes weren't nearly as impossible as metal bars, especially if ********* could fray them.

As casually as her hat had been tossed aside, it was soon enough picked up again. Rolling it in her hands along the rim, she contemplated aloud.

"You would think I would have noticed this earlier... alas... now I will need to get creative... c'est la vie!"

Reaching into her hat like a magician would do for a magic show, she felt around before eventually pulling out a pair of kiddy-scissors meant for kindergarten students.

"...best I could come up with on short notice!"

Rather than pass off the tool to the senshi, she moved in to do the work herself.

Irene was clearly tending to other issues at the moment. No need to interrupt!

Sometimes when you were convinced everything was dark and everything was a trick, genuine kindness went further than expected. There was something familiar and comforting in Irene's body language as she helped him, and when she offered him water, well, he wasn't proud of the noise he made.

The relief was otherwordly, and the knight exerted a small whimper at the sensation of liquid on his chapped lips and dry throat.

The picturesque thing to do was to be sullen and brave and brooding until his rescue, but reality was never like stories, especially when things got this ugly. Not everyone was as brave as they wanted to be, and as Helicon found it within himself to have a little bit of hope, and to see escape as a possibility, and to feel something again, he cried.

It was a small sound at first, and then all at once it was an ugly sob from his chest and his throat. The rope binding him gave way, and the first thing he did with his freedom was grab the senshi girl he'd previously been so suspicious of just moments earlier to embrace her in spite of the burning pain in his wrists and shoulder. It did nothing to deter the fervor of his gratitude.

"Thank you."

Well, that did it. Irene's tears from just moments before weren't even dry on her cheeks yet, but when Helicon started to cry, it set her off again. When he reached for her, she instinctively wrapped her arms around him, forgetting for the moment that he didn't know who she was. "It's okay," she blubbered, reassuring herself as much as him. "You're going to be okay. It's all going to be okay."

But not if they just sat there all night. Trying to shake off the emotions that threatened to overwhelm her, she took the soggy gloves and tried to wrap them around his wrists. "This should help a little. And here." This time she pulled a small pillbox out of her purse, offering it to him. "The round ones are aspirin. It's not much, but it might help you feel a little better."

Part of her would have been content to just stay there, now that she knew he was going to be alright. The more sensible part urged her to keep moving. "*********, is the coast clear? We'll have to move quickly. And we need to stop by that first hallway again." She had made a promise, and even though that wasn't exactly her first priority right then, she had no intention of breaking it.

Moving nimbly upon her feet, the masked senshi went to the hallway, glancing down it first to take a casual inspection before closing her eyes to focus on the surrounding energies.

"...it seems as if we can go with little to no intervention..."

Her ears perked up as tall as they could, maintaining a certain level of caution as she gestured them to move.

However, before moving herself, she backpedaled towards the pair.

"I can assist if you think your legs will slow you down." She didn't need to kneel down since he was taller, but she rolled a shoulder to try and get her point across to him. He could lean on them if he needed it!

Helicon seemed to be silent, save for heaving breaths and the streaming tears streaking through blood and grim on his cheeks. Fumbling fingertips started reaching for the aspirin but after he took one he stopped, shoulders sinking as he looked at the pillbox. "I made it dirty," He said in an apologetic tone, looking strangely forlorn. It was such a minor thing compared to what was happening, but it seemed like a weird straw to break him, to be sad about. Or maybe there was just too much to be sad about that had abstract sources that it was nice to have a tangible thing to place his guilt on. She had offered him something and he ruined it.

Like he was certain he had and would continue to ruin everything else.

"Yeah. Help," He nearly croaked, stumbling to his feet with the help and gladly leaning on *********. "T-...Thank you..."

"Don't worry about it." Even if she wasn't personally invested in this case, a dirty pillbox would still have been the least of Irene's worries. She put it back in her purse without flinching, much more concerned about Helicon's injuries than a trinket she could easily clean, or even replace, if necessary. And the fact that he thought otherwise stung a little, even though he was in obvious distress.

She pulled her hand out of her purse, this time clutching her inhaler. If they were going back into the cold, she needed to be prepared. Not that a couple of puffs of medicine would do much to help with the frigid air, but it might help. Collapsing was not an option, not until they were all safe.

Once she finished with her precautionary puffs, she slipped the inhaler back into her purse and went to check the hallway for herself. Sure enough, it looked basically empty. Nodding to herself, she went back to Helicon and took one of his hands, squeezing it gently. "Let's go. If anything happens- if we run into anyone- follow *********, okay?"

The unspoken promise was that she would cover their retreat if it came to that. Even with her limited skills, she was sure she could do that much.

"Now, let's go." Fingers crossed, Irene let go of Helicon's hand and began to work her way down the hallway, staying alert in the hopes of catching any would-be ambushers off guard.

With a hand, the senshi-suited Mauvian gently stroked the boy's hair. "It's not problem..." she gently reassured as the trio hobbled out of the holding cell. A subtle nod of the head was the only acknowledgment she gave to Irene's plan of action.

Initially the quiet was calming, and rather appreciated. Yet, as they moved further along, the Mauvian's ears swiveled a bit in a puzzled manner.

That boy who had pointed them in the proper direction wasn't even where they had left him. It was a bit distressing, though again, there was gratitude in the temporary peace. The last thing she needed to do was point out something so blatantly obvious now.

Helicon was having trouble not just sinking in as ********* stroked his hair. He wished they were somewhere else. The pain of standing, of breathing, was unbearable, and he just kind of wanted to curl up in a ball and rest now that he had two comforting presences.

"Okay, I'm trying," He hoarsely said as he limped along leaning on on the Mauvian senshi.

All he had to do was follow them. It was all he could do. And hope he'd be back at Lydia's soon.

Their progress down the hall was slow. Irene didn't want to get too far ahead of the others, but she made sure to stay out in front, so that if anyone came, she could try to intercept them. Looking over her shoulder every few seconds, to reassure herself that Helicon was still upright and following. When the corridor began to widen, she quickened her pace, looking around them for the Negaverse agent who had helped her earlier. Their agreement was that he'd wait for her there, and join her on the way out.

Except there was no one there. Judging from the noise, there were still people in the funhouse, still fights going on. But his post was deserted, and Irene had no way to know if that was his choice or not.

Part of her wanted to look for him. She'd promised that she would try to help, and she couldn't back out of that. But her promise was contingent on him waiting for her, which he hadn't done. As badly as she wanted to find out what had happened to him, he wasn't her priority. He wasn't the reason she'd pushed her way through the makeshift prison. She hadn't let him stop her before, and she couldn't now.

Instead, she waited, fingers crossed, while ********* and Helicon caught up to her. Hoping that he would show up from out of nowhere, and that she would be able to rescue two people that night. Maybe it was foolish to hope for that, but she was still disappointed when he didn't show up.

"Alright," she told her companions with a sigh. "Let's keep moving. We're almost out."

The Sailor suited cat couldn't help but notice as Irene frantically looked about. Helicon might not have noticed due to his weary state, but the artificial senshi was alert enough to see what was going on.

Still managing to keep the far taller knight upright, as they hobbled forward, ********* uttered something to the senshi.

"We will find him again... just another time..." She briefly brushed her hand against the Senshi of Peace's cheek.

"First priority is this one though!" With another affectionate gesture, she shifted her hand from Irene's cheek to Helicon's cheek.

They hobbled past the various obstacles that had been found in that fun house, no longer being blindsided by their surprise treachery.

At least it isn't a warehouse on fire...

Find who?

Helicon's limp head raised slightly as Irene and ********* seemed to be looking for someone else, but they seemed to not matter after it became clear they weren't there.

It didn't matter to him, either, he was shamed to say. Not when he saw the way out just ahead.
