Horace bounced up on the balls of his feet. Something about the way she stood and her tone made him pause. Horace shrugged. "If it makes you feel better, I'm usually awful at this - you're just my lucky charm, Captain. I should just take you along everywhere." He looked her up and down thoughtfully. "You're a bit tall to tote about, though."

This time he went with a simple punch to her gut - not terribly strong, but easy. Hew wondered if she knew that her tunic shirt was definitely still in the range of 'grabbable'.

The trainee snorted softly. "At least one of us is useful." That seemed like the only plus side in this situation. Admittedly, she did seem a bit amused that she'd be someone's good luck charm to tote around. The next attack wasn't like the usual intensity, and Claude was able to recover and move back quickly.

She tried firing a shot as she moved, but it just went off into the sky.

Oops.

"Are you implying I'm not useful? Ah, my heart." Horace childishly stuck his tongue out at her, blue jewel flashing. Her shot missed him entirely and he clicked his tongue in admonishment. "You could take lessons with Jordan."

Reaching out, he grabbed the neckline of her shirt, twisting it in his fist. A seam may have popped. His other hand came around with a hook to her jaw, hard and fast.

Actually, she was implying that she wasn't useful, since Horace was the one who was actually landing hits...but she wasn't about to tell him that now. He missed the opportunity for one vaguely kind notion. "Who's Jordan?" She asked.

Though she came to this spar prepared for these kinds of actions...it still didn't mean she liked them. The punch to the jaw earned another pained hiss as her head snapped to the side. b*****d. She was momentarily stunned, and thus didn't attack back.

Horace kept hold of her shirt, twisting the neckline further. He knew he had to take advantage of her dazed state. The possibilities were endless. With a smirk, he let go and spun her, switching quickly to a choke hold. With his free hand, he reached up to tug viciously at her bundled up hair. A couple of yanks and it was free - still braided, but free. Good enough, he decided. Abruptly, he released her, fists aiming to punch her right up under her ribcage as she went.

He really hoped she'd hit him soon instead of missing - he was starting to feel bad about whaling on this girl. "Hair looks better down. And Jordan is a Sun hunter, makes it his job to train newbies." He cracked his neck and waited.

Her hands shot up to try and pry his arm away from her neck. Her teeth gritted lightly, and another hissed escaped her lips as he yanked her braid, in turn pulling her head back. She was released, complete with a punch to the ribs, and stumbled away from him. Damn. She just narrowed her eyes at him as she whirled around, making a mental note to keep this Jordan in mind to look into later, but for now...

She was going to use her charged attack.

Claude raised her pistol and braced it with both of her hands. In the majority of spars she didn't bother to use it, but this one just called for it. Horace was beating her a** far too much for her liking, and she wasn't incompetent. She released her attack, showering Horace on a volley of bullets.

At least she'd go out with a bang. All the pun intended.

Holy s**t was the only thought Horace could get out before there were bullets everywhere. It was like a meteor rain, or an unpredictable tornado,or his Grandma's flip-flop when she was angry, or any other things that was highly un-dodgable. The hits against his shield, the pelting fire, it was almost cathartic, in a way. He sucked in sharp breaths at each one. It hurt, yes, but it made him feel alive. Horace dropped to one knee, breathing heavily as stars danced across his vision.

He was bleeding here and there, his arm, his temple, a long line across one cheek, but he grinned. Springing up, he ran closer, ignoring the pains of his body. No,. not ignoring them, relishing them. His hand caught her braid. It was such a good idea to keep it bound, but he liked it as leverage. He pulled it fiercely and kicked her in the knee.

It had been rather cathartic for her as well. Only because she had finally brought him a fraction of pain he'd been dishing out on her. Which continued. She couldn't dodge him in time, and her head was jerked as he grabbed her braid again. This was followed up by a loud and sharp hiss as he kicked her knee, a sharp searing paining shooting up her entire leg. The immediate reaction had been to want to fold on it, but she remained standing, as it also helped that he kept her up by her braid.

She swung her pistol around, but instead of whipping him she pressed the barrel of it into his shaved temple. She then pulled the trigger.

He spat out her name as a curse. The pain was blindingly pure, a white-hot spark against his head. Horace felt sick, nauseated by the force and heat and the sudden stream of blood running down from his temple. It soaked into the collar of his shirt, and some corner of his mind stored a note to ask Melvin how to get blood out of clothing. Although he nearly spun away from her, he gritted his teeth, groaning, and kept hold of her hair.

His other hand reached out and latched onto her gun hand, twisting it up under his arm. Then and only then did he release her hair. Horace gave her arm another cruel twist and brought one of his tekkos down across her wrist. The blades were only too happy to score along her arm and try to knock the gun out of her hand.

"Nice try, Captain." Horace said her rank the same way someone else might hiss out 'b***h', but he grinned fiercely, his body tense and eyes alight.

With that last maneuver, it was done. Once again, her shield dissipated, and she knew it was over, and though she hadn't come out ahead, she definitely felt she'd had improved. Claude took victory in that. As he twisted her arm, she let her pistol be de-summoned, the weapon taking the form of a silver ruby ring on her finger. "I know, mon petit sanglier." She hissed back softly. She then jammed her elbow into the side of him to get him to release her.

"It means boar."

As her weapon disappeared from her hand, Horace desummoned Dr. Jannisari as well, hearing that dry hum in his head that meant she was pleased, for now. With an 'oof', he let go of her, smiling pleasantly. Horace did, however, pull a face at Claude's translation.

"Hey! I'm not a boar!" He frowned and poked the snakebites below his lips. "Unless you mean these..." Horace shrugged, feeling too high on adrenaline to take any kind of offense. "I mean it, though, you did really well today. You can spar me anytime, Captain." With that he winked, flipped up a mock salute and ran off, presumably to shower off the blood.
