At least Rep still gave almost as good as he got; hitting Ever hard enough that he almost lost his balance and swept low, instead of high. There was a knot between his eyebrows, confused and maybe a bit alarmed by how hard he hit back. Or, maybe, just alarmed by how well he was doing, all things considered. "...you're not letting me win, though?" HP: 28/50 Charge: 3/3 DMG: 10

This time Rep did go down, staggering backwards as his shield threatened to give out completely, teetering on the very edge, the lingering dull pain once again replaced by something stronger and sharper. The bruises had started lingering from all these spars, but something about it reminded him of his time as an actual trainee and it wasn't all bad.
"Naw." he said with that same grin. "I'm no. You are just plain old winning." And it was simply the hook that clipped Ever this time as Rep jabbed with the axe.
"No much strength left even." It would be depressing if he let it.

Ever should have pursued, probably -- finished it off, shown a bit of ruthless spirit. Instead he hesitated, stepping back a bit, weapon still raised but -- "Jesus. Should we stop? Are you alright?" He just didn't have the heart. He was, in fact, more inclined to step in and offer Rep a shoulder to lean on to get him back off the fields. HP: 27/50 Charge: 3/3 DEF: 8

Rep laughed with just an edge of bitterness. "Aye, we can stop. I'm ********. Sorry I'm no much sport lately." His pride was a little wounded at his own inability to present a decent opponent in a fight that he'd started, but he refused to let it put him off. "I'm fine though." He didn't feel particularly fine, insomnia coupled with constant spars and a weakened shield wasn't doing very much for his physical state.
"I appreciate the spar. Mibbey next time I'll be more formidable."

"You need a hand back?" His weapon dissipated all at once, and Ever shifted where he stood -- no longer bitching about his lost cigarette or the unwarranted attack. More than anything, he just looked confused. World turned upside down. He shrugged, uncomfortably, up at Rep -- and only after a moment, dug up a smile. It lacked its usual s**t-eating ease.

Rep shook his head, he was so proud that he would have refused a hand even if he could no longer walk and had to drag himself back to the dorms with nothing but his fingertips. As it was he was slightly woozy, but thanks to the wards and Tracey's tenacity even at such low shield, he was sure he could make it.
It upset him somewhere to see the way Ever looked at him, as if something wasn't right, as if he was dying and it was the only polite way to behave. It chilled him though he wasn't sure why and there was a frantic flutter as he thought to himself he needed to get as much fear as possible as fast as possible. If it didn't work, he didn't know what he'd do.
"Nah man, I'm good. Thanks again for like, entertaining us, I like, need to get back into shape." Ever got a friendly bow of the head. "See you around, maybe for a rematch doon the line eh? Take care."
And with that he turned to totter carefully off the fields.

Ever let him get most of the way away, still scratching at his head, just a bit bemused, before he raised his voice in one last parting shot. "Rematch if you buy me a drink sometime!" He didn't really expect a reply, but it brought a flash of his usual smile back to his face. baneful it can be FIN or you can get last word, your choice. XD
