Nightvine looked genuinely puzzled. He sat down abruptly by the table and scratched behind his horn in thought.
"But all the dark is is the same things without the sun," Nighvine shrugged. "I've been living in the dark all my life and I haven't been eaten. Who do you think is gonna eat you? Especially in a house in the middle of a busy neighborhood with about a bajillion of my brothers, sisters, and cousins?"

As Nightvine began to talk about the dark, she started to stop shaking in fear some, taking his words to heart ", You really think they're no monsters in the dark that will eat us? We'll be safe if we go into it?"
She started to calm down a little more as she thought it all over. Maybe it wasn't so dangerous in the dark?
"Well, let me put it this way," Nightvine said, wandering away to get the pizzas ready to be put into the oven. "Do you know of anyone personally who was attacked by a monster in their own home at night? Or eaten? Did you see it for yourself?"
Nightvine reached for the can of sliced pineapples and searched about for the manual can opener in a utensil drawer.

"No, I haven't," she replied, slowly coming out from under the table to try and look around. Slowly her eyes began to adjust to the darkness, her being able to see where stuff was some ", So are we going to get a few more candles to light so it isn't so dark? Perhaps I can go into the darkness more if you are with me."
"Candles ruin your night vision," Nightvine said. "If you wait a bit, you'll see that one or two candles is enough to give you what you need to see. You've also go your ears, your nose, and your hands! Bats bounce sound off things to see, isn't that something?"
Nightvine let her stay under the table for as long as she felt she needed to.
"I'm going to start putting stuff on our pizza, I think I hear my dad upstairs checking the phone lines. If even the phones are down, we'll just have to pretend we're all out camping for a while. At least we have natural gas and water! You've got my parents and me here with ya, there's no need to be scared of anything. As long as you got a friend, you don't have to be afraid."

Trying to think of a shadowy figure Holly sees, gets scared of and possibly screams, but then the lights turn back on or something and it turns out to be something like a funny looking mop. Then the two laugh about how silly it was for Holly to be afraid of it.
She gave a nod at his explanation of why they didn't need many candles, her still staying under the table to the time being ", That is kind of cool Nightvine... but we're not bats."
Still staying under the table, Holly was unsure what Nightvine was talking about when he talked about camping ", Camping? I have never done that before either."
"Yeah, we're not bats but Phonies don't really need all that much light when you think about it. Think of all the money you'd save if you used a few less electrical things, right?" Nightvine said, piling cheese onto the uncooked dough of one pizza.

Thinking over what Nightvine had just said, she tried to think of something with electricity that she could use less often to use less electricity ", Umm... I can't think of anything I could use less, because I don't use a lot to begin with. I live in the lagoon, so electricity and water don't mix well."
