Finn waved off the offer. It was noted and stored away, though really, he'd already come to that conclusion. Ripley was, however, a factor in Finn's decision making when it came to activities performed with other people (just as Chance already suspected). He knew the other man never had to know about it (and never wanted to), and he knew that it was within their arrangement to take Chance up on it, but at the same time....

Eh. It was complicated. And while he wasn't really willing to untangle and consider why it was complicated, he was at least willing to accept that, most of the time, Ripley was enough.

"Ya. I met her once in a dream, and that me didn't seem to care for her much." He said, about Peyton. "Here, I've managed to mostly avoid her until somewhat recently. She didn't seem all that bad though, I have to say. Jack, however, seems to have quite a hate on for her. Possibly a hard on as well. It's difficult to say." He smirked, and pushed himself off of the bed so that he could go and refill his glass, while Chance had his little moment with his new toy.

"Both of us? At the same time? Maybe that could be arranged." His smirk widened as he poured himself some more whiskey, turning enough to glance back over towards Chance. "Would you like some more?"

Chance did not like complicated things, but for some reason he tolerated Finn and Ripley's odd relationship with a certain sense of both amusement and interest. Maybe it was because he found the pair of them to be intriguing both separately and as a "couple" (a word he only used inside of his head, since he knew that it wasn't really applicable, all things considered). Or maybe it was because they were kind of the closest things that Chance had to actual friends, whatever that meant (he didn't know how to use the word properly, really).

"Jack seems to have a hate on for a lot of people," said Chance musingly, distractedly, as he ran his fingers over the telescope again. "He's pretty interesting, though. That kind of bluntness is always appreciated, even if he takes it to a whole new level. He into her or something?"

There was a strange glint in his eyes; the same sort of fiery passion that erupted only when focusing on something he was truly dedicated to - in this case, the telescope and all that it represented - was starting to leech out into his expression, which was almost feverish in its brightness and curiosity.

"Well, if the other party is into it, I'm game," Chance said, flashing Finn a smile. "And yes, please."

"That he does." Finn mused out loud, reaching up to rub at the scruff that was overtaking his face before letting his hand drop. Chance's question gave him pause as he took it into serious consideration. "Maybe...if one can really be into an experiment of sorts. I wouldn't put it past him to ******** her both for the satisfaction of it and to use it against her...though honestly after some of the s**t he's pulled, I would be shocked if she'd let him." But who was to say. He didn't really know Peyton all that well. She could very well be the type of girl who was turned on by all of the abuse.

Nothing would really surprise Finn anymore at this point.

While her poured himself a drink, and then another for Chance as well, he scoffed. "The other party doesn't really strike me as being that adventurous for some reason." Finn glanced at Chance's face, saw that glint of passion in his eyes, and followed his gaze down to the telescope before crossing the room back to him and holding out the drink. Something in that look was...well, intriguing.

"After this one I'll help you get it back to your room and set up, if you'd like."

He'd only met Peyton once or twice, and Jack wasn't exactly well known to him either; but somehow pairing anyone with Jack seemed...not really all that possible, in a sense. Perhaps it was the giant <******** off stamp he seemed to have on his head, or maybe it was just because Chance didn't know either of them well enough to say otherwise.

He made a face. "I'm into a lot of things, but none that have ever put me anywhere I don't want to be. There were a couple of my mother's boyfriends that tried to get into my pants, but I don't deal with that s**t." The smile he gave Finn was dry, like the tone of his voice. "I'm pretty easygoing, but not that easygoing."

The focus was still divided, however; Chance's attention kept straying back to the telescope and all of its possibilities. "Well, if the other party ever wants to be adventurous, you both know where to find me," he said, a little absently, and reached out a hand to accept the offered drink, knocking it back eagerly before setting the glass down.

"Yes, excellent, I'd definitely appreciate the help," he said, getting to his feet and looking strangely childlike in his restlessness, Chance's smile bright, flickering, oddly passionate.

Finn made a face at Chance's comments regarding his mothers ex's, a bit of a change from his typical cold stare and colder smiles. "That's sick. Too bad you couldn't hunt them down now. Personally I'd like to see how they'd react to a hot poker up the a**." And he meant it, because Finn was Finn and murdery violence seemed like the best solution in that case.

Though in Jack's case, he felt like whatever Peyton allowed to happen was her just asking for it, and she deserved what she got. Possibly, however, Finn was just biased because best bros and all that.

Pushing that topic to the back burner once more, Finn gave Chance's offer a little more consideration, before he shrugged. "Who knows. Maybe he'll surprise me one day." Which was to say, Finn highly doubted it. But hey, a man could dream. Not that he was complaining though, really. He wasn't sick of his not-boyfriend so far and that in itself wasn't just surprising, but apparently also worth sticking around for.

As Chance got to his feet, Finn realized that he was ready to go now and with a mental shrug, downed the drink he had only just poured for himself, the whiskey burning pleasantly while spreading warmth all the way down. He again noted Chance's expression, filing it under the category marked interesting, before setting down his glass and stretching.

"Well, shall we then?"

"I dunno, some of them seemed to get off on pain," said Chance, turning to look at Finn over his shoulder, a dry humored smile on his face. "At least, causing pain, I'm not so sure about receiving it, but hey, maybe that's just how they are. Either way, I find being here to be much more interesting than being back there. I'm done with that life."

The way he said it sounded strangely disconnected; as though he didn't even relate himself to that world anymore. Instead, Chance was busying himself with the telescope, carefully making sure it was settled into the box it had come from and that it wouldn't jostle around too much when moved. He stood, hoisting the box, and turned to smile eagerly at Finn.

"Let's go," he said cheerfully, and made his way out of Finn's room, down the hall, and to the stairs at the end of the corridor. His room was at least close enough to one side of the building that within a few steps they were already at Chance's room, and he fumbled with the unlocked door, pushing it open and stepping inside.

It looked almost the same as when Finn had last seen it, minus the star projector on his desk. Same lack of decorations and personal effects, save for the photograph, same neatly organized clothes and tidied bed.

Chance set the telescope on his bed, hands moving impatiently, eagerly.

"I think the stand goes first, then the rest, so if you could help me get that standing..."

"Maybe they just haven't experienced the right kind of pain, then." There was something dark in Finn's expression, and it was for a moment as if he were lost in his own thoughts, but it faded within seconds, as if he had torn himself free and back to the present.

"Must be nice, to be able to move on so easily." He commented, a small smile more akin to a smirk on his lips as he stood up and readied himself to go, waiting for Chance so that he could follow him out of the room, before keeping pace with him down the hall and the stairs, finding himself soon enough stepping into the sun trainee's room, gaze sweeping around to see that it had changed very little since the last time he had been here.

The other man seemed eager to get the telescope set up, so he moved to do what he could to help, though he didn't know a fat lot about how to put any part of it together. However, the stand seemed simple enough, and he helped the other man remove it from the box, making sure with a quick glance that everything was in tact and how it should be, before doing his part in getting it in place and at the height that Chance wanted it to be.

He had to wonder about the darkness in Finn's gaze; Chance even turned back to look at him, his eyebrows raised questioningly - but then it was like it hadn't been there in the first place, and perhaps he had imagined it, so he went back to occupying himself with the telescope.

Down in Chance's room, he eagerly began taking out the pieces, making sure to keep them safe, holding them almost reverently. Directing Finn was relatively easy, because the telescope was mostly in large pieces that just needed to be fitted together properly in order to work. The stand was simple, and then it was just a matter of attaching the tube to the stand, which took a bit of finagling and some screwing, and then it was done.

"That," said Chance, approximately fifteen minutes later. "is ******** gorgeous."

He was standing with his hands on his hips beside the other man, a gleam of excitement and pleasure in his eyes. Turning towards Finn, Chance nudged him with his hip and rocked back on his heels, glancing impatiently out the window as though he somehow magically thought that time would have changed for him and it would be night so that he could see the stars already.

"This is the best ******** gift I've ever gotten," he said, almost breathlessly. "Seriously. And I mean, like, I know it's a birthday present and all, but if you and Ripley ever needed anything, please do let me know, like for serious."
