⊱xxxxChiaki began to feel slightly overwhelmed at all the things James was saying. She nodded to him in thanks when he opened the gate for her. Chiaki took a seat on one of the nearby benches and tapped her fingers against her leg in thought. "Let's see..." She said, pulling up a digital screen of the few selections of music she knew. Offering it to James she looked up at him, "Anything you recognize?" She asked. Thankfully it seemed she did have a few songs from the time period he mentioned. xxxx⊰

The park was decorated with alien trees that looked nice but clearly out of place in the city, there were vending machines selling full meals and a place to eat on the other side of area. There were some cages and an artificial reality centre kiosk near the other entrance. He looked at the list, putting away his communicator as he realised she was going to make him chose a song and not suggest one herself. "How about Sweet Child O' Mine, its not that hard to sing and I get to play a fun song." Truth be told that song leant itself to a long solo and he could play whatever he wanted as long as it sounded good. "And best of all its right there on your list next to the Cha Cha Slide and ambient noise of train tracks seven. You've got weird musical tastes." He didn't beat around the bush on this. If he was going to say it was better now than later as they were doing something unrelated. "In any case, lets get an ice cream first, I interrupted your day to drag you off singing the least I could do was get you something by way of thanks." He smiled, he realised he had been a little selfish and forceful and was not trying to make up for it by doing something nice. It was just that he had been lonely since arriving on Earth and had lost his sense of reason when he saw her on the street before.
⊱xxxxChiaki nodded, "Sure..." She said, thinking whatever song would be okay to practice. She shrugged with a smile, "Ice cream sounds good..." She really needed to get use to his randomness. It was much different from what she was use to, but in another way it was a tad refreshing.xxxx⊰

"Great." He exclaimed then walked off to fetch their ice creams, it occurred to him that he had no idea what flavour she might like but he couldn't turn back, it was a pride thing. He bought a mantis-pop for himself; it was either frozen insect pressed into the shape of a larger mantis shape or ice cream with bug flavourings, he couldn't decide and asking would ruin the illusion. For her, he got an anti-gravity Neapolitan, a new twist on an old classic that had the ice cream float in the air. He returned, walking slowly so that he didn't accidentally drop any of hers. "Here you go." He sat down on a bench next to her. "So, let me run some idea past you while I'm in the mood to listen to other people opinions. It doesn't happen often." He smiled, but he was right, he usually did what he wanted without thinking about other people. "Idea number one: I hire an assassin to kill me on stage with the only condition for payment being they beat me in a musical battle off first. Is that a feasible idea? As a doctor your probably against assisted suicide but I don't intend to die." Plus if he did lose in a musical battle off to some assassin then he probably wouldn't have made it in the business anyway. "Where do you start looking for an assassin that would take that contract? And how would you market it? Hypothetically speaking, of course." He stopped to let her speak, hoping she would bring an outside perspective to the idea.
⊱xxxxChiaki smiled slightly when he came back with the ice cream. "Thank you..." She said looking at what he had gotten her. It was a little funny how he had offered to get her ice cream but hadn't actually asked what she liked. Thankfully she wasn't particuarly picky. Chiaki looked at him curiously then narrowed her features slightly at the first idea he wanted her opinion of. "If you are speaking in pure hypotheticals you could probably find someone from the Syndicate." She said with a light shrug to hide a shiver of dissaprovement. She was glad she was protected by Genesis. "Although, you'd probably have to pay quite a lot if you wanted them to do a musical battle before the attempted murder..." She said. Chiaki then sighed and looked at him, "May I ask why you would want to do such a horrid thing?" xxxx⊰

"Of course." He reiterating the fact it was hypothetical. He doubted she would even continue talking about it if she thought he was planning to actually do it, since he rarely thought things through he wanted to know if it was possible more than anything. "The Syndicate, huh? What's that?" He had build a world inside his head and didn't really need to know companies or organisations outside of that. Though, judging by the suspicions name it was probably a black market of sorts or some sort of super corporation that was hell bent on ruling everything. "I don't think money is the issue, finding an honourable assassin is the real problem. Someone who wont poison me so that I lose on purpose." The poison aspect was the reason why he hadn't committed to the plan over simply going right ahead and ignoring all advice to the contrary. "Why? Because I exist to entertain my gods." He ran his free hand through his hair as he thought how he could explain it without her having him committed for insanity. He couldn't think of a real answer but decided something needed to be said to avoid her diving over a bush and running away. "Erm, well see, they're going to kill me if I don't do interesting things and in order to avoid that I have to do things that are progressively more interesting. If I do well, they send me a message that everybody gets to live another month." He spoke as if it was common knowledge and not at all crazy.
⊱xxxxChiaki looked slightly surprised when James asked what the Syndicate was, she had assumed that everyone in the Colony knew who they were. "Oh... Um... Well they're a criminal organization that resides in the Colony. Haven't you heard of them before?" She explained in a soft voice. "I don't think much is known of them..." Chiaki added. She listened to him as he continued to speak as if what he was saying made any sense whatsoever. For a man who seemed to do everything in an instant it was strange to hear that he had thought this out so thoroughly. When he mentioned "his gods" she looked at him with a confused and blank expression. Really, she was as for freedom of religion as the next person, but having whatever gods he believed in threaten to kill him if he didn't keep things interesting was just.... crazy. Chiaki shook her head slightly as she tried to comprehend what he was saying, "That... How... What do you mean?" She asked, now extremely confused. "What you're saying isn't making any sense; why would they want to kill everyone including yourself?" Chiaki said, humoring his idea of these gods.xxxx⊰

He would have to look into this Syndicate it might prove to be more fun then hanging around space stations bothering producers with his music. But there was something to do when he got back home, for now it was just going to be left on the back burner. "I'm sure my bookie knows something, I'll press him when I get home." His bookie handled most of his business, from the small time wagers over sporting events to reminding him about gigs that he was due to play. Technically the man was more a manager but since he couldn't afford to pay him regularly he retained the title of bookie. As soon as she started questioning his gods he seemed to tense up, he didn't want to fight her but if she kept on this road he wouldn't have much choice. "Before I answer I want you to think about what your trying to prove." He spoke in a grave tone as if giving her a warning. He had met a lot of people who questioned his gods and almost all of them he had eventually come to abandon in one form or another. "Well, I think... but this is just a theory, their really bored and what better entertainment that messing with the lives of a handful of mortals. The constant threat of everyone I know being killed over and over again is a really good motivation tool." He had changed his tone to be slightly upbeat after all he didn't not like talking about the Mighty Flying Oyster or Lobster Face, his divine servant. "I'm sure they don't want to kill everybody." He shrugged. "What's so wrong with thinking that they might be giants?" He wondered if she would get the reference.
⊱xxxxChiaki's eyes widened slightly at his change of ton, "Please, forgive me... I wasn't meaning to question your beliefs... It is only one I have not heard of before..." She said gently and apologetically. Quite respectfully she listened to him. To her, at least, things still didn't add up. However, she wasn't never one to really crush anyone's personal beliefs so she nodded. "I suppose that does make sense..." She said, still obviously a little confused. At his last two statements she merely looked at him, wondering if his question was really rhetorical or not.xxxx⊰

He shook his head slowly and raised his hand to stop her from apologising. It seemed she didn't get there reference after all, he had watched a lot of films and some of them had seeped into his brain. "Look, you don't have to think I'm right and accept what I say to be undeniable fact, I'm not trying to make a cult. Just think; what if he is right and go from there." He shrugged, he knew he was mad it was that knowledge that kept him sane enough not to drag others down with him, if they wanted to follow his music that was fine but the space animals were another matter entirely. "So answer me this. Your on Earth on holiday, you've grown accustomed to the gravity and managed to brave the outside world. You're on holiday so you don't have to worry about a sudden call from the office asking you about where they keep the gauze. What do you do for fun?" Presumably she had been planning on doing something before he had appeared and since he had lost interest in the idea of singing and discussing the divine he wanted to know what it was. "Also on a loosely related note, where could you possibly work that would give you a holiday to Earth? Sounds great, I'll cash in on my geology degree." His parents didn't just give him a guitar.
⊱xxxxChiaki nodded and smiled lightly at him. When he asked as to what she did for fun she shrugged lightly, "Well, mainly I was here in particular to find some new clothes. The ones I had were beginning to get old and completely out of fashion." She said as she crossed her legs and leaned back slightly. "I only had a short while here, so I was planning on taking the time to maybe meet up with a few of my colleagues from when I was younger..." Chiaki told him. Before she had gone to work for Genesis, she had worked with a small group of engineers who worked to create better bionic limbs and organ substitutes. It was steady but very boring work. They mostly all worked on Earth so she had thought about ringing them up to catch up. Chiaki looked at James for a moment before she realized that he only knew her as a doctor for the colony's underground. "Oh... I'm a biomedical engineer for Genesis... I just work for the clinic during my free time..." Chiaki explained.xxxx⊰

"Oh, they look alright to me. But then again I know nothing of fashion and wear things that are practical." Everything he was wearing was durable, designed to withstand small impacts and being burned, he did a lot of things in a day and didn't want to constantly have to keep switching clothes because they fell apart. "Forgive me if I think clothes shopping sounds dull, there just no urgency involved." Unless there was some sort of shop where they picked your perfect clothes and fired them at you out of a cannon, he doubted he would enjoy it. "Where did you study? I toured my fair share of universities with my parents." They gave lectures while he ran around the halls, sometimes he would attend lectures but more often than not he would plough into people with all his might and laugh maniacally as he lay on the floor afterwards. Truly, he was annoying child who hadn't really changed that much. "Oh, I know Genesis." He didn't just mean the band, he knew the actual company. "As much as I would like free holidays around the galaxy, I doubt they would hire me. Not after Red Speck." He shook his head. He had caused quite the incident back on Calisto and now reputable companies steered clear of him. "So, do you want to go shopping? And I will do my level best to be a normal person. I can't promise I wont try to start a fire when you take too long or bark when I see a big dog, but I'm willing to try for you." He laughed slightly.
⊱xxxxChiaki smiled and shook her head, "No harm in feeling that way... Shopping isn't everyone's favorite activity..." She said with a smile. Chiaki then nodded to his question, "The Specialty School of Engineering on Qerus..." She told him, wondering if he had ever been there. When he mentioned knowing Genesis, she nodded again, hardly anyone it seemed didn't know of the company. "The Red Speck?" She said questionably. Chiaki smiled again at the mention of him offering to go shopping with her. "I can try my best not to bore you then..." Chiaki told him with a friendly smile. xxxx⊰

James finished off his ice cream and chewed on the stick, he was pretty intent on getting all the flavour out of it, it was just something he did and had never really questioned why. "Qerus? Is that the one with the big holographic atlas or the large statue of Cerberus? Either way, I have been to both, I seem to remember attending an interesting lecture on the process of mining precious gems from stray asteroids using geo-gravitational buoys once, a fascinating subject." He smiled slightly, then frowned as he wondered if that had actually happened. It would be spooky if he had imagined an entire lecture complete with questions but it wouldn't be the first time he would have imagined something so clearly. He stopped himself before he managed to start asking too many questions. "Ah, Red Speck it is the base on Calisto where I was born. Its a geological research base the that primarily studies the effects of civilisation on natural satellites." He recited the base's mission statement to he so that she wouldn't pester him with questions about it. The base was so incredibly boring just thinking about it too much might put him into a permanent coma. "Ah? I'm sorry if I implied you could do that, I find you quite interesting." He grinned. "So, where to?" He put the popsicle stick in the bin and stood up.
⊱xxxxChiaki smiled and nodded, "The one with the atlas..." She told him, happy that he had been where she had gone to school. She nodded at his having attending a lecture there. Tapping her finger lightly against her chin she smiled thinking of a place to take him, "Let's see... I'll take you to Ceiba SF then..." She said, giving him a smile before pointing in a direction for him to go in. As she led him, Chiaki walked next to him, "So James, I've meant to ask this, but do you do anything specific on the Colony?" She asked, looking over at him. Chiaki had seen and met him several times, but had never gotten to know him.xxxx⊰
