He breathed out. "I didn’t tell you for all the reasons you could not tell me. The world we are in is dangerous, and my side even moreso. Your side is unorganized. We're always been structured here, and I've seen what happens to traitors way before I even started taking steps in what is viewed as the wrong direction. I have been dragged through those halls and faced the threat of my own life and others around me. I lost my eye early, been broken and bruised, and been in the hospital too many times to count. I never wanted you, who was just getting your life together, getting back with your family, and aspiring to be in ballet, to be dragged into this. Not when I was trying to get my other life back together too."
He looked to Billy and gave his arm another firm squeeze. "No. We dated before we even know we were both involved. But – it helped."
Moving away from Bismuthite, he stood as closely as he could to the bars. "I'm sorry."

Ganymede swallowed down a lump that rose to clog her throat. She hardly knew what to do, but soon realized there wasn't anything she could do while caged. She wished she knew what words to say instead; she wished she knew how to resolve everything. But she wasn't strong enough—had never been strong enough. She was stuck here at the mercy of her enemies. There wasn't anything she could do to help either of them now when she couldn't even help herself.
Yet there was still hope. Every word from Bismuthite's mouth stirred a sense of purpose within her. If she could only get out of here, she could make everything right.
“What are you apologizing for?” Ganymede said, looking between the two as she gripped the bars of her cage. She kept her voice low and whispered in case anyone should try to listen from the other side of the door.
“I'm sorry,” she countered. “If I'd known... I would have helped you. I would have done everything I could. You know that. Everything they've done, everything they've made you go through... did any of them ever care about you? About either of you?”
She'd heard enough about how the Negaverse operated, and how it treated its members, to be fairly confident that the answer now was “no,” whether or not it had been before. There must have been something about it that drew Ladon in all those years ago; there must have been something about it to make it seem worth the injuries and the torture.
But now?
“Is it worth it now? Staying with them,” she said.
