It was an odd feeling when a conversation hit a wall. It was almost as jolting as physically doing so, and she felt her smile fade as he stared at her.

He also did that a lot. Stare at her. Saying nothing, doing nothing. Just staring. It was a little creepy.

But at least he finally responded. It was a vague, lazy response, but a response. Could have been worse. She bit the inside of her cheek to stop a snappy remark. She was doing so good today, deflecting her answer with the occasional sarcasm and brush off. So the female took another juicy bite of her meat and rather than shoot back a snarky response, she tried again.

"O...kay. Do you have any siblings or other family?" She had already mentioned her mother, it seemed only fair that he extend the courtesy.

A little creepy?

Clearly she had not hung out around Okeanos quite long enough.

Okeanos seemed to find it curious that she was asking him another question, tilting his head just slightly and glancing rather intently at her lips as they moved as if he was reading her lips instead of actually listening to what she was saying with the earfins he clearly had. Along with that, he mouthed, as if he was repeating to himself what she was asking him.

He paused in this, leaning back and tapping his chin as if he was really thinking of this one, like it was a hard question to truly answer for one reason or another.

And then he said, "No."

... The answer was that simple, apparently.

Mimicking her talking was another habit she noticed from Okeanos. He was crazy, definitely. But he had a few...quirks about him that he regularly did. Things that used to confuse her, but now she was beginning to take in stride.

Whether or not that was a bad thing to get used to crazy, she didn't know.

At least he actually answered her. "That's good." It took a moment to realize how that could be considered cold. She blinked at the male. "Because solitary life seems to suit you." Save? Kind of?

She finished off her hunk of meat before continuing, her emerald eyes shifting to the view off the cliff face. "I don't know if you know that the islands getting crazy. You might want to be careful of any demons...or angels...or fae. Besides me." Back to the original reason why she had come. She never saw Okeanos not here, so she didn't know if he knew how bad things had gotten.

Cressida may have been concerned about appearing cold, but the statement she made about it being good didn't even make a blip on his radar. When she attempted to save the statement by commenting on his solitary life being suited, he only let out a small chuckle, arguably sounding normal for just a few moments.

And then she changed subjects, catching his attention with a quirked brow. Why would she think he needed to be cautious of anyone, exactly? As Okeanos, not even as a naiad, he was strong and stood alone. Cressida surely knew better.

And yet, her information must have been of some use, because he didn't derail her.

"Curious. You are a demon yourself, and yet you bad talk them." Okeanos smirked, taking a bite of the fish. "What prompts this?"

His voice was remarkably steady.

Well that was a question she wasn't entirely sure how to answer. Of course her family knew why, it was a source of pride or shame depending on who was asked. But it wasn't like she could go; oh, my Uncle blew a chunk out of the Tree home of the faun and now everyone hates everyone.

She knew better than that. She'd be hesitant to tell a trusted friend, so to tell Okeanos of all pae? Her entire family could be in danger if linked to Rakens attack.

But her silence was starting to rival one of the naiad's stares. "Just saying that at the moment, the worst in pae is coming out. Inter-racial attitudes are pretty strained at the moment. There's been a rise in kidnappings and attacks just because of a difference in race." She looked nothing like her Uncle, being not blood related. So as long as she and the rest of their family kept their big mouths shut, they'd be in no more danger than the next pae.

Just saying?

Okeanos was no slouch. As out of touch as he could seem to be to other pae, he was a keen observer, able to pick out bits and pieces of a pae and put them together to form a clear picture. This picture didn't even need to be clear for him to know the obvious truth, though.

She was lying.

If it was a just saying, she would not have made the effort to bring it up in the first place, and he knew it. Her behaviour in bringing up the comment was too coy compared to her usual, and she faltered in her response, not giving an immediate explanation as to why she had brought up something like that in the first place. There was something she knew that she was not telling him, at the very least.

Okeanos took another bite of the fish, no hint at what was going through his mind on his face. Not that there was ever much of a hint, his expressions running the usual gamut of either straight-faced or highly amused...

"Do you think one who is suited to solitude would have to worry about being kidnapped? Nothing gained."

This might have been the longest time he had given straight-faced, serious responses.

It wasn't a lie, but by far was it the whole truth. And she more or less skirted his entire question, but he didn't press.

She was very relieved he didn't press.

Her eyes flicked from the landscape to the naiad, a light smirk flashing on her face as she relaxed again. "Well I wouldn't expect you personally to be kidnapped. But I thought you should know not all visitors are going to come bringing you food. I wouldn't..." She cut herself off. want to see you get hurt. Yeah. That would go over nicely. "...trust any pae that comes by." That possibly could include her. Guardians, with her Uncle perhaps especially her.

Okeanos quirked a brow at this, settling back slightly.

"Are you implying I'm stupid?"

Perhaps her statement already didn't go over well, but he didn't necessarily seem to be offended. In fact, after a moment, he stared the laughter he was known for.

So much for keeping a straight face.

When it stopped, he simply replied with a, "I don't trust anyone." That likely included her, to some extent. He didn't say that for sure, though. "Now, back to your original point," he crossed his legs, swatting off to the left in an almost flamboyant fashion, "what prompts this?"

She blinked at his question, taken back. Even after he started laughing, she continued staring. "I wasn't intending to, but if you think I was..." Cressida started, her temper flaring slightly. Taking her generosity as an insult! This naiad...

It was good that he didn't trust her, but perhaps a bit of her wished they had built at least something in the time they spent. But in the end they really were no different then when she had first come to his home. Except she was a little less snappy, both for her growing up and for her tolerance for the insane fish pae.

"Why does there have to be more? Not happy with the response given?" Oh to seven hells! Does he really know there is? How could he?

As was expected, Cressida's temper flared and Okeanos laughed. It was almost a rhythm at this point.

"No, there does not have to be, Green," and there was that agitating nickname again, because Okeanos seemed incapable of calling her anything but that. He took another bite of the fish, taking a long enough pause for her to attempt to formulate a response, but not long enough to actually say it. "There was hesitance, though, and it seems unlikely you came out here just to picnic and 'just say' something."

Even if she would not tell him, Okeanos already had gears turning in his head. He formulated a few theories and tucked away the information, just as he had tucked away the fact that she had a mother, and therefore parents. Parents that were likely angels, demons, or even faeries, considering how she talked of defending him against her--

He tilted his head, for a moment, before moving back to a relatively normal sitting position and finishing off the fish.

"The wriggler was decent."

There was the nickname again. Did he even remember her real name? She only said it to him once, and he never repeated it. Either he relished in the annoyance of it, or he really did forget. She parted her lips to respond, however Okeanos started talking again before she could start.

Sometimes with all the crazy, she almost forgot how intelligent he was. Almost. It made her wonder how much he gleaned from her life without her explicitly meaning to. "Can't visit anymore just to visit? After what, three - four times seeing each other I'd almost call us friends." She snarkily 'joked', making it obvious that she'd go no further in the truth of why she came.

"Glad you liked it." Was that it's real name? She didn't much care about 'types' beyond fish, deer, rabbit. Like salmon or white tailed or all that meaningless nonsense.

The defensiveness and snarkiness did not hide the fact that Cressida was not going to elaborate any further, but perhaps it was not meant to hide it. That was fine. Okeanos laughed at her remark, seemingly amused by it or her or something in the middle, before leaning back to look at his pile of rocks again for whatever reason.

His eyes swung back in front of him, and he adjusted, leaning forward instead. They quickly scanned over the rest of what was available, mostly red meats and meats that were not green, and seemed to not care for any more of it, at least for the moment, since he finally set the plate back down on the blanket.

At least he was polite enough to give the plate back, it seemed. Nothing gained?

"Friends," he murmured, with a chortle, and that seemed to be the word he was particularly stuck on, not having moved on from it even though the conversation had moved on. He was trying it on, perhaps, like a second skin, or incredulous she would even dare to use such a word, or perhaps amused that she thought they could become friends--it was hard to tell, and he gave no external hints as to which one it was, face unchanging in expression beyond a slight quirk of his lips.

His eyes darted back up.

"Down and down the Green one goes, where she'll stop, nobody knows..."

That was a little ominous. and he just let that hang there, keeping quiet beyond that.

With her meat devoured, she reached into the dish of fruit as her dessert, pulling out a piece of delicious banana. She looked at him curiously as he seemed amused by the term of their loose standing. Perhaps it was foolish of her to think that he'd ever allow a friend, but he never pushed her away. Well, blatantly at least. The throwing of a branch would be hint enough to anyone to get away in a hurry.

His next statement was even more perplexing. She thought on it as she popped that banana piece into her mouth. Of course she knew she was playing with fire by continuously hanging out with the naiad. He was off-kilter and devious to boot. As far as making friends go, she certainly did not choose wisely. This wasn't a pae her mother would approve of, in fact probably the exact opposite. Okeanos was the type of pae to actively avoid.

But she kind of liked that. They were both strange, if one more than the other. In an odd way that always brought her comfort, as his oddities made her feel normal. "Finding out is half the fun." She reached into the fruit bowl and tossed a piece of apple into her mouth. "'Sides, I don't have anything better to do."

Okeanos did not seem to be terribly interested in eating any of the desserts she brought out, not even paying attention to them.

Instead, he seemed more interested in figuring out what her move was going to be, watching as she carefully took the banana, split it into pieces, ate pieces of the banana, ate pieces of the apples. There was no hint on his face that he was anything but amused, a quirk on the side of his lips as he continued to let his dangerous, taunting statement hang in the air like an awkward fog that didn't know when to go away.

The response seemed to pique his interest enough to make him laugh, a brow quirking as his lips quirked just a little bit more. "Is that so?" His voice had a certain playful ring to it, eyes dancing in a way that might have been both familiar to Cressida and ... not.

"Perhaps I should find you something to do."

He leaned back, crossing one leg over the other, expression daring.

He was very...watchful all the sudden. Like watching her eat was the most fascinating thing on the isle. It was slightly unnerving. The naiad seemed happy at least, or so she thought. Figuring out Okeanos exact emotions was about as easy as throwing a dart blindfolded.

His statement made an eyebrow twitch up. He never before proposed to do anything. Mainly their visits were of her just showing up, talking aimlessly and then have her storm off in a tizzy. "What do you have in mind?" Somehow she felt like she would regret asking. Like she was about to stick her hand right into a burning fire.
