Ethiriel was quiet for a moment, staring just ahead rather than to Cruz or any of the silver that littered her room. She retaliated his squeeze with one of her own, her expression faltering for just a moment before she brought back her semi forced smile.
”Of course,” she said, finally turning back to Cruz’s direction. ”Sir Knight has provided me with whatever I could want. He has been kind.”

While he perhaps wasn't the best at reading discomfort through expression alone, the stiffness of Ethiriel's smile didn't go unnoticed. It caused the croc's own to waver. Cruz started with a soft mention, ”That's good,” he began, but it felt short and came out far more dampened than his chipper tone from before.
The mistletoe frei sucked on his teeth. She hadn't given him a straight answer earlier. Maybe it was because they were in such close proximity to her new guardian.
”Thiriel,” he spoke softly. It was a quiet request for honesty. ”Is he good? Do you like him?” Cruz brought both of her hands in his, adjusting their position so that they were facing each other even if she couldn't find his eyes. ”Do you like here?”

Cruz’s tone softened Ethiriel’s expression, and despite not being able to see him it was difficult to meet his gaze. She gently squeezed the croc’s hands as he took hers in his own, but yet she could still not meet his eyes.
”Y-yes,” she stumbled, her voice softer than intended. ”He is a good man. He takes care of me – it is nice here.”
Her eyes finally met one of the silver trinkets that adorned her wall. Ethiriel hadn’t lied to Cruz, not at all, but she couldn’t bring herself to burden him with her real sorrows, worries… the discomfort of living with someone who first compared you to a pet. He was a good man… she just couldn’t bring herself to like him. Not yet.
”How about you, my friend? How have you been?”

The change in her expression and voice put Cruz more at ease. Even with her stumbling words, they sounded genuine to the croc and he found no reason that Ethiriel would continue to dodge the subject when Henry wasn't in ear shot.
”Good,” he smiled, relief and contentment clear in his voice.
Cruz squeezed her hand back, keeping hers softly between both of his, and took care to tangle their fingers comfortably. ”Been nice,” he mused, ”Had a lot of fun at the boil. Sorry we didn't get to talk much. Wanted to see you more. Everything is kind of busy.”
He gave a hearty rumble as he pulled Eth's hand close enough to rest his chin upon her knuckles. ”Know where you are now, though. You're close by, Thiriel. Can see you more, if you want.”

Ethiriel visibly relaxed at Cruz’s comforting words and touch, and she closed her eyes as her hands were brought to his chin. She nodded at his suggestion – she would love to be around him more, he was one of her closest friends. Perhaps his company could help her gain composure over this new experience she was having.
”I would like that very much, Sir Cruz,” she said, nodding her head.
It wasn’t long before the two had made their way back into the living room with their respective guardians. Small chit chat took place amongst all of them, and while Ethiriel was still uncomfortable around Henry she did her best to play it cool for Cruz’s sake. The evening was nice and relaxed, hardly any tension in the room as the four of them enjoyed themselves.
