Dinner at a casino in Chicago, check. Awful traffic back, check. Argument between his father and grandmother, check. Every year it was like clockwork. Now had retreated to his room at last, the social requirement for the day fulfilled until it was time to watch the ball drop in New York City. Several hours of free time both relieved and bothered him.

Robotically he turned on the same things in order as he went in a circle around his room, in order of longest to boot to shortest: laptop, ps3, tv. While E! News' New Years Bash played in the background, he re-organized his tabs (all seventeen of them) and deleted several before finally logging in to his site, The 13th Gate.

Nothing. He mindlessly checked the boards for new posts as he reached for the remote and switched to the HDMI3 output. The sound of ritzy music and laughter was immediately silenced by the waiting PS3 menu. He put on Netflix and scrolled aimlessly through what was up as he heard fire crackers spit and hiss somewhere close by.

Something. There needs to be something, there has to be. The distractions from his painfully mundane life have been long since due. A story, made up or otherwise, could soothe him. The idea of human beings as the sole sentient creatures of the world was unthinkable. Remarkably close-minded. There are reasons certain places feel strange to the populace, he can feel it--something just beyond the grasp of mortal senses, buzzing in his head and other faint noises that sometimes conform to voices. There had to be a reason he heard them and saw things that weren't there; it couldn't be because he was mentally ill, and it couldn't be because he "saw only what he wanted to see" as his family had accused.

(They tell him he isn't special, and he finds it inconceivable. Every day he lives as a student in U of C is a day he ends in continual disappointment and existential blandness. In this life he is Dong-Ming Hawthorn, a junior majoring in bioengineering, another ******** smart Asian to add to the statistic, a guitarist and sometimes vocalist of a mediocre indie band, and most of all a young man chafing at how strict and organized his life has been, who sees nothing but the steel confines of his projected and perfect life ahead and almost feels like blowing someone's brains out just to shake it up.)

Turning to Family Guy for his brainless entertainment, he added his phone to the mix as the upbeat theme began.

[St Thomas' Hospital, London, United Kingdom] [10:37 PM]

Spending the last day of the year under admission in a hospital was not what Leon imagined happening.

"Babe, they are still running tests." he admitted sourly over the phone, pouting as if the other person could see it. The room itself wasn't bad, seeing the crowd over the River Thames and the giant London Eye setup was a feat to see from the window in the clean, disinfected room that smelled of hospital. He hated that smell, too much exposure to it now. The nurses were finally nice and managed to leave him alone and went back to their rounds.

"Well, head injuries are part of the profession." he sassed back with a smirk. "No you don't have to come out here, traffic is murder out there and go enjoy yourself, it’s a vacation for you after all." he insisted, not wanting to ruin the trip, even if it was a business one for himself. "I'll be fine, there are worse things I could be doing than the view from here and worrying over potential internal injuries after the bout. I could be doing more interviews." he whispered with a shudder and warmed a chuckle in his throat.

It was even nicer to hear it returned on the other line. “I’ll give you another call 5 before the eve, keep your phone handy." the In-fighter boxer requested after saying goodbye and placing the cell phone on the stand next to the hospital bed, and put the mask away.

It was an after match checkup, and the signs were there. Headaches, light sensitivity and he did not want to fall out on the floor again trying to go to the windows to take it in. his body felt like lead, a dragging feeling that make no sense how it could also feel like he was floating away on a dream. It was regretfully something commonplace after a bout, but not one of this magnitude. He kept the details away from his parents, the second opinion that he had available in his back pocket, there was no need to make them worry as well, as he was doing a fine enough job. Leon prayed it was only a mild concussion and not something more serious. Something heartbreaking. Something fatal to his career or himself in general.

So in the privacy of his hospital room, Leon cried silently, praying that 2015 was not the end of the road he paved for himself.

[ Imperial Theatre - New York City ] [ 10:59 PM ]

It wasn't his first standing ovation, but it was his first as Enjolras, and it was his first on Broadway. He'd come in as the rookie, stealing the part from a man who'd looked nothing like him. The dissonance between him and a sharp looking black man named Kyle left fans of his predecessor skeptical. It was an unexpected upset, then, when Robert found within him the spirit of the very first Enjolras ever performed on the Broadway stage. Michael Maguire had been his hero - he'd learned every song based off of that man's voice. And at the tender age of ten, before Robert had even considered a life on the stage, he'd seen Michael Maguire as Enjolras live on a field trip, and he could remember the man to this day.

The moment Robert had begun to sing, the audience, and even the cast, left their doubts behind.

He was sweating, and his stage makeup felt like it was melting, when he took that last bow and felt his heart leap into his throat as people stood up out of their seats and cheered his performance. He'd done this. After all this time, he'd gone from a nobody, to an off Broadway dancer, to that first big break as a lion in The Lion King, and then to this.

It was an hour until a new year approached, an entire year filled with performances just like this one. And yet, none would ever be like this one again, because this was his first. His first Enjolras, his first lead, his first dream achieved. His only dream achieved, but it was worth everything he'd sacrificed to get there. It had to be, because there was no looking back now.

This was the life he'd chosen. A life alone in a small, trendy looking apartment in New York City. A life apart from everyone he used to think meant everything to him. A life away from that little girl somewhere in Oklahoma who, according to her mother, he owed child support to every year. A life where people recognized him on the street and asked for his picture outside of the theatre, or left their number in the hopes that their night would end just a little better in his bed.

He'd chosen his dream, and followed it. And look where he was, he told himself. Standing on the stage on Broadway, in front of a crowd on it's feet, cheering for him. Just like he'd always wanted.

He committed the moment to memory, and tucked it away safely in his heart to relive in an hour, when he was alone out in the cold night air walking back to his apartment on New Years. He would use it to warm him, and listen to the cheering crowd only a block away as they all screamed a count down of seconds to another year disappearing behind them.

And he would remember that this was going to be his year. Everything led up to this moment, and he was here now. This year was his, and his alone.

It had to be a good one.

Her life was a whirlwind, but with all things considered, Clerise found that she couldn't complain. Not everyone got to travel the world in an internationally known show, let alone be a part of its main cast. Through the blood, sweat, and tears (so, so many tears), she had clawed her way into the one dream she'd ever had:

Being a star in Cirque du Soleil.

Clerise Nicole Wilson had a pretty badass lot in life, all things considered. A good family, in her cast, crew, Dad, and annoying brainiac cousin, and she she was viciously protective of them all. She ate out frequently, partied luxuriously, worked her a** off, and even had a few partners or more in every city she'd ever been in. Yes, her life was a good one, and she wouldn't trade it for a ******** thing.

There had only been a matinee today, thank god, so after the final encore, undressing, and clean up, it wasn't obscenely late, for once. A bunch of crew were hanging out at a local bar (or, in some cases, clubs of sexy designs), but Clerise had other plans. Shrugging into an overcoat, she made her way back to the hotel, ready to order in room service and be obscenely lavish.

That is, until her phone rang.

Dong Shu Lei

"Ahchoo~!" She rubbed her reddish nose with gloved hands. Already sometimes here, the petite Asian couldn't get used to the colder weather. The white smoke coming from her mouth as an attempt to warm them up failed, she cringed and squinted her eyes into thin lines. Below the opened window was the desk, besides some cute stationery, there were some framed photos. The girl picked up one of them, and a warm sweet smile appeared on her face, showing how important the people in it meant to her.

A rather tall and charming Asian with healthy tan figure smirking, on top of the short hair a pair of reindeer horns. To her left was the petite Asian with her long hair tied up in twin tails, making half of a heart shape. Next to her was a beautiful lady in long twin braids, making another half of the heart. They were in full festive spirit. There was a boy making an awkward shy smile, the black frame hung on his nose fitted him well. Half of the space behind them was filled up by a big Christmas tree, from the surrounding, others would tell it was a party at an office of some sort.

"Knock knock!" Someone was on the door. "Please come in, it's not locked." She put down the frame and turned around. "Lei, are you ready to go - Oh my, your nose is as red as Rudolph, I told you not to lie down on the snow." The girl entered sighed and checked on the Asian who excitedly mimicked a snow angel after seeing someone did yesterday, "Luckily not a fever. I will give you five minutes, get dressed and make sure you put on enough, they told us to get something to decorate the tree." The girl wrapped the long swinging scarf a few more rounds around the Asian's neck before she closed the door.

Sniffing, the petite Asian braced up with a face wash and put on a light brown pullover, a skirt, a pair of knitted leggings and an overcoat. The fluffy earmuffs that protecting her ears was a birthday present from her brother while the hooded scarf, present from her dearest sisters.

She was still sneezing when they were on the street, the glasses on her nose slid. On the last day of 2014, she was gonna sneezing and sniffing her nose. She was gonna talk to her siblings over the net and wish 2015 would be a good year for them. Each week, she would chat to them over the net, her sisters would tell her that her brother got confessed by girls again while asking her life over there and whether she needed anything.

A new year party organized by the dorm people was gonna be great.......if her condition didn't get worse.
