"I'm, I'm definitely looking forward to it I just... I'm kinda spooked I'm going to do something disastrous like step on your dress or your foot or something otherwise 'Bull in China shop" He joked, tapping the mask on the nose."

He smiled again, relaxing a little as he added. "It's a gorgeous mask, looks even better on you.And you're only a moth for tonight. If anything they'd probably be attracted to you in the park." He joked, hoping to make her feel better. She looked like a star, or a softly glowing moon to him. Probably what many people thought. She looked like she'd been born to wear that uniform.

"Shall we?" He asked, offering her his arm.

Vanhi Talwar was seriously doubting her own intelligence for coming, even though it was a stunning event. It made her feel quite self conscious of her own outfit, an simple, form fitting affair of deep burgundy velvet she thought looked well with both her hair and eyes, not an easy feat, and her low black flats were good for.... well... she figured she was prepared for any problems. Her vibrant magenta hair was done up in a bun with a cz comb, and she wore a matching bracelet and anklet. Not as sparkly or amazing as some, but she was on the younger end of the guests, and maybe it was better to be outshone by older people.

She smiled politely as she collected a mask at the door, stepping inside to get out of the way before she examined it.
It was a pretty enough mask, jewel beetle green with black lace and a froth of black trim, but she was pretty sure it looked pretty awful on her as she slipped it on, grateful for the anonymity, and the camera options on her cell phone and the portable camera she'd slipped into her clutch. Which she had no intention of un-clutching any time soon.

Destiny City events tended to be newsworthy, and she was hoping to use this one as a leg up to her inevitable career.

No pets allowed. Service animals only.

Lucasta considered the sign for all of two seconds before lifting her head high and deciding it didn't apply to her. She was no one's pet. Plus, she was performing a service. She was a Guardian, and as a Guardian she had a duty to uphold, and if there was going to be a large gathering of the city's population during a time of day that seemed to see an increase in Negaverse activity, then she was going to scope it out in an effort to do said duty.

Besides, there were so many people coming and going that it was easy for her to slip between and around legs and make her way unnoticed into the hotel.

She skulked along the edges, as far from any of the hotel staff as she could manage, eyeing the people as they filtered into the place. She was looking for one person in particular, but remained unsure as to whether the girl with the golden hair was in a position to attend. Certainly it wouldn't hurt to look. She would be in and out before anyone deemed her a nuisance.

Coming to the entrance of a ballroom, Lucasta noted the number of masks being handed out to the public. How curious. She found one upon the floor where it had been dropped and trampled, sniffing at it and finding that it didn't smell too unappealing. The feathers in particular were a nice touch. Grabbing the mask between her teeth, Lucasta carried it with her as she made her way into the ballroom. She found a nice table packed with food and ducked under it with her prize.

Here she'd have a good vantage point from which to observe the entire room.

Lucasta picked up a blue mask someone dropped on the floor.

Jeanne would not normally have attended a fancy ball - these sort of events weren't exactly her style, "her style" being far more towards hunting officers than schmnoozing, but Luca had asked, and she was willing to go out of her way for one of her girlfriends.

She had never meant an event she didn't want to scandalize, and that was probably why she'd chosen a dress that was best described as "champagne bubbly." She checked herself in and acquired a lovely, elegant glittered yellow mask with a feather on one side, which she felt matched well with her dress - pretty fortunate for her, because there were colors that would have been much less appealing.

She looked for Luca, because even with a mask on she was pretty sure she could recognize her girlfriend - and when she spotted her in her lovely blue dress, she sashayed over and rested a hand on her shoulder.

"Havin' a good evenin' so far, mademoiselle?"

A large, dramatic party was exactly where Alistair wanted to be. Particularly since he had heard it was a masque - if nothing else, because it gave him a very good excuse to be very dramatic. He had gotten together a fairly good approximation of the Red Death outfit from Phantom of the Opera, and though he had not gotten Lance into a similarly-themed outfit, he was glad enough that his fiance was with him.

He took the mask offered to him - ironically enough, a black version of the Phantom's mask - and settled it on his face. "Well. This should be an interesting night, don't you think?"

Avacyn wanted to pretend she was playing coy, or something, but really the reason she was practically wrapping her arms around one of Arilee's was because she was terrified. Lots and lots of people, lots and lots of things, and it was just...scary. She reached down and smoothed her dress a little, giving him a small whimper. "Oh gosh, this is...really big..." She said, as she accepted her deep red mask and carefully settled it on her face.

"Maybe it'll be fun, though?"

Clarisse flashed Quinn a smile. Big, fancy events weren't usually her forte, but getting to put on a fancy dress and an elegant mask and go somewhere with her girlfriend was sort of a dream come true. Even...well, even if she was pretty sure there was something going on, because she had gotten a different mask than everyone else had, and she knew other officers had too - and gotten one for Quinn, as well, through the conceit of getting Gabriel to take one for her and then leave because large events were literally the opposite of his thing.

"I don't know what's going on, really," she admitted, offering the taller girl a black mask, "but I think...I think we're gonna need these."

Getting to this ball had been nothing short of a nightmare. Even with her big brother Michael to act as her 'escort', her dad had still been suspicious about easing up enough to let her come to this thing. But come on, it was literally the event of the year, and... and man did it feel good, so normal, battling with her father on the length and cut of her dress instead of her "terrorist" brainwashing or whatever he thought it was.

This was a normal party, she thought to herself, closing her eyes at the entryway and allowing the sound of music to wash over her. Back to her roots, what made Natalie before everything had left her so mixed up and grounded for a solid three months. She had settled on a nice light blue, sleeveless dress that she had only managed to sneak past her father under a cardigan, quickly discarded in her brother's car. (She was seventeen now for god's sakes; she hadn't even gotten a birthday party this year, so she was going to live it up twice as hard!)

Luckily for her, even if Michael seemed like a hard a**, he was sweet on her and she knew it. With a secretive smile, before they'd stepped out of the car, he'd handed her a pair of elbow length gloves to cover the bandages and the still-healing burns. "You better not cause problems for me, " he warned her in a mock-snarl as he forked over $20 for each of them.

"Love you too, " she teased as she leaned up, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek before grabbing a gorgeous green mask and ducking into the crowds. Honestly, the kid's room was actually vaguely tempting -- video games! -- but she was here to dance, make some new friends, and maybe meet someone special. ... then maybe she could go play some Playstation or something. Not totally ruling it out!

Alexandre had heard about the ball and just as important was the price he'd heard about. The price was lower than he thought it should be for such an event, especially with how much the hotel must be spending, but it also meant it was open to everyone - how lovely. Rolling his eyes as he stepped into the hotels ballroom and spied a desk full of masks but ignored them, as he had come with his own that was held at his side in his right hand. He'd already paid his money, which would go to some charity, and been welcomed by hotel's staff who seemed designated just to work this event. He was sure the hotel had everyone working for them working tonight due to this event.

Looking out over those gathered in the ballroom, the more proper of the three, the ashen blond fixed his mask into place before joining the people in the room. Dressed in black and an off white, light creme, color Alexandre didn't want to go for something too over the top. It wouldn't do to be dressed so over the top, in case he ran into someone he knew who dragged him to the ballroom up on the third floor; it wouldn't do at all.

Fingers ran through his hair while he wondered if Lily would kill him, later, for the spam of photos he'd be texting her of this event. She was at home sick, the flu, and Xander was at home tending to her. So he'd decided, without telling either of them, that he would be sending them a flurry of photos of the event. He hadn't even told either of the siblings that he was coming to this event. Resting his right hand, briefly, on his back pocket where his cell phone was located Alexandre knew he'd be checking it all night, as well as grabbing his phone for pictures and then tucking it back into the pocket. How odd it might look to some whilst others would understand and know just what he was doing.

A glance about and the blond headed off to find food or something to occupy himself with until he found something else to occupy his attention, be it a person he knew or someone he didn't know or some sort of event.

This was not something she'd normally do, far from it in fact, but she had seen the flyers everywhere and customers at work had been talking about it so much, as well as co-workers. it was that and her curiosity which had brought her to this event, as well as the entrance fee being cheap and for a good cause. Had it been much more expensive Winterlynn would not have been here standing at a table and grabbing a beautifully done orange mask. Orange was not a color she'd normally wear but the crystals on it and the feathers made it too lovely to pass up, and she didn't see any masks of the same design in another color.

She wasn't looking to be social so once she was passed the counter with the masks she was headed off to get a drink, maybe some white wine or champagne, and find a table in some corner away from people. She was not planning to be social tonight, unless of course some co-worker found her here and decided they should be social. If it were some customer she was sure she knew she could pretend she didn't remember them, if they weren't' a regular, but she also knew it was unlikely that she'd do that - bad for business. It would look better, and likely bring the customer back to the jewelry store she worked at, if she remembered them and things they'd discussed and what they'd bought or been looking at. Damn, she might really have to be social.

Dressed for the cold, at least she felt she was, the dark haired Russian girl was dressed in a long, light grey, sweater dress with a cowl neck. The long sleeved dress was accented by white gold and aquamarine jewelry along with a pendant in the shape of a snowflake that was done with tiny aquamarines. For boots she'd done something which lacked a heel, no sense in heels if she was going to be on her feet for hours, that came up to just be low her knees in a black color. The boots laced up rather than zipped up, like most boots did, and between dress and boots most of her legs were covered and kept protected from the cold winds of winter.

Still looking for drinks she moved between two people, having to pass through them sideways, as she continued on her search for a drink and an out of the way table.

Ian had not planned on going, why would he? This was far from his sort of social scene. In fact, this was so far from it that he was sure he would be uncomfortable enough within an hour that he'd go home, he really felt uncomfortable in social settings and here he was anyway. Not for the first time tonight he did mentally curse his friends and that he'd given in, why had he given in so easily? Shaking his head he toyed with the piercings in his lip as he quickly, wanting to retreat to some dark place as soon as possible, grabbed up a blue mask and placed it on his face.

The main ballroom, on the second floor, he determined wasn't his scene at first glance. He had glanced it over and seeing the setting and the people there he knew it wasn't his scene, not that any of this was his scene. Deciding to try the third floor, having actually listened to the hotel staff, he figured that might be a little closer to what he could deal with.

Turning around he exited the first ballroom and headed for the elevator down the hall and pressed the button to call for the elevator. Once it did arrive, letting more people off, all destined for the ballroom he'd just come from, he stepped inside and pressed the button for the third floor. While he waited for the doors to close he slipped into a corner of the elevator and pressed his back to the wall of the metal box that would take him up a floor. As the doors slid closed, and thankfully no one had joined him on the elevator, he let out a sigh. he hated having people in elevators with him, too silent and it felt like you should talk but he also always hoped he wouldn't be talked to. Shaking his head he stepped out of the elevator moments later when it finally stopped and the doors opened with a ding.

He could hear the music already, was that a good thing? He figured it was an indicator to the party atmosphere he'd be entering in a few moments as he was already headed toward the party.

Quenton Marinus - 8 - White Mask

The delivery of boxes were always suspect, and always from Stroud. Always something posh, usually clothes or accessories, out of his usual means or comfort level and mostly attached to some personal agenda of hers. Stroud's agenda's were never in the best of taste. He put it aside at first, on the table of shining copper coins, to be dealt with later, but an envelope came off from the bottom to the floor -

Do come to the gala. You'll look fabulous. Consider it a treat for graduation.
-S.

The Gala? Faust has been going on about that. This doesn't look like a tuxedo box. Isn't it black tie? I don't exactly have time or money for dealing with rentals. And wouldn't it just end up like the Eclipse, with some strange magic about them all? Or the convention? Or Fate's opening? Every time I've been at a large gathering of people, something always goes wrong without fail.

Faust wants to look for scouts to awaken. Those people will be in danger just by gathering at a public function. Why is this happening. "Faust! We're going," he called back towards the bed and pillow. He could probably argue the fluffbucket as ESA to get him in. "But you have to wear a tie."

----------------

At the doors to the gala, the steady stream of people into the venue was just one more source of dread. White mask offered from a doorman in an appropriate suit and vest, Quenton donned it over his veil and ruffled french-tipped nails into his overheavy black stole. The shoes Stroud had sent were no sort for dancing, so he stayed to the cocktail and gnoshing floor.

At least he was tall enough to spot his cousin and avoid her if she showed. He intoned softly to the Mauvian, "You might need to check each floor."

"No way!" Laney argued with ardent sincerity. "You're great, you'll be great. I've seen you fight before." Not in the present, certainly -- but in the future. She could still remember it. She swished an imaginary cape through the air. Her right hand was nearly healed, but she still had to wear bandages that limited her mobility a little. "Graceful as a matador." She smiled reassuringly. "When you're not overthinking it, it comes naturally to you. If anyone's stepping on any feet, I call dibs."

So saying, she looped her arm through his. It was warm, and a phantom tingle went up through her fingertips, making her blush just a little and forget for a moment what she'd been saying. "A-alright, so, um, scavenger hunt to find all seven chocolate fountains? We should probably poison test them to make sure they're okay, just in case. ...Oh, uh, I mean, if you like chocolate, that is. I didn't even ask. Sorry! Do you?"

Chiku was more than a little giddy. She wasn't normally one for fancy stuff and dressing up, but a masquerade? She was totally up for that, heck yeah! She bounced through the entrance in her minty, ruffly dress, donning the mask she been given beforehand. She had a feeling this was going to be more than just a party...but she hoped it was just a party!

After talking with staff about what was what, she decided to head to the third ballroom. Because it sounded like that was where the good music and dancing would be. And if there was one thing Chiku loved, it was music and dancing. She was gonna cut all the rugs. All of them!
Chiku Ajali - Black Mask [Nega], Ballroom 3

Kaida accepted the mask she was given with a smile and curtsy before making her way inside, putting the red item on carefully. Though she intended to check out the third ballroom later, the first was definitely a good place to start. It was full of gorgeous outfits and, hopefully, not a trace of her parents. While she wouldn't mind seeing her father, she didn't want to run into her mother just yet. Not after their last argument.

She loved the woman, but they rarely saw eye-to-eye, and she doubted her conservative mother would approve of her fancy outfit that night. Well excuse her for being comfy in her own skin, and flashy was something of a way of life for her, seeing as she was a burlesque dancer for a living.

Her thoughts were interrupted when she ran into someone, the woman squeaking as she stumbled back a couple of steps. "Oh! I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" Totally not a needed question, but old habits died hard.

Bailey was more than a little excited. She was getting to dress up in a pretty, sparkly dress, with her hair done up like a grown-up, and she even had lip stain on under her lip gloss! She took the orange mask she was given and followed Red to the second ballroom as she put the item on. She would have stayed near Reed if she hadn't seen someone she recognized. Because mask or not, she would always recognize Daniel.

"Daniel!" She shimmied over to her best friend, hugging him tightly and then making a face. "What did they do to your hair? I have a comb with me if you want me to fix it?" Really, what HAD they done to his hair?

It had taken some work, OK a lot of work, but Chailee had managed to convince her parents to let her attend the New Years Eve Ball. Both of her parents had been uneasy about the idea but couldn't say no to their daughters pleas. After all she was a 14 year old seeking some independence and what could possibly go wrong at an event such as this? A Masquerade ball wasn't something that would get -too- rowdy.

So Chailee found herself walking into the building with some money in a small clutch and a champagne colored cocktail dress with sequins and tulle that she and her mother had agreed upon. For a change she wasn't wearing her star necklace but had opted for a short simple pearl necklace and earrings. The dress was more than enough of a statement by itself.

She paid her $10 entrance fee and took the mask offered to her. Orange. She wrinkled her nose a bit. Certainly not a color she would have picked herself, but she put it on. Adjusting the elastic strap so that it didn't squish her hair that she had opted to leave down with a gold glitter headband in took a bit of time. Once sure she had everything aligned though she moved a little further into the building.

But now which room should she head to? Where would others around her age be if there were any? "I won't even be able to tell if I know anyone here because of these masks." She sighed, now a little unsure of herself. Her right hand idly played with the tulle of her skirt as she looked around trying to make a decision on where to go.

Oh look, another holiday party. How trite.

Suri was done with the season and its trappings, the briskness of the weather, the gatherings of families. All this hustle and bustle tore into her training, her harvesting, and for what? A commercial holiday? She was exhausted, yes, but better to keep moving than to pause and allow whatever dark thoughts following her to catch up and swallow her whole. Being powered down on a night when she could have been patrolling the streets left the pale woman with an itch she couldn't seem to satisfy, as if chaos itself was bubbling just beneath her glamour.

However, when a General left you a dress and an invitation, one could not simply refuse. Nevertheless, Suri did her best not to imagine how her measurements had been taken so accurately.

Dressed to the nines in a savvy red-white drape of silk and satin, Suri received her mask with a silent nod, a thin little thing made of wire and black feathers. She pinned the mask to her face before entering the ballroom, taking a sweep of the varied and motley assortment in the crowd. Her eyes settled on no one in particular, most of them strangers under the disguises they wore, but after a moment's assessment Suri found herself drawn towards a waiter carrying a tray full of fluted champagne glasses. The woman plucked a glass away the same way a thief might grab at a purse, then retreated to the walls, staying small as she searched for kindred conversation.

"I'll let you call dibs on that and do my best." He promised with a chuckle. He still wasn't so sure. "And I think that sound like a fantastic scavenger hunt. And I like chocolate just fine. I mean I've never seen a chocolate fountain before either so this should be pretty crazy. I mean... most of my experience with chocolate has been chocolate bars or hot chocolate."

He tucked it behind his ear though to remember. There were chocolate shops in DC, he was pretty sure that might be good to remember. Not that he thought he could arrange an chocolate fountain but..

"How's your hand doing by the way?"

He didn't want to make a fuss but honestly he knew damn well he might well go a bit mother hen on her. He expected to get hurt, but it was hard not to fuss when other people did, even though he knew it was entirely unreasonable to pretend he could be a damage magnet and save everyone else the trouble.

Faust was fairly convinced that Quenton absolutely lost his mind when he saw the strange and incredibly scanty outfit he donned for the occasion. The Mauvian expected a tuxedo, or obstinately remaining in his everyday wear, but to see him in some jacked up avant garde see-through thing with a... some other thing on top of it and something eating his face, it looked like a pretentious artsy declaration on suicide by bagging one's head.

And the shoes... Those looked ready and willing to permanently cripple a Mauvian if Quenton was too distracted to watch where he stepped.

Faust wasn't pleased at the declaration that he must don a tie, as the feline was perfectly content going as naked as he could possibly muster. However, he was starting to adjust to the plethora of strange demands that the blonde insisted upon for some strange sense of satisfaction. This behavior surfaced before, and not simply with crafting weird items for the Mauvian to wear - sometimes Quenton's feverish urges consisted of piling objects on Faust's fluff until the cat finally got up and left, or trying to bribe him into doing tricks like a typical house cat would, or even just posing for long hours of drawings.

Faust was starting to wonder if Quenton lost his marbles from getting hit in the head one too many times.

They arrived without consequence though, and the gruff feline clambered and struggled greatly to stay wrapped around the sculptor's wrist. Between fluff and kitty bean paws, though, he couldn't find much purchase. And after some persuasion that Faust was indeed a therapy cat, the two gained passage and Faust swiped a mask to hide the star on his forehead before anyone took notice.

Finally Faust climbed up the length of Quenton's arm to sit atop shoulders that gave him a healthy vantage point. "Your cousin's damn crazy," he mumbled back, and afterward grunted as any cat would. He surveyed the vast expanse of people swathed in their own equally strange garb, and after a while of taking stock of his surroundings, Faust pawed clawless at Quenton's face.

"Yo, that one over there. In the uh.... Yellow dress thing. Let's go talk to her. I gotta good feeling, maybe."

“I figured I would be,” Chris responded as he pulled his own green mask over his face, glancing down at Paris with a resigned smile. They were there to have fun after all. And while he was definitely not the most graceful, he at least knew his way around a foxtrot and waltz. It was obvious that he matched her, as she was wont to do when she picked out what they were both wearing. He wore a black suit, but his vest and tie were ivory.

The only thing that really gave them any color were the set of blue roses they each had. A boutonniere in his jacket pocket consisting of a small blue rosebud, and a fuller bloom that had been set on Paris’s wrist before they left the house that evening. "Do you know anyone else who's coming? I guess it'll be a surprise since no one can really recognize each other with masks..." he wondered, glancing around to the people filing in. And there were three ballrooms? Hopefully they wouldn't get separated.

Rhiannon, who lucked out in living with her aunt after practically running away from her dead-beat mother, could have easily been considered white trash depending on who was being asked. She arrived with her cousin, as inseparable as they had been when they were younger, she felt as though they were still a bit estranged now, despite the apologies and forgiveness given.

She wore a blue, green, and everything in between peacock inspired evening gown. It was a little over the top even for her, and she preferred something much shorter to the length of the gown, but figured it would do. The black mask she received, on the other hand… that was not going to work at all.

“You’d look better in this,” she insisted, handing her mask over to Chris, and holding out her hands for the green one he wore. He looked a little surprised that she would want to switch, but did it anyway. She was too pale to wear black, anyway.

And as much as she would love to hang out around the married couple, she made a gesture towards the drinks as if to let Paris know where she was going, before heading that way. She was sure to find a nice wall where she could sneak out her book to read...
