"Yes and no." She could imagine Lex giving her a look at that answer. "If I have any gray hairs coming in, I'm going up one side of him and down the other." She hummed a bit. "How do you define...actually related to?" She asked curiously, and then shook her head a bit. "If you felt close to them...I think it's a good way to describe it."

"Curiosity..." Claude echoed. She listened to him, mulling over this rather, for a lack of better words, 'throw everything to the wind' reason. "You didn't try anything else before Deus?" She asked, and her tone was non-accusing, just curious. "This was a one way ticket if I've ever seen one...and it feels like a last case affair." The trainee pause for a moment before also asking:

"You have anything to drink on hand?"

"Older or younger?" Chance asked. He tried to conceal his smile at the next question, but failed miserably, instead laughing as he shook his head. "I'm not close to anyone. There are people that I know, and that's about it. And the boys in the home were just that - boys. They were just there, I was never really close with any of them. Sometimes we helped each other out, sometimes we didn't. All depended on how we felt that day."

He lowered his hand from his hair and instead rested his arm across his knee, looking somewhat amused. "Not really," Chance answered. "I was a bookstore clerk and that's about as much as I had in mind before I came here. I told you already I like what I like, and that isn't just limited to people or to things, but to life as well. My philosophy is just to...do what it is that I can with what I have."

He shrugged one shoulder. "I didn't have anything special in my previous life, and this was much more interesting to me, so I figured why the hell not?"

At Claude's inquiry, the corners of his lips quirked upwards a little. "Under the bed," he said mildly. "There's a half full bottle of bourbon I think still."

"He's older." She answered, and a brow arched as he laughed, wondering what was so humorous. Curious. Not close to anyone...though she couldn't rebuff that, because if she didn't have Lex...she'd be in the same boat...and now, she couldn't imagine not having Lex, and she couldn't imagine being in Chance's shoes, either. No ties...

"No friends?" She asked after a moment, after he spoke about his 'brothers', though now, she'd say they really weren't brothers, not to her, anyways. Claude nodded her head a bit, not disagreeing with him, but it did have her thinking. Wondering, too. She couldn't recall the last time she'd been this curious...aside from poking her nose into Lex's business of course. "Fair enough..." She wanted to ask him something, theoretical, of course, but she held off for now, and chuckled.

"Would you believe by asking that, for once, that I wasn't looking for liquor?" She was not going to turn it down though. She slid off the bed to kneel on the ground, not one bit hesitant to reach under the bed to search. Her rings clanked on glass, and she grasped the bottle. Claude stood, and reclaimed her spot on the edge of his bed, looking over the bourbon before looking back at Chance.

"Got any glasses, or are we swigging it?"

He made a noncommittal sound in the back of his throat, but it wasn't from a lack of interest. Chance's smile was a mixture of amusement and lightheartedness as he said, "I'm not actually sure what qualifies as friends, really. I have people I like to hang out with, does that count?"

He'd never been the emotional sort, or the type to even understand relationships in general. Chance laughed.

"Aren't you a pirate? You're always supposed to have rum," he said grandly, as Claude pulled the bottle out. Shrugging his shoulders, he gestured for her to hand him the bottle, patting the spot beside him on the bed as he leaned back against the wall.

"Glasses are for weaklings," said Chance with a slight smirk. "Also this is going to sound like a weird request, but if you could just reach into the top drawer of my desk, there's a little bag there with some stuff in it; hand it to me?"

She was amused, but also pleased to be having this conversation with someone who wasn't her brother. "Yeah, it does." Claude replied with a nod, and then pointed a finger at him, her expression going flat. "We're friends." She dead panned at him. "If you want some logic, here it is: I don't seek people out or talk to them this much if I didn't like them."

So there.

She raised her hands in surrender, the bottle as well, and hunched her shoulders a bit. "You got me there...but trust me, my room is well supplied." Claude then handed him the bottle, and got up to go to his side before pausing, smirking a bit. Glasses for weaklings indeed. "It's only weird if the contents of the bag warrant it to be." The trainee did as instructed, pulling out the little bag and sliding the drawer closed after. She then took her new spot on the bed, settling next to Chance and leaning against the wall, holding the bag up and out to him as well.

His eyebrows rose, Chance giving Claude a contemplative sort of look. "So..." he said slowly, as though attempting to understand a concept he didn't quite follow. "So that makes us friends. Well, I like hanging with you too," he said finally, almost triumphantly. It sounded like he'd figured out some sort of hidden meaning to things. "We're cool bros."

A pause. He was smiling at her as he dug around in his pocket, pulling out a set of keys that he used to pry open the bottle cap again. Chance took a swig, wiped his mouth on the back of his hand, and then passed the bottle back to Claude in exchange for the bag she handed him.

"Thank you," he said mildly, and dug around in the bag, pulling out...a small bottle of black nailpolish, which he shook in one hand.

"I was getting bored of my hands being plain," Chance said, by way of explanation as he unscrewed the top. "Okay, so if we're friends, tell me more friend type things about yourself, Captain Claude."

There was something comical about this entire situation, which was heightened by how contemplative and accepting Chance was. Claude felt pleased though. She hadn't felt this at ease and comfortable in a long time, much less with someone who wasn't Lex. She let out an amused snort. "Bros." She echoed, almost in disbelief that the term was used.

She took the bottle when it was offered, and paused. "Where's your mouth been, Chance?" She teased, before she took a swig of the bottle as well, and continued to hold onto it since Chance had the bag. She kept the bottle between the two of them though, in case he wanted to take another drink. She watched with mild interest as he revealed what was in the bag, and smirked lightly. "Fair enough." She replied. "You could get a paint brush and add tiny constellations on top too." She said it to tease...but maybe it wasn't a bad idea either.

She chuckled again, and let out a thoughtful hum. Honestly, she never been in this position before, so as to what she talked about next, she had to ponder. "Alright...but you'll have to return the favor." She was silent for a moment longer before she started. "I'm twenty. My favorite color is red...if you couldn't tell." She fingered the scarf wrapped around the top of her head. "My favorite fruit is pineapple..." She paused again, deciding that maybe this stuff was boring, and tried digger deeper. "My favorite place to be is in the Caribbean, and I've been to many of the islands...this one doesn't count though. There's nothing peaceful about this one. My father owns a house in the Caribbean, so I spent a lot of my summers there growing up."

She looked to him now, waiting. A little bit for a little bit.

Chance slumped against the wall, grinning lazily up at Claude.

"Well, if you can think of a better term for it, then just tell me," he said. "And as for where my mouth's been, well..." A long, deliberate pause. Chance's grin turned into a smirk. "Wouldn't you like to know, oh captain my captain."

He was obviously teasing her and having a fun time doing it, too. Chance tapped the brush against the side of the bottle and extended one hand to rest on his raised knee, starting with his index finger first and swiping the nail polish carefully across one fingernail.

"Totally doing that," he said with approval, moving onto the second finger once he was satisfied with the first.

Chance had no idea what to talk about either, other than what he'd already talked about. But this sort of thing was easier when there was banter back and forth. He gave a nod as he listened, his strokes careful and even as he dipped the brush back into the bottle and pulled it back out again.

"I'm twenty-two," he said, once she was finished. "My favorite color is probably turquoise, though I tend to just like all shades of blue. My favorite fruit is that I don't have a favorite. I like spicy foods, so curry is up there in my favorites. My favorite place was probably the bookstore I worked, but right now is kind of up in the air."

His eyes moved towards hers, a smile on his face. "I've never been out of Detroit except for now, so this is the first island I've been to."

She snorted again, but honestly had nothing to offer. Any word she could think of off hand was just as bad or worse than bros. Besties...yeah...she'd just leave it as is. "Or maybe I...don't want to know..." Claude trailed off for a moment before she raised the bottle and tipped her head to him. "Good thing alcohol kills germs." She teased, and then took another swig. She watched him paint his nails with skilled ease, and chuckled. Probably turquoise...She gave a nod of her head. "I do like curry as well..."

Wow...never left Detroit, huh? She couldn't imagine staying in one place for...well...twenty-two years. "That's one good thing about Deus." She started. "Leave. You should make a list of places you want to go, and take advantage of it...portals do make traveling a hell of a lot easier...when you got the time." Claude stretched out her legs in front of her before crossing them on the bed. "Like...Mister Constellation...make a trip to the best place on Earth to see the stars."

Chance just smiled benignly at Claude. "Don't worry," he said, waving his free hand. "It's been long enough that you don't have to worry about anything catching."

He was still teasing. Laughter was hidden in the tone of his voice, and Chance slid the brush over his pinky nail, using his free hand to wipe away the excess polish. "I'll make you curry sometime," he said grandly. "It'll be a nice, totally messy food experience for all."

She was right, of course; he could go places now that he was not obligated to remain in a bookstore and stuck in an apartment for hours. Chance gave a little hum.

"Where exactly is the best place on earth to see stars?"

Claude snorted, and the hand that wasn't holding the bottle came up to cover the lower half of her face briefly. Her amused smirk could be seen between her fingers. She had nothing more to add to that, and just shook her head a bit, still smirking, as she took another swig from the bottle. She then blinked, looking genuinely surprised by this pleasant offer. "How kind of you." She said after a moment. "I look forward to it.

Her smirk returned though. "This I actually know. The Atacama Desert in Chile. There's hotels as well, if you wanted to make more than a day, or night, of it. Also...and I'm not saying this out of bias, but the Caribbean sea is a good place as well." She wasn't sure about this Island though...unless it was from the top of the mountain, maybe, but that defeated the purpose of going off Island.

"If we ever go on a mission that just really and totally sucks a**," said Chance, reaching for the bottle with his not painted hand and taking a swallow. He wiped his mouth before continuing, "Just come by, you don't even have to let me know beforehand. We'll have ourselves a curry party."

He handed the bottle back to Claude and returned his attentions to his nails, finishing off his pinky finger and then waving his hand to air dry it. "I've never been anywhere, like I said," he mused aloud. "But I think Chile would be pretty nice."

His gaze slid sideways, amusement in his voice as he said, "And the Caribbean sounds pretty awesome, I could go find the Black Pearl or something."

"That seems inevitable...it's only a matter of when." She had...something to look forward to. "The spicier the better, right? Chance, if I'm not in tears by the end..." Her lips quirked up. She took the bottle back and nodded. "That must be exciting." She mused. "The next place you go, as long as it's not Detroit...will be new..." She looked over at him, and when he brought up the Black Pearl, an elbow reached up to lightly jab him in the side, painting his nails be damned.

"You can't find it before me." She challenged, playfully, and took another swig from the bottle before setting it down between them, done with it. No need to drain his bottle dry. "So we talked about what we wanted from Santa..." Her lips quirked up again. "Got any New Year resolutions?"

"Spice is the spice of life, after all," said Chance grandly, waving his newly painted hand around. "I expect you fully to be in tears by the end, though whether it's actually from the curry remains to be seen."

The smirk was still on his face even as Claude elbowed him. "Fine, I'll bring you along."

He switched hands - the left was now mostly dry - and began painting the nails of his other hand, giving a little hum of thought. "Not in the slightest," said Chance truthfully. "I'm not big on regrets, so I don't really have anything that comes to the top of my head. I just like things that I like."

His eyes flickered toward Claude.

"You?"

There had been a smirk on her face, and it then it disappeared completely as she turned her head to stare at him. "Why, if not because of the curry" She then narrowed her eyes at him. What are you saying, Chance?

Regardless, she snorted again, and pointed a finger at him.

"You're forgetting your place, cabana boy."

She lowered her hand. "I think it doesn't have to do with regrets...just things you want to try and do." Claude trailed off for a moment. "You wanted an interesting life for Christmas...that's a resolution too. Live an interesting life."

The trainee hummed softly for a moment.

"Blaze my own path."
