Onora was getting the broth together as she heard the skin of the vegetables being peeled. It had been a couple mins before she finished and turned to see Vodyanoi poking the fat-bellied fish with the knife. She gave out a hearty chuckle as she wiped her hands on the apron-like cloth around her waist. You've gotta scale it and then cut right here. She said, pointing to a spot right under the gills. She grabbed the knife from him and began to hold it against the fish. If ye hold it like this, and then push away to the tail, most to all of the scales will come off. She demonstraited before handing the tool back.
Time went by and soon the food was simmering. Onora wiped her hands one more time before huffing. Ahhh, that was fun. And soon we'll smell the herbs and veggies with it. She said as she closed her eyes and took a deep inhale. When she opened them, she stared at Vodyanoi. So, are you ever going to make fish again?? She said with a slight giggle. He actually did an exceptional job once he got the hang of it. She wouldn't mind trying his food one of these days.Stereochrome Okay it is time to get my stuffs together lol let's finish this rp! lolol

MissBelikov yeeey the rp that makes me super hungry all the time o o Ao ok i think they didn't introduce themselves... but if they did ignore that part, lol. The whole fish thing was somehow simultaneously more complicated and less gross than he expected it to be. The girl had scaled one side for him and left him to struggle through the other, fumbling to keep his fingers safe between the sharp knife and the slippery fish. When he was through he had glittery fish scales all over his fingers -- and then he had to clean out the guts! But despite being disconcertingly slimy for a first-time fish cook, they didn’t smell all that bad, and once the thing was sizzling in the pan he had long since forgiven all of the difficulty. It smelled delicious!
With all the ingredients prepped, he tried to stay out of the way as the other water earthling cooked the meal. Her movements were easy and fluid, and she seemed to do a lot of things by smell alone, detecting when the fish was cooked on one side or when the veggies needed mixing.
“Of course!” He grinned sheepishly when she asked him about cooking fish. “I mean, I don’t think I could ever be as good as you, but I wanna… you know, learn how to do things the Matori way. Cook, and catch fish, and that sort of thing. Without all that I… don’t really feel like I belong, you know? I just feel like a stranger here, even though it’s supposed to be my homeland.”
He shrugged a little, not wanting to sound too mopey. “But I’m getting better at all of that. Thanks to people like you, mostly, who are willing to show me how things work. Even when I… mess up a little.”
The boy giggled, then looked up again. “I don’t even know your name, y’know. I’m Vodyanoi.”

Onora smiled as she heard him talk about fitting back in with his homeland. Her back was still turned to the food but she spoke warmly. Just because you don't know the ways here, doesn't mean you're a stranger. Though I understand what ya meant. A small chuckle escaped her lips as she finished the last step to the food.
As she separated them for the neighbors, she left two larger sized pieces for her and Vod on a leaf, acting as a plate. Her fingers rolled the extras up and tied them tightly before she turned to Vodyanoi, completely forgetting that she never introduced herself.
She forgot the argument didn't let them speak calmly, so when she heard his name she gave a laugh so hard, she clenched her sides. I'm so sorry, I'm not laughin at you. I just can't believe I didn't even know your name. She said in between laughs. She calmed down a bit and smiled a toothy grin. I'm Onora. Sorry we never got the chance to actually say our names. I was swinging a spoon at you so it was kinda hard. She said before laughing again.Stereochrome I don't think they did either actually, so I'mma roll with it lol

He noticed then that she had made quite a lot of food; far too much for the two of them (and even though she was a little… well, larger, she was certainly not so large that he could ever imagine her scarfing down a whole pot of food! But now he remembered her saying that some of the food she made was for neighbours and others who needed it. He hadn’t paid too much heed to it, in the heat of their argument, but now he felt another pang of guilt.
At least the whole thing had ended well! And he had helped her make more food, so perhaps that would even the score a little (well, she wouldn’t have had to make any more food if he hadn’t eaten her last batch, but… nevermind that. Why ruin a perfectly good appetite with negative thoughts?
Her laugher wiped away the rest of his hesitation, and as soon as he realized exactly what she was laughing about, he joined in with a sheepish shrug.
“I dunno,” he explained as they sat down to eat the food that she had spread out on leaves for them, once the rest was rolled up and put in a shady corner. “It seems like… names are not so important here, as they are in Oba. When I meet people here, sometimes we exchange names, but sometimes we don’t, we just… go straight into talking about things, or singing, or… or arguing, I guess.”
He giggled at that, then continued. “In Oba, it was all about names. Like you needed to know… exactly who someone was, and who their family was, and how important they were and so on, before you even considered talking to them. I mean, with the slaves, of course we were never that important, I’m sure you know that yourself. But still with the names! They become like the names of things, you know. When you own something, you have a name for it. Spoon. Cup. Jug. Vodyanoi. Hmph!”

Onora's chuckle turned into a hearty laugh as he finished his sentence. He had a very good point, because even when she was in Oba, she was either classified as an item or as nothing at all. I like it a lot better here where names aren't so much needed but a sign of friendship. She gave a huge smile. And I do admit, even though you got on my nerves in the beginning, I know you're a good friend. She handed him two packages of the meal they prepared together before wrapping the rest of them in a bigger leaf that connected to her belt. It's about time for dinner, so I should get these to the others. Thank you a lot for helping me Vodyanoi. And you can always come by to get more food, as long as you save some for everyone else. She said the last part as she wiggled her finger towards him.
She looked back on the day and if only she knew that this guy was actually really kind and just hungry, she wouldn't have blown up on him... Though he kinda deserved it at the time. As her mind came back to her home with him, she smiled again. Thanks again. I forgot how nice it is to have someone else home with me.Stereochrome Whoooo~ Sorry I haven't been the best of rp partners sweatdrop I had my CNA exam that I needed to study for but I finally passed! MissBelikov no worries! this is perfect timing, i'm just getting ready to grow Vodyanoi now. 8D we can wrap up for now and they can meet again sometime later! Vodyanoi couldn’t help but grin when Onora told him that he was a good friend -- he knew he should feel bad about the food that he took, and yeah… he supposed he did feel embarrassed about it. But in a funny way, he was almost glad it had happened. He had seen Onora while she was furiously mad, and then he had seen her when she was generous and kind, and that gave him a pretty damn good sense of who she was as a person.
And so he too was completely sure that she was a good friend. She was the kind of person who would help you when you needed help, clearly, and she would sure as heck stand up for you if the situation called for it.
“Thanks.” He was still grinning when she handed him some extra pieces of fish. “There’s not much that would stop me from coming back, not with the kind of food you cook. But I hope next time I’m back, you’ve got yourself a huuuge inn or a restaurant or something, and people from all over coming just to eat.”
They went out together after that, and Vodyanoi helped her deliver the rest of the food. Onora hadn’t been lying -- there were a lot of people depending on her help, and it felt good to have played a little part in it (even if he had eaten all their food the first time ‘round). When they came to the last settlement, the two finally parted ways. But the smell of the food lingered around him for the rest of the evening, wrapped up in the two leaves he carried in his bag.
