“Talk?” Ataya tilted his head.
The urge to continue along the path he’d been on and make the conversation difficult was great, but at mention of a weapon ‘speaking’ to her, he couldn’t help but think of Eurielle. She didn’t talk to him in any traditional sense, of course, and often didn’t at all, but he remembered distinctly the sense of communication from her — the push of her magic into his and how she had impressed her information into his conscious mind as a child. So, at length, Ataya abandoned his joking and shrugged, answering honestly.
“I heard nothing. You’re either going out of your mind, the weapon is cursed, or you’ve imprinted on it…” He eyed her, “…which would make you an archer. Officially.” The far corner of his lip twitched, his expression torn between warmth for his sister and something else, which he couldn’t quite manage to pin down. “Congratulations. Father will be so proud.”

“Imprinted…?” Kara frowned as she remained crouched, staring at the bow. She hadn’t meant to imprint yet. She had still been trying to decide between the bow and staff. A choice that hadn’t been coming as easily to her as she would have liked. She reached out again, fingertips lightly trailing along one of the blades. Again, the warmth seeped into her. Only this time she did not hear any voices. Sure that it had been a one time thing — after all, weapons didn’t talk — she wrapped her fingers back around the grip and stood with the bow in her hand. “An archer, hmm? I was always better at shoot than anything else father taught us.”
She tilted her head, eyes darting to Ataya and eyebrow raising in amusement. “If I’m going crazy, I only have you to blame.”

Something in Ataya loosened, a small knot falling free from his chest, and his expression softened around the edges, warming. “You are a magnificent shot,” he said, though in response to her latter statement, his eyebrows arched, mischief dancing again in the corners of his eyes. “What? Me? Well, I must say, sister…” He gave a pulse of magic, pushing himself into the shadows that lined the floor and in a moment crossing the distance from across the stables, to directly behind her where he took shape again and layered an arm lightly over her shoulders, chin tucking in to rest on the opposite one, “…I am flattered that you hold my skills at driving women mad in such high regard.” His smile shifted again to something more genuine and he lifted a chin to simply stand beside her. “You will make an archer this world won’t know what to do with — perhaps a better one than I am a mage, mm? And together, with our powers combined…” The corners of his smile edged back into a sharper, more mischievous glint as he stretched his spare hand out before them in a sweeping, palm up motion, “…we can rule the world.”

Kara jumped slightly as Ataya reappeared behind her. She relaxed, though, leaning back against him as he spoke. She shook her head, a small giggle on the tail end. “You are so full of yourself Ataya.” She grinned when he pulled away and she glanced at him out of the corner of her eyes. Heat crawled into her cheeks at his compliment. “Mmm...I doubt that.” Her eyebrows arched up as he mentioned, not for the first time, taking over the world. “You shall rule the land and I shall rule the waters.” She smirked as she used her free hand to uncork one of her bottles and drew a small stream of water out, splashing Ata with it and laughing as she stuck her tongue out at him.

“Full of myself?” Ataya responded with mock surprise. “Well, thank goodness, I certainly can’t think of anyone else I’d rather be full of. And that sounds quite alright. Not a great lot I can do with the ocean, in any case, other than make poorly timed iceburgs in spring. Not to mention—ack!” He sputtered as she splashed him, wiping at his face and huffing, though his smile never properly dipped. “And here I was being so serious, Kara. You interrupt my best insights.”
His eyes flicked curiously down to the bow in question and he reached out, humming thoughtfully.
“Did it happen to divulge to you a name in all its mysterious, secret rambling? Or do you get to name it?” He tilted his head. “I think…it looks quite a lot like a Dragoro, personally.”

Kara grabbed hold of the water as Ata wiped it away from his face, funneling it back into her bottle and stoppering it back up. As he spoke of the bow, she held it up, fingers wrapped tightly around it. “It did not...tell me its name. Perhaps it does not have one. Or perhaps it does not wish to tell me.” A small frown settled onto her face. “Maybe it wishes I had not imprinted with it.” Her bottom lip disappeared between teeth as she chewed on it, worry setting in that maybe her bow would not like her as its owner.

Ataya blinked, startled at first, then miffed. “Akara…of course it ‘wanted’ to imprint on you — it imprinted on you. And spoke to you in some secret mind gossip. I’m fairly certain weapons don’t do that unless they’ve found someone whose energy matches appropriately. Relax.” He tilted his head and then nudged her with his elbow. “Once we finish here, we can, ah, take it for a test run if you like.”
