Chalcedony turned to look over at Rayolun as the man started to speak, explaining to him exactly what it was that had hurt him, that caused him to seek ways of easing said hurt, and the older Shifter's eyes went a bit wide. It was quite the sad tale, to hear what he'd had to do, as well as what he'd lost. The war might be over but it would appear that the Obans were still causing pain to those around them, something that made Chalcedony dislike them just a little bit more. There was that part of them that wanted to be able to see the good in them, surely not all of Oba was filled with distasteful people, but it was becoming more and more difficult to do. The more he learned about what they had done the harder it was to want to like them. The pain in Rayolun's voice was the sort that made Chal's heart ache for the man. He knew of such loss, but not nearly in this capacity. What Raylun had lost, a fiancee, was far beyond what Chal himself had lost. Without really thinking about it he reached an arm out, wrapping it around the other man, "I'm sorry that you were forced to go through all of that." He murmured, wishing that they had been able to act more quickly, been able to chase the Obans off before they got so deep into Jauhar, before they tore so many families part and caused so much pain. He doubted that he could ever forgive them for all they had done, especially seeing his fellow Shifter in such pain. The best that he could do was be here for him, offer him a listening ear and if needed a shoulder to cry on, but sadly that was all that he could do for him. He could only hope it might help even a little.

Rayolun was a bit shocked when the other wrapped an arm about him. Other than Lsarra, a few hugs from his uncle and an arm slung about his shoulder by his 'brother' Gerraden he'd never really touched others. It was more comforting than he'd figured; maybe it was because the other was stranger that he could be so.. open? Let these painful things out and hope airing them makes the pain lessen. He bowed his head and curled his arms above it; curled up protectively, hiding his face. Always one to keep everything inside and not give away his thoughts, Rayolun was tired of holding in the tears. Tired of forcing the tears back. "I.. I finally had a home.. A person who loved me. A chance at a family.... A real family not an uncle who I see only once in a blue moon.... All just.. gone.... Gone so quickly." His voice was hoarse, his pain and loss clearly echoing in his whispered words as tears slid down his checks. Why'd it happen? Why? He'd never had much of real happiness.. some quiet enjoyment, but not truly happy like he'd been with her. Why'd it have to be taken from him?

Chal's eyes went a little wide at what the other Shifter was saying, feeling quite bad for the man. He knew what it was like to lose your first love but his feelings hadn't gotten nearly as as far along and developed as Ray's were. The pain he felt at losing Takoda to Jacinthus was nothing in comparison to losing one's almost wife to the unknown. Due to this he tightened his arm a bit, giving Rayolun a squeeze but didn't say anything yet. Instead he listened and let the man work through his grief. Offering him a shoulder to cry on and a listening ear was the best thing that Chalcedony could offer, really the only thing. There was of course a part of him that wanted to do so much more but he knew that this wasn't like the battle against Oba. There was no real enemy to attack, there was nothing that fighting could accomplish. A shame, he really wished there was something else that he could do for Rayolun. After a moment more of silence he finally said, "My family, my parents and my many siblings, live outside of Sol. I stay there often as well, I want you to come by any time, for a meal or for a chat, their very friendly people even if my sisters can be a bit of a pain at times." He said, giving Rayolun an open invitation to come by and visit. His fellow Shifter sounded lonely, speaking of only having a distant uncle as family. Given that Chal had more then enough family he didn't mind bringing Ray by, it would give his siblings someone else to bother and climb all over for a while. His mother was sure to stuff Ray full of good food, his father would probably chat with him about patrols, the movements of various species and likely ask him about his weapon, and his siblings... well, that could go either way. Given that Ray was attractive Vera and Reva would likely not leave him alone. He might have to warn them off of that given Ray was still grieving his lost love though were he to visit soon. He was sure the last thing he wanted was to have a pair of twins hanging off him and trying to lay claim to him.

He calmed down after a while, burying the pain once more before he straightened and wiped his eyes. It still hurt... but crying and talking had made it... less a burden. He gave the other a wan smile; "Thanks for listening. It... helped." His voice was slightly hoarse. "And for the offer as well.... I'll.. I'll drop by. Not now;" now would be too painful. Looking at what could have been his but wouldn't... " But after I've.... done something... Gone somewhere. If I ... visit new lands.. then maybe the pain will dull further." Maybe I can see matori... visit those lands.... they are along the coast so I should be able to find some sort of solace there. Perhaps the wide open space of the ocean would also help heal him.. It had always comforted him before so perhaps it could help now. But not the sea by jauhur. He needed out, needed to get away. "I'll head to matori. See the water folk.. perhaps they could use a helping hand in.... something..." he said as his eyes turned back out to watch the pouring rain that softened all sound except for the soft pattering it made as it landed upon the jungle foliage. He had an idea, someplace to go to; it made the day slightly brighter than the past few months. No longer aimlessly wandering the jungles looking for someone who was long gone, he had something to do, something that maybe would help others and also help him...

Chalcedony gave him a gentle sort of smile as the younger man withdrew from him, watching Rayolun wipe his eyes dry, composing himself once more, "It's alright, if I could help you even a little I am glad." He said, glad that he was able to offer him some sort of help. After what they had shared during the war he felt it was the least that he could do, Rayolun had done so much after when it came to getting them all to safety. "When you're feeling up to it you will always be welcome at my home, Rayolun. I understand though, the need you feel to go out and figure things out yourself." He said, then nodded, "You could be right, the Matori could likely use friends and aid after all that they have through at the hands of the Obans. You will have to tell me what their lands are like, I must say after seeing them I am a little curious." They were a strange looking people, but pretty at the same time. The odd, speckled skin, those strange eyes, and the fin ears. It really made him wonder what it might be like where they came from but he wasn't really feeling up to travel himself, he'd already done that when he was younger and he had responsiblities in Jauhar.

Rayolun sat for a while longer before giving the other a small smile. "Thank you.. for the words... and a shoulder to cry on." He said softly as he scooped up his snoozing roati and stepped out into the lessening rain. "I will.. drop by one day and take you up on your offer of a meal." When he felt beter and it didn't hurt as much. Giving the other a nod of farewell, he vanished off into the rains mist. Blending in with ease as he traveled away from Jauhur.

"I am glad that I could help." He said, giving Rayolun a smile and a nod, hoping that it had helped the man out and hoped that his journey to Matori would help him as well. Chalcedony watched as his fellow Shifter rose, giving him a nod, before heading off into the rainy forest. It seemed that the small amount of time that they had spent together had helped the man at least a bit, which was good. Now here was to hoping he was able to find the missing woman he'd been talking about.
Pushing up to his feet Chal set to stretching out all over before scooping up his shield. The rain was slacking off, if only a bit, and that meant he should take advantage and go on his way as well. He'd been away from home on his patrol long enough and he had to get back, to make sure that everyone was alright.
