He listened in silence as she worked through his questions, answering them more for herself it seemed than for his benefit. It seemed that she would live a life full of loneliness just so her herd will not have a leverage against her. It was a sad way to live, it was not really living, it was surviving. Constantly running and planning for an enemy that was always stalking you, waiting for any sign of weakness. He did not doubt her strength, but even the strong become wary of fleeing. And it was in soquili nature to be a part of a group, yes there were loners, but even they tried to find some interaction between others.

Her freedom came at a high cost. Death of those in her herd and now her constantly needing to be alone so she could flee before the enemy got to close. Killian’s heart went out to the mare, and it will only become more difficult for her when she starts making friends in the Kawani lands or perhaps she would not even do that, out of worry that they would be used to get to her. He knew that she did not want to fight and would rather solve problems with words, but sometimes there was no other way of solving the problem. They did not appear to be soquili who listened to reason, they had lost their greatest weapon and now they wanted her back.

Killian looked at her as she finished her verbal thinking, she had come to the conclusion of what she planned to do with the questions he had voiced. He slowly nodded to her words, his own thought whirling in his head. So she would do anything to protect the ones she cared about, they were the same in that regard. “That is a very good answer. Those we care about define us and help us, to lose those who share our hearts and mind would be a devastating blow.” He thought about his sisters, his mother, his father, the lovely queen who saved him from death, each of them possessed a part of his heart and mind, they were soquili who he would go to the ends of the earth to protect. Killian wondered if Ichika had ever had connections to others like he had just listed to himself, and then he realized that she might not have, for she said she had seen others share heart and mind, but never once mentioned that she had felt the same. Her clan had taken much from her and it continued to do so and would until something or someone put a stop to it.

"I am glad that we can agree on things." Ichika smiled at him, but felt a dark cloud cast a shadow on her mind. It would take some thinking to come to a point where she could either find happiness or make happiness. There is nothing she could do about it currently though, and she knew that when you dont have the power to act then it is best to set aside the thoughts that cause trouble and move forward with the ones that can be acted upon.

"Killian, Have you given your heart to others? You seem to speak as if you know the feelings that I can only philosophize about. Who holds your heart?" There was no real motive behind the question. Ichika at this point had stopped thinking about figuring him out and learning about him, and had actually slipped into the pattern of conversation. She did not notice it but it happened naturally.

He bowed his head in acknowledgement to her words. He was starting to understand the mare and she was nice, it made him sad that others only conversed with her shortly, never really giving her a chance. He knew all about judgment and he knew about sadness, perhaps he has not felt the bone aching loneliness that she has felt as she fled from her herd, not making bonds with others for it could cause them pain when she left.

Killian smiled at the mare, “I have a quite a few who hold my heart. My sisters, my mother, my father, the kind Queen who saved me from death. The heart is an amazing thing, it allows you to love many at the same time, and for them I would do anything.” And he had loved his enemies, but the love he felt for them was different than the love he felt for his family. He did not have one who held his heart higher than the others, he loved each of them equally. He loved them for their faults, their strengths, and their bright spirits. He owed each of them something, for without them, he would not be who he was today.

"Many hold your heart. Are you afraid that they will lose it or break it? In her mind she was picturing holding a heart. She had seen many hearts on the battle field so her imagination was very accurate. She held onto the heart, but its hard to run on three legs so she dropped it and it broke. She also pictured her placing the heart somewhere and not being able to find it again. she knew they were thinking in hypothetical, but sometimes the imaginary can accurately describe reality to others in a way that they can understand.

He paused to consider her words, "When you give your heart to another, you run the risk of it being broken or lost. It is just a part of life, the positive and the negative. Having those you care about is not as burdensome as some may think, yes they may get on your nerves and try your patience, but they are your loved ones, so you accept their flaws and actions. At least that is what I have learned with my family.  Others have it differently, it all just depends on the individual." He felt as if he just rambled, she had asked a simple question that could have been answered with a yes or a no, but instead he let his mind spew become actual words. Killian watched the mare, she had not given her heart to others, her herd had not allowed it and they were a tribe of warriors, so love or caring was a risky thing when the life expectancy was not very long. Would she ever give her heart to someone or were the scars of the past too deep? "Are you opposed to the idea? Of opening your heart for many? Even if the benefits outweigh the risks?"

Ichika thought for a moment. "These things are hard because they are not something you can see or observe, they are only something to be experienced. There is no way to think or plan or stratagem. I have realized that in talking with you. Others are unpredictable and there are many different ways that can be an outcome. I guess what I am trying to say is that there is risk in battle and that I know, but there are also risks outside of battle." Ichika looked down at her claws and scratched the ground a little bit. She did not know why this was hard for her to answer. Normally she would have just blurted out the most logical answer along with some long winded explanation as a follow-up. This was different though because there was no logical answer. matter of the heart did not seem to be logical at all. heart is something that belongs to a mind and a soul and while the mind can be very logical, the soul is the opposite.

Ichika let out a large sigh and then looked back at Killian. "I am not opposed. I see there is benefit, but I do not think that I would do it for any gain. I would do it because It feels right, or at least I want to think that it is right. I can give my heart to many and that is safe because even if one drops it, another will be there to catch me. That I guess would be the benefit. It is a new concept to me, but If I am to survive in this land with this people then I need to learn their ways. This land is not one of great blood shed, so it is time for me to learn not only the people, but their hearts. You have shown me that if I want to learn a heart I must give a bit of my own, thank you for that." She dipped her head a bit and followed with a smile.

The stallion with the coat of the darkest depths of the sea listened silently as the mare reasoned out her answer. It had been a hard question, life is all about risks and sometimes one wonders about the what ifs and what could have beens. Love was not something that could be explained logically, yes one could say that it was because of certain hormones being emitted from the body and causing the person to feel an elated happy state, but Killian believed it to be more than science, more than logic.

“The world is an unpredictable place, and you are right, there is risk in all that what we do, but if we lived without risk, would we really be living?”

Again he went silent as he listened to her words and thought them over and smiled at the mare when she came to the realization that giving your heart to many was not a burden or a terrible price. He bowed his head in return to her gesture, “You are welcome Ichika.” He could not help but be happy for the mare although a little sad since she was still on the run from members of her herd.

Ichika shuffled in place a bit. She was not used to feeling uncomfortable, but she had something to say to Killian and for some reason it made her a bit uncomfortable. She had never had a hard time saying anything before, in fact she often said too much. Maybe this was just part of the process of getting to know someone. She nodded to Killian and with a slightly hesitant start she said, "Killian, I feel that if I leave here now I would have our conversation leave our mind. You would stay with me and our words would stay with me. I do not forget so I think a lot, but this conversation would be thought of more than others. Would it be correct of me to say that I have given part of my heart? Is it because I have given part of my heart that these thoughts would be strong? Because there is more room? I don't know, it is new to me, and for once, I don't know what to call something."

She blushed a bit, but did not look away. Looking away would be a final defeat for her because it would mean that she had found something that she could not face. There has never been anything that she could not face and she was not going to let the first thing be now. It's not that she is ashamed or embarrassed, but rather that it was a natural feeling for her to want to blush and look away. Looking away has a poor connotation in her mind though and she did not connect the motion with shyness or coy, but rather with weakness, so she would not look away from anything.

The stallion did not say anything for a long while as he let the mare’s words process in his mind and slowly he nodded , “That is very true, what we have discussed here could slip our minds as soon as we say goodbye. I would be honored to travel with you and learn more about you. You are a fascinating mare Ichika, I am glad to have met you. And you would be correct, to those we let in we give a piece of our heart, and it colors the way we see the world and how we feel towards others,” He smiled at the mare, “There are times when that happens, when feelings are hard to describe or put words to them.” Killian watched as the blush appeared on Ichika’s face, it caused his own face to heat up. Never before had he a conversation like the one he had today, well with someone who was not related to him. The mare standing before him was different than any he had met previously and she also fascinated him. She was raised in a warrior culture which desired war and she left it for she sought out peace and a way to solve conflict with words. Traveling with her would allow him to get to know her better and allow their friendship to grow. The deep sea colored stallion smiled at the prospect.

The largest grin spread on Ichika's face, and she made no attempt to hide it. This stallion wanted to travel with her. It made her chest warm and she was actually rather happy. It was the kind of happiness that made er want to laugh with giddy joy, but she still had some restraint so she did not. Instead she nodded at Killian and said, "I would love to have you along. It will be a different experience to have someone with me as I travel. I cannot promise anything, but know that you will be safe with me and I feel that I will be safe with you too."

Ichika was hopeful. She had felt as if her life was just lone never ending search for questions that she asked herself while on the run. The thought of traveling with Killian brought a light to her mood. She had made a friend, her life felt bright like the ripples of the light that danced on the surface of the river.

He looked at the mare and then at the vast world around them, adventure lay ahead of them, each twist and turn will reveal something new to those who travel upon the path. It made him think of the tales of the old Knight Quests, where they would go under trials to prove their worth before they could obtain their goal. Those who were not worthy fell from the path and were seen no more, for only those with a noble, valiant, and benevolent heart were able to pass the tests. Killian turned his attention back to the mare and bowed to her, “Which direction shall we take on this journey Lady Ichika? Here in the east, do we go to the south, where the swamp lands lie? Or to the southwest, where the ocean caresses the land? Or North to the mountains, where ice and snow are in control? There is so much of the world to see, don’t you agree?” He gave a small laugh at the rhyme and smiled at the mare, wondering which direction would call to her.
