There was a pause while he sat -- reclaiming his position, stretching long legs out slowly beneath the counter and trying to relieve all the small, lingering aches and bruises. It was possible, perhaps, that he was taking his time, making her wait just a bit longer before he took the books. This time he paused to look at their covers, checking out what she was checking out. But not actually checking it out. "I promised her I would." A beat. "Kick your a**, I mean."

It was really cute how long he was taking. She knew he was doing it on purpose, but you know what? Fine. She wouldn't let it bother her. Instead she took to leaning on the desk and waited. Patiently. Very patiently. "How noble." Claude drawled. "I'm sure I'm not the only one who kicked her a**, or will want to kick her a**, and if you're going to promise to kick the a** of everyone who does it to her, you're going to be tired, guy. You're on the verge of looking dead already, I don't think that bodes well for you." Claude idly drummed her fingers along the desk in an even rhythm, not at all interested in the well being of her own a**. If he was going to go at her, he was going to go at her. There really wasn't anything she could do about it.

"I think I might have been dead, for the better part of a minute. Depends on your definition." He said it flatly -- and it was maybe a challenge of its own. Come up with a clever reply to that, said his tone of voice, since death actually was an integral part of their job here. He stamped her book with perhaps more force than needed. "Could be worse."

She picked up on the challenge and her lips quirked up for the briefest moment. "A dead hunter is a useless hunter...you know that right?" Of course he knew that. She was just asking it rhetorically to come back to his challenge...and to be a smart a** again. Claude said nothing to the excessive use of force on the poor books. "It could always be worse."

"It could, couldn't it?" There was a shocking amount of sarcasm as Ever leaned forward, fingers laced together and elbows on the table. It was also more than just a little bit gay. Sometimes, Ever couldn't help but setting every radar in the building to buzzing. Somehow, despite that, he turned it into a threat. "Maybe think about that, then, and stop hitting before you knock someone senseless."

Since he appeared to be done, with the books, Claude leaned and plucked them both up from the desk before he decided to hold them hostage again. She tucked then on a hip under an arm and the other rested neatly on her other hip as she peered down at him. Her lips quirked up in a corner again. "Can't beat someone senseless who didn't have any to begin with." Claude usually didn't care to egg someone, and in the past she would have left it with a 'whatever' and then be gone. Being on Deus no one could stay the same though, for better or for worse. "How about instead of threatening me, you do your girl a real favor and tell her when to call it quits."

"It's not a threat, it's a promise." He flicked fingers in her direction, rudely dismissive, and tipped his chin up juts a little bit. "If you want to test it, come find me off duty, any time. Room 104."

It would have been easier to just have taken her books and walked out now. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't bothered that she was getting s**t from someone else because of Cee. In response to his rude dismissive gesture Claude leaned on the desk and gazed down at him through lidded eyes. "It's a threat coming from a tweaked out sickly fool who reeks of cigarettes and needs a ******** ton of bed rest...not to mention a cheeseburger. Or a dozen of them." She rolled a shoulder idly. "You'll have to pardon me if I don't take you seriously because you're a joke right now. I don't care if you're a higher rank than me. Go ahead and beat my a**. It's not going to change anything but only be a complete waste of both our times."

Ever blinked at her flatly for just a moment, head cocked to the side, and then leaned back behind the counter, reaching down -- "Hold on, I think you forgot --" --- he came up empty handed, middle finger raised in a special salute. All told, he didn't seem too bothered, now. He'd done his bit. As promised. lucyal lmao I am sorry I couldn't resist

Claude stared back just as flatly as he gave her a special salute, and she stared at him for a few moments before she let out a chuckle and shook her head. The trainee pushed off the counter. "I'll let you have that, Snowflake, because it's all you got going for you right now." She then didn't bother to wait for anything else, and strolled her way out of the library. and be blue I died okay, THANK YOU FOR THE RP ;; <3 Let's have another one again sometime!
