"You're shield means you can take a ******** ton more damage. Regular human'd have broken something by now." The comments made her smile dimple, "It's not vain if it's true." A wink, "That's just me tellin' it like it is."
Ducking in close, she kneed his hip.
"Now there's one thing you should know 'bout me if you know anything at all, and that's the fact that I don't ever lie. So if someone says I slandered their good name? It's cause I said something true 'bout them that they didn't want known."

"Forgive me if I don't outright believe you." And it was most certainly still vain, perhaps especially so, if she was pretty. He oomphed as her slammed into his hip, but stood there fir a second.
"There were no specifics beyond that, of course." And he probably needed those specifics, although not from her.

She made an incredulous noise, "But you believe someone outright who didn't bother giving you any specifics to make an opinion for yourself?" If she'd had any doubts as to who the s**t talker was, this nailed them down. She went to hit him in the head, maybe knock some sense into the kid, but he dodged well enough to avoid any damage. "Bit naive aren't you?" HP: 36 Dmg: naw

"I didn't yet ask for specifics, but I can recognize certain signs in people." He lunged at her, but she lithely moved, leaving him ungainly half-sprawled in the dust. Jannisari hummed quietly in disappointment. HP: 17 DMG: nopes CHG: 1/3

"If you have to ask, then he wasn't offering." Reaching down she hauled him up, abrupt and ungentle. He was just a boy, and all too trusting of the wrong sorts of things and maybe she should put more effort in warning him. Maybe she should explain a few things and give the hard proof of certain truths.
"What sorta signs?"

He hissed as she hauled him up. "What are you trying to dislocate my shoulder? And I wold never expect someone to just spill their secrets of a public forum; that's a folly." He half-heartedly pushed her hand away. ?Horace didn't expect her to understand. He didn't hate America, by any means, but he also didn't really like her. "You aren't so delicate as that," she answered, unapologetic. "You can always run into someone good at faking s**t like too, so maybe don't rely too much on those signs of yours, hun. Crocodile tears serve no one but the croc."
She delivered a solid punch to his jaw and stepped back again, "Looking pretty worn, how's your shield feel?“

Sighing, he lunged forward, nicking her in the knee. He didn't really want to talk about all this. Everyone was bombarding him with hearsay and bits of half-told stories and nothing was facts, anyway. So what if he chose to be friends with Jan? Jan was nice, and if he hadn't been nice before, well, people changed. "Well," he said, twisting his wrists around. "She's got a charge - hope I'll last long enough to use it. Shield's running real thin." HP: 6 DMG: 1 CHG: 3/3

What a soft hearted optimist, but he was decent enough to dodge her next jab so with a ready stance she gestured, "Let's see it."

Horace didn't really care fior America, but she was willing to teach, so she was alright. For now. Concentrating, he touched the two tekkos together, the runes flared faded, and... nothing.
{stop, think. what have you done to earn this, horace?} Her voice was sticky, cloying, like clover honey as it dripped in his mind. And behind that deceptive sweetness was disappointment, always there, palpable in each syllable. Not good enough, it whispered.

Relaxing, America put her hands in her pockets and rocked on her heels. "Is it giving you s**t again? Weapons are like that, you know. They're people just as much as we are, n'most were just kids so they've got a lot to learn about their charges and such right alongside you." She gave him a half smile, "Your shield gets like this and you're out of charges? Stop the fight. If you're in the field, get out of there. And get some bandages, the other runics are helpful too, but get those first."

"Mmm," he said distractedly. "She says I'm a dissappointment. That I don't deserve things." He blinked, the faraway look in his pale eyes fading. Horace thought that Jannisari was likely right. But she pulled, and she pushed, and she told him he was better than this, that he could be better. And that was enough. He pushed his glasses up and clicked his tongue piercing against his teeth for a second. "If nothing else, I probably learned some more about fighting from you, so thanks for that. You're good." Horace's lips pursed. He didn't like her, but that didn't mean he hated her, or that he thought she was an awful hunter. She was probably good in the field. This whole thing with Jan was confusing at best, but he liked Jan. So that was that for now. Saluting slopping, he unsummoned Jannisari and turned to lope off of the field.

Clucking her tongue, America watched him run off. Not a bad fighter, but that was only a small part of surviving as a hunter.
