Mirin shook the tree limbs with all her strength and got the Obans good and scared. She smirked... but then her face fell when she heard the shouting from the camp. They saw Ouen! She stopped her shaking and slapped a hand to her forehead. How were they going to get out of this one?
Mirin race back through the trees and to where Ouen was under her feet. She looked down with wide eyes trying to figure out what to do next. Out of panic she picked up a large fruit from the branches near her, feeling for hardness and then throwing it as hard as she could at the Obans on the floor. With any luck they wouldn't see her but would distract them long enough for Ouen to finish cutting the rope and get out of there. She growled at the Obans, her body on edge and ready to make her next move... or throw more fruit.

Ouen heard the footfalls of returning Obans. Mirin had done a good job of leading them away from the camp, and it would take them a few more moments to make it all the way back… if he wanted to run, now would be a good time. He could escape the single watchman, surely?
But the radaku shifted restlessly, hearing the shouting and getting anxious. Ouen tightened his grip on the knife and kept hacking at the thick rope. Just a little longer…
“Come here, you!” The Oban guard was shouting, moving fast in his direction. But before he could get there…
THUNK!
A big, round green fruit landed squarely on his head. Mirin!
Soon the other Obans came, and they too were pelted with fruits and nuts. Ouen wanted to laugh, but turned his attention to the rope and sliced violently, paying no heed to the shouting warriors. One, two, three more cuts --
And then the rope was split!
It took the radaku a few moments to realise that they were free, but once Ouen had pulled the rope free of their chains they took off in every direction, knocking many of the Obans off their feet in the process. Ouen let out a triumphant howl, and was just about to make his own getaway when he noticed something small and gray-white curled up between the roots of the big tree, trembling and cowering from all the noise. It was a radaku pup!

Mirin shouted in delight. They did it! She growled at the Obans once more for effect from up in her tree, though they probably still couldn't see her and watched as Ouen... didn't leave... What was he doing? She felt a ball in her stomach as she watched him get closer to the tree the radaku were tied to. A pup? Mirin wanted to shout out at him to get out of there, but she just watched the Obans from weary eyes, waiting to see if they were to get up before Ouen could grab the little thing and get out for real!
"Move faster Ouen!" She whispered out to him. "They're getting up!"

kaname423 yusss. o wo some backstory for Ouen's radaku familiar. He heard Mirin shout above him, and knew that the other radaku must be clear of the camp and safe in the jungle. But this little one… it was too scared to move, by the looks of it. When Ouen reached out for it, it only scrambled deeper into the recess between the tree-roots.
He was running out of time!
But there was no way he was leaving this little creature for the Oban, not after all the trouble they had gone through to save the big ones. He’d spend the rest of his life worrying about it, imagining it getting dragged to some strange land where there weren’t trees or fruits or tasty insects. He crept forward on his haunches, keeping his voice low and hoping to stay unnoticed by the Obans once again.
“Hey, little guy. C’mon. Come here.”
A narrow little snout wriggled at him, then disappeared again. These was something familiar about this one…
The Obans were returning, having failed to catch any of the escaping animals. Ouen struck his hand in the folds of his sash and came up with some dried fruit rinds -- he kept them around to snack on, because they were light and easy to carry. He held some of these out in the palm of his hand. “C’mon, you can have these. They’re good!”
Finally, the little creature seemed to perk up, approaching the outstretched hand with interest. And as much as Ouen would have liked to wait and give it time to think… that simply wasn’t an option. WIth a lunge, he reached out and grabbed the little radaku, which let out a loud squeal of fright. The Obans heard it! They were running again, and so was Ouen. But it was quite a job, running with a struggling radaku pup in your arms!

Mirin watched from the trees as Ouen decided to take his sweet sweet time with the radaku pup. Mirin was frustrated at this point, wanting nothing more than to just knock him out with a fruit and drag him away. But he got the pup! And he was running through the forest and away from the Obans!
With a jump of her own, she raced as fast as she could behind Ouen from up in the trees. She would be out of breath soon, but she couldn't hear the Obans anymore at least. They seemed to have called off the chase and couldn't be bothered to deal with two pesky kids. Good. Mirin was glad that they stopped and lost all their radaku. They should have gotten more punishment than that but at least she was able to knock a few of them around with her fruits. She smirked and stopped once Ouen had stopped as well.
"Are you crazy?!" Mirin huffed, climbing down from her tree. "You almost got us caught!" She barked out. But her eyes went large with the sight of the radaku pup. He was just... too cute to bare.

Fortunately, the radaku pup seemed to quieten a bit when it realised that it was being taken away from the frightening men who had dragged it halfway across the jungle… although it was hardly about to get used to being held, and still wriggled unnecessarily as the shifter dodged trees and hanging vines.
Finally, when the sounds of the Obans seemed to have died down, he stopped to catch his breath.
Then he remembered --
“Mirin!” The girl skidded off a tree before he could even start to worry about her, and he grinned broadly as she approached. “We did it!”
He laughed at her complaints about getting caught, knowing that they weren’t entirely serious (you know, maybe based on the wide-eyed look on her face). He held out the radaku pup, who kicked at the air with his legs and let out a few confused-sounding whines. It had a funny sort of colour... mostly dark but pale white down the back and all the way up from it's paws.
“I had to get this one out. It was scared!”

Mirin regained her composure and huffed, crossing her arms. "Sure." She sarcastically spat out and cocked her head to the side. "Well... he's safe now. Those stupid Obans couldn't get him at least." Mirin sighed and reached out a hand to rub the squirming radaku's stomach.
"Are you gonna keep him?" Her eyes lit up. Now that the danger was averted and the Obans were long gone, Mirin didn't have to worry about Ouen. They could get back to the little thing in Ouen's arms.

The radaku seemed to still a little when Mirin reached up to rub his belly, letting out a somewhat more pleased-sounding whirr. Well, Ouen thought it sounded pleased. He wasn’t exactly an expert on radaku sounds, having mostly glimpsed wild ones in the jungle… and the rare tame one on the trail.
“Are you gonna keep him?” Mirin asked.
Ouen thought about it. He didn’t know much about raising radaku, but why not? This one was old enough to eat real food, based on his reaction to the dried food, and seemed to be calming down a fair bit. Tentatively, he put the animal down on the ground, half-expecting him to run off.
It didn’t. It hovered around their legs, doing a figure eight around both of them and then lifting it’s snout to sniff at Ouen’s sash, where more dried fruit was hidden.
“Guess so!” Ouen laughed, then turned to Mirin. Without giving it much thought, he knelt down and reached out to hug her.
“Thanks. You’re a real cool girl, y’know? We could’a only done it together.”

Mirin felt herself get wrapped up in Ouen's hug. She patted him on the back, not too sure she was the hugging type and laughed hesitantly. "Well you're a pretty cool boy." She grinned and playfully pushed his shoulder. "I know. You would've been pretty hopeless without me around to save you." she joked.
She felt her ears perk and she looked up at the canopy to the weak sunlight filtering through. "I guess it's time for me to go home then. My parents are gonna be so worried." She grimaced at the thought of returning home. "Take care of that pup or I'm gonna have to come back and beat you up like I did the Obans." She laughed at her own joke before she took off into the trees and back home.
