Lithian lingered long in the doorway, immobile, eyes following after Casseth in a shameless stare. When Cas finally disappeared into the bedroom, like a spell broken, Lithian shook his head, stepped into the house and shut the door with another frustrated whine of a sound.
This was
not how he had intended things to proceed. He hadn’t even meant to ‘challenge’ Casseth. He had thought his lover had been
teasing — though he supposed he had been, really, and was entirely his fault for making things into any sort of competition by saying that Casseth
wouldn’t have the restraint needed, but…
Lithian mumbled beneath his breath, and after one final peek into the bedroom, he started towards the bath. Upon stepping into the spacious room alone, he had half a mind to give in immediately, turn back around, and tell Casseth that he didn’t want to play. He was lonely already and
wanted Casseth with him.
But, he reminded himself, it
was a challenge. Casseth liked challenges, and though Lithian wasn’t precisely the competitive sort, he
did think he had the restraint to manage this, it was a matter of whether it was worth it or not. As he moved across the smooth, varnished wood flooring and activated a spell to send warm pulses through the water before slipping a foot in, he shivered, and let his lashes fall shut. If nothing else, he consoled himself, depriving himself for some time
would make the final result all the more satisfying, and it had been years now since he and Casseth had ‘pursued’ each other. Not to mention, that in itself, had been complicated it all its own ways.
This was different.
They were adults now, not children, and steady lovers. He was comfortable with his relationship with Casseth. More than that — wildly happy. And this, if executed properly, could be…fun.
Lithian settled into the warm water, sifted his fingers back through his hair and then down as his thoughts lingered on Casseth: what he could have had in the sand with him; what they
would have after he waited this out. His lashes flit against his cheeks as his trailed his fingers down his sides under the water, imagining Casseth over him here, now, lips open against his and body pressing him against the backing of the bath, solid weight holding him pinned in place.
“Casseth…”

After satisfying baser needs — and washing his hair, for the record — Lithian stepped from the bath feeling better, if not quite so complete as he might have liked. He pulled the water from his body easily, drying himself with a pluck of magic before leaving the washroom and heading towards his shared bedroom. After listening to make sure he wouldn’t step in on anything ‘private’ he moved in, and smiled, unspoken of tension seeping from his shoulders and out at the sight that greeted him.
Moonlight spilled in from their open window, blue-white and luminescent over Casseth’s dark skin. It glinted on his burnished gold-brown scales and poured over his body in its current posture: stretched out, lethargic, and relaxed atop the mattress. Padding quietly over to him, Lithian hummed before climbing onto the mattress himself and settling in beside him.
“Did you miss me?” he murmured, kissing Cas’ shoulder and slipping his feet under the covers.
