Rather than laugh again, Sebastian's expression softened. Had he really been the first? Sure, nobles were expected to be poised and objective in everyday action, but he had always assumed that they were allowed to be emotional amongst themselves. Maybe she only meant the first common man, in which case he and two others had seen her cry. That was not a statistic he would be sharing, however.
He did grin when the young woman took a long swig, though. Attagirl.
"Go on. I'm not one to share secrets."

Naevius continued to fidgit, and even though the alcohol kind of burned her throat, she took another sip. Should she really confide in him? She felt like she could trust him, but trust was a fickle thing, you never really knew who you could trust. They sat there for a little bit in the silence, or relative silence, in awkwardness Naevius thought. She stared at the fire and wished it would just burn all her fears away, but knew nothing other than herself could do that. "I...I can't sleep anymore." She looked up at him with sad eyes. "Every time I close my eyes, I see that Ice Earthling's knife against my neck. I see that injured one climb over the fence and beat Saraf. I see all the destruction the Arwa caused. It scares me. I just wonder why our King couldn't have seen that diplomacy was the best option before...before all those lives were lost, ours and theirs." She exhaled deeply, her shoulders sagged a little, whatever pride was normally there was gone with this confession.

Sebastien didn't feel any awkwardness in the silence, but then he was a man who lived most evenings without words. The beasts shifted and sighed throughout the night, but his coworkers were gone. There was nothing left to do but lay and thing, and so Naevius' silence didn't bother him. His own gaze drifted around the camp, into the fire, around the outskirts barely illuminated by the flame.
"I really can't either," he admitted finally, his attention turning to Naevius once more. "I've been in the camps during the battles, I've seen men and women come back wounded and some not come back at all. This time it was all right there, my beasts, my friends. The hostage situation was the least stressful for me, at least. Our king... It's not my place to talk negatively about our king, but I do wish that diplomacy had taken the place of his enormous--" His lips curled into a hard plosive, but he stopped himself. One did not use the word 'c**k' around a pretty lady. "...ego."

"Before...I wouldn't even begin to imagine what that would be like. But now..." Naevius was definitely a changed woman. Would that whole ordeal changer her a lot? Would it let her still be compassionate towards those who others don't believe deserve it? Being honest with herself, she really didn't know. What would she do the next time she met a Tendajian? Would she be as careless that one time when she had met her first Tendajian? She suppressed a laugh as it was clear where his last sentence was going. Naevius had spent enough time among the soldiers to hear things she probably shouldn't of, and she was all too willing to listen to the soldiers, even the ones that didn't know how to censor their speech. "I think many do, Sebastien. But I also think we should pray thanks to the gods for finally giving him the insight that diplomacy was the best option." She herself, looked to the sky before taking another sip from the mug. He was right, though, it was making her feel much more relaxed.

He couldn't be quite sure what that laugh was for, but it didn't seem offended or scornful so he supposed he could just let it fly. He eyed the mug in her hands a moment before his gaze flickered back up to meet hers.
"I think the insight may have been coming in the form of rebellion if he hadn't. Have you heard the soldiers? I'd thought that they were standing behind the king, but it seems a fair few were cursing him behind his back." Sebastien sighed deeply and shook his head. Every time he closed his eyes he saw blood weeping from a wound. The young man grimaced and frowned, then realized that his head had swung down and turned to Naevius once more.
"I think I need a cup myself. You're free to stay here if you'd like to wait." Then again, she was a fairly common sight amidst the soldiers on a normal day. "Or you could accompany me back to the keg, of course."

Naevius smiled and nodded as he shared his insight. "I Have heard some of the soldiers, yes. I make a point to try and talk to one or two every day. It helps figure out the moral. I've only heard a few whispers speaking ill against the king, but surprisingly, I didn't know them so I had no way of finding them again." She sighed as he posed his next thought. While she yearned to go with him, Nae knew she had probably been out long enough for one night. "While I would like to go with you, it'd probably be best that I retire for the night. Though, if I can't sleep, I know where to find you." She said, unknowingly in a flirty way as she handed the mug back to him. "Thanks for listening. I appreciate it." Naevius said with a soft smile before turning and leaving the most comfortable fire she thought she'd ever sat at.

"Really? I'd think most would know better than to speak ill of the king to his cousin," he said, and then raised a hand as he corrected himself, "Not that I think you're a political tattle-tale."
He leaned forward on his knees and then stood, ready to go for a drink whether the young woman came with him or not. He grinned at the flirt and numbly accepted the mug back into his hands.
"Indeed! Good night, Naevius." He lifted the cup to his lips and took a sip. Well then!
