Indeed, it wasn't quite the store that Reizo was used to, but then again, it wasn't terrible at all. Well-stocked, and clean. The actual quality of the paints was something entirely different, but when he had been picking up the dirt that had started this entire conversation, Kei had sounded quite knowledgeable. Reizo folded his arms in front of him, his eyes flicking back once more to Shinji in a silent command to stay outside under the awning, lest the dripping Gehaka get the floors wet.

Again, the reaction of the other Gehaka was more than amusing, causing Reizo's lips to quirk into smile as he glanced about. "I will just look around, thank you." Reizo half murmured, drifting towards one of the shelves to look at the contents.

As the Haka wandered away, Kei glanced to the Gehaka behind the counter and motioned. In the meantime, he flicked his wings free of water and watched Reizo's guided path. He was probably just as wet as Shinji, but he wouldn't be for long with the coming of the towels that the other Gehaka had brought to him at the door. One of them was unceremoniously set on the small sill used for potted plants or signs, and Kei seemed to be pretending as if he had not done so at all- either Shinji would use it or he wouldn't. The other he ran quickly through his hair, against his chest, then around his legs. After this, he could trust himself to step inside without dripping too much if any.

The shelf Reizo had wandered to stocked various paintbrushes, all lined up by size and quality. Further down, there would be things like charcoal and smudge tools for those who drew. Behind Reizo, covering the majority of the wall, would be the colors. The ink was bottled up in slightly wider jars, ranging through almost all the monochromes. The paints were much more thin, like the vile in which Kei had scooped in the sand. The quality was indeed odd, but only because there weren't much more like them. The imports that were there were clearly different from the large collection of colors that had been stalked up.

Kei stood near the door, watching in case the other should need his assistance in anything. He was going to give Reizo his space to wander until then. The Haka didn't need to be followed everywhere, did he?

The Gehaka glanced down towards the towel set down, flicked his eyes up at Kei for a moment, and then wordlessly accepted the offering, leaning down to pick it up. Shinji began to dry himself off, though it was a harder task because unlike Kei, the Gehaka was wearing a rough blue yukata. He did not, however, step inside once done, because he had clearly been told to stay outside.

Reizo looked over the brushes for a little while, though he knew he didn't need any additional ones. After a minute or so, he drifted over to the larger wall of paints, completely bypassing the charcols. He was a painter only. Here was where he paused, eyes flicking up and down the length of the stock to take in the many varied colors. In his head, he compared several things: the colors of the umbrellas he saw today, what he had at home, and just how much, and how much he could afford to splurge on any new and interesting colors he might find. Finally, he turned back to Kei. "A demonstration of the paints, perhaps, is in order?" No matter how much he liked this Gehaka - and he was quickly warming to Kei -, he would not buy a product that did not work.

"Hai, Akimatsu-sama." Kei bowed his head slightly, removing himself from the wall. "Please, pick whichever colors you'd like. Be sure to shake them well before you use them for their full effect." If they weren't shaken, the chemicals inside that kept everything preserved wouldn't be able to thin out the paint.

Kei slid easily through the stocked shelves, picking a cheaper sheaf of parchment from a pile and both detail and blender brush from the line of brushes. It was just a demonstration, nothing to fuss over. The supplies were set on the front table and, after hearing the demand for demonstration, the other Gehaka had fetched a cup full of water to sit next to the brushes. Kei wasn't at all worried about the paint- most of it he'd ended up making himself and he'd made sure it was all smooth and good before he put it on the shelves. The other Gehaka here were experienced in making it too, the only difference between them and himself being he was the one who actually brought in all the color. Unless he left notes on where he'd found a certain color- he kept records of it, the oddity.

"Whenever you're ready, it's right here." Kei kept his eye out, though, curious as to what colors Reizo might pick out.

A slight inclination of the head signaled that Reizo had indeed heard what Kei said, though he didn't yet turn to look at the Gehaka at all. His eyes continued to roam the shelves as he stood impassively.

Finally, the Haka reached up and selected a vial of deep purple paint, beautiful for its richness. He had hardly ever seen such a color, and out of coincidence had remembered seeing a shade quite like it just before, with the umbrellas. Shaking it as directed, he moved gracefully over to where the tools for the demonstration were set up, taking his place in front of them. The detail brush was picked up , dipped lightly in the water, and then dipped into the tube, which he closed deftly. A simple demonstration was all that was needed, and so Reizo first drew a small circle on the parchement, then several radiating lines from the center. Finally, between those lines the brush was applied lightly, so that the overall effect was a crude version of a bird's-eye view umbrella.

"Hmm." Stepping back, Reizo looked at just how the paint appeared on the parchment, if the intensity in the vial was the same effect on the paper. After a few moments, a smile curled on his lips. "Very good indeed." The compliment was given without ever looking at Kei, or the Gehaka nearby, Reizo immediatly turning back to the wall to consider what other colors he might get, even looking over the ink.

The...purple? Well, it certainly was a royal color... He'd found it in a fruit, if memory served him correctly. The juice was very easy to transform into a paint compared to things such as sand and flower petals. When he was complimented, Kei gave a small, acknowledging bow of the head, as well as a "Thank you," because Reizo wasn't looking.

The Gehaka beside him kept passing him subtle nudges as Reizo went to look at the other colors. Was it true? An Akimatsu in their shop? Kei ignored this for a moment, then gave a small, curt nod. Yes, now leave me the ******** alone... The silence hung as the Haka studied the other colors, though the Gehaka behind the counter was fingering his addicus(sp) nervously beneath the table. The Haka seemed to need privacy at the moment, and that was what he'd receive. The looks between the Gehaka were the same- the Haka owner was going to throw a fit just because another Haka had chosen to walk in, but buying something meant good things for the both of them.

Engrossed as he was in actually choosing colors, Reizo didn't notice the exchanges between Kei and the other Gehaka. He continued to actually smile slightly, peering at the different colors once more, going up on tiptoe sometimes to slip a vial out of its spot and then replace it. He wasn't sure exactly what he wanted, but he knew he'd find something.

Eventually, the Haka had selected the same purple paint, as well as a pretty orange-ish yellow color and a brilliant emeral green. He could probably spend much more but...it would be nice to have a legimiate reason to come back to the shop. He couldn't just come because he wanted to see Kei, now could he? People would think things.

Returning to the counter, he placed the the three vials down gently, eyes flickering to Kei for a moment. "How much does this come to?"

Akimatsu Reizo

Reizo was slightly suprised at the low price, tilting his head to one side before digging into his purse to take out the amount of coins that he needed to pay the price. "Indeed...at this price, I am sure I will be back quite often." He'd buy more now, but he didn't quite feel like it. He didn't desperately need these paints, although they would be useful for the print he was planning. Those coins were placed on the counter.

Once more, his gaze returned to the Gehaka's form, but this time to his bare wrists. He had looked there when they first met, but now his eyes lingered. He knew his mother wanted him married...

But Reizo was not the type to simply slap on a marriage bracer at first meeting, no matter how tempted he was to do just that. And he WAS tempted, no doubt about it. He would come back a few more times, and then, well, they would see, wouldn't they?

It wasn't high at the moment because there was no real supply and demand for it yet. As soon as more started leaving the shop, they would raise the price somewhat. There was also the fact to consider that the paints were not much larger than a thick film canister, but Reizo wasn't planning on splashing it all randomly on canvas, was he? There was enough to pour out and blend and enough to paint with unless it was the featured color. It'd probably last for Reizo's umbrella painting and then perhaps a bit more, depending on how many umbrellas he painted that color. The size of the canister was probably that way so there'd be no clutter when it was out and it'd be easy to store it away. That was why Kei could carry so many in his pocket.

When the gaze was turned to his wrists, Kei was none the wiser, for he didn't dare take a peek up at Reizo's face at this point. Normally when one offered to come back, he chose the bare minimum and simply nodded. However... "We would be honored to have you grace this shop with your presence once more." Not 'I', of course, because people would surely think things... But that was pretty much what it meant. He wouldn't mind this Haka coming around again. Next to him, the other Gehaka nodded his head unknowingly, though it was a bit odd for Kei to pass a customer much more than a grunt of acknowledgment.

Reizo nodded, pleased with that answer. He had gotten the feeling that Kei did not hand out pleasentaries that were unnessecary, even to Haka. He collected the three vials, placing them in the purse gently before stepping back. Suddenly, he wanted this other Gehaka gone, if only so he could tip Kei's head up and have the Gehaka look him in the eyes.

The artist was quiet a moment as he schemed, glancing over his shoulder at Shinji, still standing under the awning. After a few more moments, Reizo turned back with a bland smile. "Kei. If you are not needed here" - he glanced around the empty shop, eyes averting for a moment to the weather outside and the bare streets - "perhaps you could accompany me back to my shop? Shinji makes for terrible conversation." There was significance behind that request. He had decided that he wanted to know more about this Gehaka that he was considering marrying.

At the request, Kei almost faltered, worrying his lower lip with his teeth for a moment before he gave a side-long glance at his fellow Gehaka. The Gehaka was waiting for a signal from Kei, on whether he should inform Reizo that Kei was very much needed at the shop. A tanned ear twitched, if only slightly, and the Gehaka looked even more befuddled than before. He shrugged though, making a clear gesture that he had had the shop under control before, and that he could do without Kei just as he had before. The coins were scooped up by the Gehaka and inserted into a purse behind the counter.

"Of course, Akimatsu-sama. I'll accompany you to wherever you'd like me to." Kei straitened and smoothly stepped along-side Reizo, offering a dry arm this time. To the gallery? He'd be able to see the actual inside? Outside, the weather had cleared up for the most part. The shower had moved on, though there were still puddles here and there.

Reizo watched the interesting exchange between Kei and the other Gehaka, tapping his nails against the counter while he waited. Well. Wasn't this...telling?

And then he was terribly pleased, that bland smile turning warmer. He nodded his head at Kei, taking the Gehaka's proffered arm. "Good." Without another backward glance, he began walking to the door, even more pleased when he realized that the weather had cleared up. Though he had actually been planning to shelter Kei from the rain too this time. Once they reached the door itself, Reizo passed the colorful lacquered umbrella to Shinji, also passing him a very significant look that said 'be quiet, stay out of the way, or you'll be in trouble'. He was such a bully to his brother in public, though was slightly less bossy when the family was all at home. The look softened once more as he turned back to Kei, considering him.

Kei quietly watched the umbrella be passed on, then turned his eyes back to the shop ahead. The gallery, right? If there was any other shop, he'd be embarrassed. Then again, if they were going the wrong way Reizo would say something, right? Using this slim bit of reasoning, the Gehaka reassured himself in walking down the line of little shops until he found the path that he thought led to the gallery.

He could feel Reizo's eyes on him and respectfully kept his averted, pretending to be absorbed in watching out for puddles. He'd provide for conversation, but it'd have to be Reizo who started the subject. Gehaka weren't supposed to speak unless spoken to first, and then when he answered he could go on and add what else he thought he needed or really wanted to say. So there was a small silence, in which Kei awaited some sort of opening.

Reizo looked slightly amused. "You can look at me, Kei." He allowed, wanting to see the Gehaka's reaction to this. Towards the beginning, Kei hadn't struck him as shy. Once allowed to be fairly bold again, would he? After a moment he struck up the conversation that he had brought Kei along for. "Tell me, do you like art, or is it simply part of your profession?" The question may have seemed quite random, but not to Reizo. He had a deep-seated contempt for the merchant class, though he did not mind taking their money, and if Kei didn't like art - even though it seemed like he did - he would NEVER do for a first husband.
