Zar didn't let go. The looped feedback of pain and pain and pain was so satisfying and the bite of teeth against his throat, close but not close enough to restrict his breathing had him half delirious. The thorns only made it worse, twisting around him as he twisted his tail around them in turn.
It was only when he could taste blood that he finally let go, breathless and ragged, perhaps having overstepped the mark by just a shadow. At his chest the mark tingled, like falling from a height, but he had no intention of harming the other demon. Or at least harming him more.
He did not put Barth down.

Barth clutched his throat, but his neck was more bruised than broken.
The same marks stood out on Zar's neck. The thorns relaxed, marginally, neither of them could afford any more injury, but still-
Barth kissed Zar, but even as their lips met, with Zar's head the size of Barth's torso, Barth cautioned him with a strained, "Careful." They had to be careful, he ached all over, he was very close to...close to dissipating.
