Cas folded his wings in close to his back as he listened to Syrikk speak. All the things he was saying were things he already knew. Things he had already experienced, in some ways, himself. There was nothing in this world he wouldn’t give to be able to live, simply, in peace with Lithian but Casseth knew, that with the way the world was now, that wasn’t going to happen. Eventually things would be thrown at them that wouldn’t be pleasant. Not that they hadn’t already. Casseth had almost died because of his hybrid status and he had been harassed many times for both that and his relationship with Lithian. “I love Lithian, Syrikk. I would give my life if it meant he would get to keep his. As long as I’m alive to do so, I will protect him. You have my word.”

“I don’t suppose I could ask more of you than that then, could I?” Syrikk said. “I will be sure to drop in from time to time…and give word to the rest of my siblings, in case the fact is that they, too, had not heard of Lithian’s interaction with mother…” Syrikk frowned, and after a long moment, shook his head. “Well. Enough of that topic. Now that we have it out of the way…” He glanced back down the beach to where the house was and then spread his arms out, smiling more genuinely. “The location here is lovely. I must say, most of Eowyn isn’t much my ideal climate, but I was very impressed with the house, and Lili must love the view. How did you manage to claim such a spot? Even here, it must have cost a sizable portion…”

Casseth winced slightly at the mention of Lithian and Syrikk’s mother. He hated that he had been the cause for the rift between their families but he let the subject drop as Syrikk had suggested. He followed the dovaa’s gaze back to the house, smiling at the view. “We built it. It started out as a surprise for Lithian. So much had gone on...the visit with your mother, moving into a small place of our own...it was just time for a change. I suddenly had a lot of time on my hands, what with quitting the pit, so I began work.” He eyed Syrikk carefully. “All of this was for him, built around his wants and likes. Though I do admit, the ocean has grown on me a lot these past years.” A small smile curled up his lips.
“Finally learned to swim. I had actually just come in from a swim shortly before you arrived.” He pointed over to the sunning rock out some ways from the house. “Did that the day he came back from the Celestial Plane.” His smile faded briefly. “I am sorry for any pain I’ve caused your family. It was never my intention to put space between you all.” Cas sighed, closing his eyes and shaking his head. “I am glad you showed up, though. Lithian needed it.”

Syrikk shook his head. “Things happen as they will. My mother is stubborn, and Lithian is generally very giving…I suspect she simply relied on her assumption that throwing an ultimatum before him would encourage him to come home or follow some other path. Now that he has stood up for himself…” Syrikk shrugged. “That, though, is again, a topic for another time.”
Syrikk turned the conversation back to more lighthearted subjects, asking Casseth a handful more questions as well as providing information about himself and stories about Lithian, his other siblings, and their childhood. They worked their way back to the house and spent time there together with Lithian included until well into evening until eventually, the hour forced him to depart. He took his leave with promises to return, however, as well as his word to contact the rest of their scattered family and expressions of eagerness to witness their eventual mating ceremony.
