He regretted letting go of her hand almost as much as he regretted grasping it in the first place. This conflict inside of his mind was painful, too painful sometimes to even bear, but he needed to, and he needed to focus on what was at stake here.
"White roses," Aurostibite repeated, with a slow nod. "White roses are very beautiful."
Like you, was the unspoken rest of his sentence that he couldn't say. He twisted his gloves in his lap and took a deep, steadying breath; his fingers curled over the brim of his hat. A glance at Mintaka was stolen before he allowed himself to look more fully at her.
"...thank you," he said quietly. "For...for your patience."

She smiled at him again, agreeing with his sentiments as far as the flowers and repouring his tea, as she had been fumbling about just moments before.
"and you? Do you have a favorite flower Auro?" She asked simply, quite content with the ease the conversation was going now.
His thanks made her look up again, and the smile widened more. "I should be thanking you! After all, you are the one giving me a chance." She laughed, reaching over gently and lifting the brim of his hat.
"You should stop hiding behind there. I already see you." She teased gently, and let her hand drop again, this time to her cup that drew up for a sip.. For a moment, she was quiet...
"Do you like being in the negaverse Auro?"

It was easier to talk about mundane things, simpler. Aurostibite smoothed a hand over the front of his coat, frowning slightly but more out of thought than annoyance or displeasure. "I like..."
There was a pause as he considered, clearly struggling internally for such a normal question.
"...red roses," he said, after a moment, and a surprising blush seemed to paint across his face. It was a cliched answer, and he was vaguely embarrassed of such a thing, but Aurostibite cleared his throat, taking a deep breath. A hand crossed his line of vision, and then he felt his hat shift; Mintaka's face appeared, a gentle smile on her lips.
The flush deepened. Aurostibite looked away.
"...a habit," he mumbled, but her next question made his eyes cut sideways to her again, inhaling sharply.
"Yes," he said, without hesitation. "It is my home."
(Even as he said it, he wondered if it was still true.)

"Red roses!" She grinned, laughing a little. "It's like a pair together! White and Red roses. Simple and elegant and wonderful. They often blend well together..." She rambled happily enough, and as she realized what she was saying, her flush deepened to match Auro's.
"It's not a bad one, I hope I don't make you uncomfortable." She eased again, fiddling with her cup. "I just prefer to see your face. Although it is quite adorable too, as you move it down." She closed her eyes. "Oh just ignore me, I am just a silly little...anyways!"
She nodded and understood.
"That's good, As long as it makes you happy? It is a good but misguided home. You and the negaverse have all the right ideals. It's something to admire about your cause...." She smiled sadly, "Even if they deem me a alien..."

White and red roses. He had not even realized the truth of that before Mintaka had spoken it, and now Aurostibite's face turned a darker shade of red, his fingers fumbling together as he searched in vain for something to keep them occupied.
But he could not help recalling that it was not the only similarity between the two of them; their mutual usage of the paper cranes had been completely unexpected and yet strangely connecting, and it was this that Aurostibite was still afraid of.
The universe kept pushing them together, even without the addition of the future memories.
"You don't make me uncomfortable," Aurostibite said quietly. "And you are not silly. You are...very kind. And you are gentle."
It was all true; he lifted his head to regard her from where he sat, and he wished that he could say more, do more to discern the thoughts inside of his head, so that he could make her happy when he knew he could not. They were on opposite sides of a war, after all.
A small smile tugged a the corners of his lips; barely visible, but still there.
"You aren't like any alien I would have expected to see."

"But..." She breathed out, "It just feels like I am rushing something I shouldn't..." She wanted to point out all the similar things between them, the interests they both shared, the moments they could have if...if...
Then she felt ashamed for being disappointed in him for not just accepting them.
She was quiet, disappearing in her own world for a moment to think when his comment startled her.
She blinked and then smiled in return to his, even if it was small and hard to see.
"How many aliens have you seen then Auro?" She teased, sipping her tea, "I don't feel alien, but I don't feel quite right here. Sometimes I wonder if it would be right to go back to...my 'home' planet. That is what a lot of people want after all." She sipped again.

Were they rushing? Was she rushing? He didn't have the answer to that, nor did he even know if he would have answered it even if he did. Aurostibite remained silent for several moments, his mind working furiously to comprehend what was necessary in order to move forward, but there was nothing but confusion.
He hated this indecision, this inability to know.
Aurostibite had picked up his tea to take a sip, but now lowered it a little, setting it back down to the table. His chest was unpleasantly tight, though his face remained as stoic as ever, revealing little to nothing of what he truly felt.
"I am sure there would be those that would miss you if you went back," he said quietly.
