Jordan

Jordan shrugged one shoulder, said, straightfaced, "I figured it was a pretty good look." He didn't relax, not quite, but some of the stiffness in his posture thawed out. Rep didn't seem to want to kick him out today, or to fight right now, and that was a relief; there was a lot that still lay unresolved, a deep well of hurt and unhappiness that they'd only begun to deal with, but the infirmary room was a silent reminder that every time one of them went out on a mission, there was the chance that they weren't coming back. Too much and too heavy, known and unknown, and the personal problems could wait, for now.

Trouble often was Rep's fault, but Jordan hadn't been there, didn't know what had happened. "Yeah?" he asked. "Did you kick a yeti in the nuts or something?" Making a joke out of it, an oblique and sidewise approach that would let Rep answer the question if he wanted to or deflect it with another joke if he didn't. Careful in a way he hadn't been in too long, and maybe, he thought in a small corner of himself, that had been part of the problem.

Al

He entered the room, hurried and devoid of introduction. Rep would know it was him anyway. He set the mints and thermos down beside.... the other mints and hot cocoa from previous guests that had already beat him to it. He stared at the pile and felt a small clutch in his gut. He wasn't needed here was he? He frowned thoughtfully but shook the idea off like a bad dream. He turned to Rep with a tired and clearly forced smile.

"I'd hate to see what you did to that pack of yetis," Rep was always on that imaginary pedestal. Al wasn't that stupid though, he knew Rep was in really rough shape and was certain he was lucky to be alive. Every time it happened it got harder and harder to pretend he hadn't noticed and that there wasn't some part of him that wasn't at least a little bit worried.

He shuffled over to Rep's bed and flopped his upper half on him and tried to give him a careful hug. Careful because of the injuries and careful because Harrison might stab him. "I'm glad you're okay man."

Except he probably wasn't okay.

Cee

Flirting was Cee's first language, even beyond being a normal person, so positive response put her immediately in a comfort zone.

"Hey.." She waggled fingers at Harrison, someone she still only knew from the internet and a dream.

"Yeah but like.. white and red wit garters? Or the ********.. flying nun hat kinda nurse? Hahah.." Cee pulled a chair over, dropping into it roughly an crossing her legs. She handed over the cocoa, which steamed in the travel cup, and sat the altoids tin on the bedside table with a clank.

"Ya look aright?" It came out like a question. "Am I allow'ta ask wha'happened?"

Because guards.

America

Rep closed his eyes, but found that doing so just pushed him further into the memory of what had happened, the slow drawn out death of the people he'd attacked. And when he'd come to he'd run, tried to get away to save them. He wished he'd thought of what America had done, he could have saved them the torment he put him through. He kept hold of the bear, too far away in his own thoughts and memories to even properly register it as anything other than a vague source of comfort.

"I didn't." he said. "I kept on and on. Sometimes I ran away but it wasn't for long. It was dark they didn't have a chance." He wasn't optimistic about his prospects at a trial.

The word winner once again stirred something primal in him, that feeling that he had to win no matter what, that he had to climb atop a mountain of the fallen and claim.... he didn't know what he was supposed to claim. But he'd found himself denied it, and there was some manner of sorrow tied to that, tangled up with the sorrow at how he'd lost control. "The winners don't come back?" he asked reluctantly, concerned that he had narrowly avoided something even more terrible than the ordeal.

The mention of Leslie reminded him of their conversation, he hadn't realized the extent of what the other man had meant when he'd mentioned Russia.

Jordan

Rep didn't relax entirely either, despite his tone. He didn't understand why Jordan was there after staying away from him for what felt like so very long. He didn't even think that it had gone two ways, all that mattered was that the other man had been avoiding him and that more and more he felt like a stranger. He could have been doing anything with his life, anything at all, even bad mouthing Rep to anyone who would listen.

Tracey said levelly. Rep ignored him.

"I wish it had just been a yeti. Some s**t went down, I wasn't in control of myself. I mean really." he stressed. It had not been a lapse in self control in the same way it normally was, it had been so much more impossible to resist.

"Four people are dead, I survived" he added.

Al
Rep wasn't complaining in the least about the gifts, even if he already had a growing heap of free s**t, one could never quite get enough free s**t. Besides, he still was sure he could taste the rank and awful taste of raw human bits periodically, he could not get enough mints.

"You should see the other guy has not been more ******** appropriate in a long time." but he did not sound very pleased about it.

Rep was also not ok with the hug, stopping Al at arm's length with a cringe. "No man." he said. "I ******** hurt all over." And this was true, he did hurt all over, but part of him also did not want any kind of physical contact at all, not when he still felt like he was covered in blood, not when his skin was raw and sore from the cold. He didn't want anyone close enough to be injured by him.

Cee

"I'm a sucker for uniforms, doesn't even ******** matter what kind. Could be a ******** matron nurse thing and you'd be able to pull it off I bet." He approved of Cee, she was much closer to what he felt like women should be, how they theoretically should pursue strength. She didn't need muscles or trappings of masculinity, she was a different species of weapon. It was easier to admire her than dwell on his current state.

"Appreciate it." he said taking a long sip of the hot chocolate before he went on.

"Red eyes I think they are calling it. One minute was me, the next I was ******** trying to murder the entire base I was supposed to be helping. Succeeded too. I was out of my ******** mind the whole time, one minute walking back, next minute I'm ******** trying to attack Ace here and covered in blood and all sorts."

Jordan

Jordan had heard out of control before, but there was something about the way Rep held himself, the thread of something unidentified and bleak underneath the words; when Rep's self-control slipped, there was a certain kind of half-defiant guilt in the aftermath, and this was different. Jordan just nodded, dropping the teasing tone to say quietly, seriously, "I'm glad you survived."

Al

Al tilted his head at Rep as he was shoved to arms length. He looked both startled and... well... sad. "What happened?" He didn't really want to know. He shoved his hands in his pockets and shifted anxiously. He badly wanted to be helpful but all he could do right now was stand there really.

He considered pacing, but decided to stay put as long as he could.

"Isn't there anything I can do?" There was clearly desperation in his tone. He considered trying to say or do something stupid to lighten the mood but he really didn't feel like it right this minute and was afraid of making whatever had happened worse.

The whole funeral kind of vibe tended to do that.

Cee

"Fuuuuck." Cee perched her behind on the edge of a chair and listened in rapt attention. It sounded awful, in the way that someone describing a scary movie may be scary but the listener was devoid of true context. Her only comparable situation was the green-eyed zombies and then the string of paranoia that had infected and run among them.

"Monsters'r easy.." The brunette pouted slightly, "but I ain't like that s**t where ya can't control yerself. Like that ******** zombie mission." Wasn't the type to make those sort of connections, if they were similar or tied together. Cee wasn't a deep or analytical thinker.

She hadn't planned on staying all day, what could they really talk about? Already she was hovering like she would leave, because she couldn't sit still or because she had other stops to make. Either way she'd made her gesture of good will and a brief appearance. Appearance was everything.

"Ya need anythin else? Need me ta go rile s**t up in yer bar, make sure them ******** are on their toes? I'll narc em out to you?" She grinned, half standing.

America

"From what they told me, the majority of bases hit by it have one person missing. Even with extra survivors in mine, this one Death, Randall Flynn? Big a** hammer? He killed Bernice and disappeared. Edith said it sounded like whatever was causing this s**t? Was doing it to recruit folks, the ones that go the ******** distance to impress it and end up last man standing."

America's lips compressed, not just at the fact that it was ongoing, that nothing was truly over. She'd lost. There was a sense of failure that she couldn't shake. there were no regrets in losing. She would not have it the other way. The the feeling lingered despite it all.

Jordan

"Me too." Rep said grimly. "I'm glad I survived and just as ******** glad I came back at all. Ace was there at the right time and no more seriously." He looked at the floor distantly. "From what I hear, some people don't ******** come back, even if they survive. I don't think I would have come back on my own"

Not that he expected Jordan to care a great deal about that, sure the man had come to visit him, but that was more like obligation than the day to day. He hadn't otherwise spoken to Rep much at all, and the redhead had taken it to heart.

"I'd just have been gone, presumed dead. People would be ******** glad of it."

Al

"A lot of s**t happened." he said. "It ended up with people dead and me in trouble." He didn't want to go into the grim and awful details of the thing, it would only tarnish his reputation still further with the other hunter. "And what you are doing is just fine, I appreciate people coming to visit a lot, people don't always need to be ******** useful."

Still, he couldn't help but feel irritated, distinctly of the impression that Al didn't like it when he was upset or injured and wanted it to stop. Every time he took it as a slight, angry at the other man for even coming to visit if he was going to make it awkward.

"What have you been doing exactly?" he said.

Cee

"Aye. Its ******** bullshit." he said with a nod. "You can't punch something that's inside your own head. Hopefully they figure out what the ******** it is before we need to deal with it here on the island." He did notice her body language and didn't want to keep her.

"Nah man, that's all, I appreciate it." he gave her a wolfish grin. "Any additional grassing up ******** at the bar though will have to be rewarded with cheap booze I'm afraid."

America

"That is ******** up." he said, with a definite edge of anxiety. "It's only at the bases right? They didn't just lose their ******** minds and run off later? I'm not going to ******** just ******** off into a portal and never be seen again?" he didn't know what had made the weird effect stop or start and had no idea if it was gone permanently or merely receded for the moment.

"I don't want to be a ******** liability." he said, exhaling heavily before anger once again picked up. "You know I shouldn't ******** have been able to hurt them the way I did? I used ******** fears. I shouldn't be able to use fears on people at all."

He clenched his hands into fists. "******** Marie didn't stop anything. I don't even know if the ******** cuff would stop me here." And here he turned serious again. "Have you had any lapses since?"
