Lydia graced him with one of her very large grins. "That's okay, I can't sing very well either~ But that's part of what makes it so fun!" She giggled into her hand, clearly over the moon at the prospect of being allowed to sing a duet with her "date" for the evening.

"I remembered you said you lived in Nebraska." She nodded, "So besides passing through here, and living in New Zealand as well, where else have you been?" She asked with a fervent sense of curiosity, clearly eager to learn more about this man that had somehow decided to consider her a friend, and who didn't seem to judge her in any way negatively for her behavior thus far.

His laugh when she pulled out the chair for him was met with one of her own, though her cheeks managed to blush a faint pink when he touched her face with his fingers. "I don't think anybody has ever called me a lady before!" She grinned, and when he sat down, she wrapped her arms around him from behind for a quick hug, fingers trailing casually against his chest, a motion that was by no means purposeful (though she did enjoy what little she could feel, able to imagine how very muscular his pecs must be beneath his shirt).

But the hug itself was very quick, given with a laugh before she traipsed back around the table to her own chair, falling into it in such a way that it rocked precariously on two legs to one side her fingers gripping the seat tightly as she let out an overexcited sound of both delight and fear before it settled back down.

"SO!" She exclaimed, hands coming up to press down on the tables edge, eyes drawing down towards the menu. "Any recommendations?"

Arorangi found he rather enjoyed those large grins of Lydia's; they were enthusiastic and charming, and very reminiscent of her personality. A little quirky, a little fun, and a little bright all rolled into one to spread across her face and remind him why they were friends in the first place.

"Okay, then!" said Arorangi firmly. "It is decided, then, we will sing together after dinner, and we will have a great time!"

"And yes," he added, smoothing the front of his shirt down. "Nebraska and New Zealand, my two homes! And that is unfortunately as far as I have traveled, other than where we are now." A booming laugh escaped him, Arorangi shaking his head so that several dreadlocks fell free from their clasp and fell loosely over his broad shoulders. "I wish I could say that I have been elsewhere so that you could learn more of the world, but alas."

Lydia's thin arms wound around him from behind; it took him by surprise, his eyes widening momentarily - but then Arorangi found himself relaxing easily into her embrace, lifting a hand to pat her hand where it rested over him. She drew away quickly, however, too quick, and then was seated across from him, looking a little flushed and excited.

It was already turning out to be a good night, and they hadn't even had dinner yet. Arorangi beamed across the table at Lydia.

"You should get what you want!" he urged her, grinning. "Get whatever you like, it is obviously my treat!"

The way his dreadlocks fell free from their clasp was noted, and Lydia wondered if now might be a good time for some of those subtle touches that Cee had told her to use. So, before she pulled away completely, a hand reached up to brush across his cheek, carefully, oh so carefully, as she reached for his dreadlocks and pulled them back, gently, though her hand did shake slightly with the effort not to mess this up by pulling too hard or acting too hastily.

But before she could fasten them back into their clasp, she thought better of it. She found that, actually, she rather liked how Arorangi looked with his hair down, and she released the dreads, allowing them to slip through her fingers to rest wherever they saw fit to rest, for all the world behaving as though just touching his hair had been her intention all along. She hoped that he didn't find it weird. She hoped, in fact, that perhaps another time, she could touch his hair again, because it had felt different, but nice, and she would have loved to further examine him if ever given the opportunity to do so.

All of that had only taken a short moment, and she was in her seat, examining the menu as advised before jabbing a finger down on one item, and then another, and another, as she made her decision.

"I'm going to get the calamari, the hot wings, and a 12" hacker pizza!"

It was a big order, but Lydia, for such a small person, had a gigantic appetite.

Arorangi felt the tips of warm fingers dance across his face, and his eyes widened a little, startled into silence. He blinked at Lydia, unmoving as she fiddled with the thick dreadlocks, first tucking them back a little and then letting them rest gently against his shoulders. After the first few initial seconds of surprise, he relaxed, a smile flickering into existence on his face.

"Thank you," he told her, as she sat back down, staring intently at her menu. "I always have trouble keeping it all under control, but I am glad you are here to help me."

He didn't bat an eye at Lydia's rather extravagant order, Arorangi's small smile widening into a grin. "Hot wings and a 12 inch for myself as well," he said, folding the menu and instead looking across the table at Lydia. For a moment he was quiet.

"I am very glad to be here with you, Lydia," he said.

Lydia's hands slid to the edge of the table, gripping it tight as she looked back up to Arorangi and leaned forward, eyes wide, though still blinking at regular intervals, her head tilting first to one side, and then the other as if she were inspecting him.

"Your hair is lovely, no matter what you do with it. Wild, tied back, half tied back....I think I like wild best." She grinned, and shrugged her shoulders, reaching to her menu to close it now that her decision on food had been made. "And the texture of it is quite nice. Different, but nice." She added, feeling it not at all odd behavior to be having an in depth conversation about Aro's hair.

For a moment, after Arorangi spoke his own order, everything was quiet. Well, it might have seemed that way to everyone else at least, but to Lydia, her heart began to pound so loud she could barely hear anything else. But that was silly. She shouldn't be embarrassed that Arorangi was looking at her. After all, they were very good friends! But still, she could feel her face warming, and when he said that he was glad to be there with her, she couldn't help but give him one of her usual, face splitting grins.

"Thank you. I...well, you must know by now that I feel the same I mean, of course you do." She laughed, a little nervously, but still she laughed. He always said such kind things! of course, it must have been normal for her to feel shy about such treatment. It was, after all, something she was not used to in the slightest.

She wanted to say more. About how she hoped that they could do it again. And again and again and again--but well, this time wasn't even over yet! And who knew what the night still held in store. At any moment, he could decide that it was really a catastrophe, and her company was not as pleasurable as it seemed.

But no. That wouldn't happen with Arorangi. He was...different. He was positive and cheerful and she knew that he surely only saw the good in everybody, and she was grateful for that, so grateful, because it meant that they could be friends, and she could be herself.

Her cheeks were, of course, still flushed, and her eyes began to roam, flicking back and forth rapidly. "Now, where has our waitress gone?"

She was such a curious sort; wide-eyed and interested in everything, like a deer would be, and certainly as awkwardly graceful as a doe. But there was something about that awkwardness that Arorangi found very appealing, and maybe it was because she was as friendly and open as she was, or maybe it was that big heart of hers - but whatever it was, he liked it very much.

"Thank you," Arorangi said, and laughed. "Wild is how I have it most of the time, I will admit," he added, a little ruefully. "I am afraid I am not very talented or knowledgeable when it comes to things like hair and clothing, so I just do what it is that I can to look at least somewhat presentable."

He winked at her, tapping his fingers idly against the plastic menu. There it was again, though, the gentle blush across her cheeks, and the wide smile on her face, a smile he had started to grow used to. The laughter sounded a little off, but it wasn't unpleasant, and Lydia was clearly pleased about being here, which in turn made Arorangi pleased.

"If we have a good night, we should eat dinner together again," he suggested with a warm smile, and then his eyes lit up. "It could be a weekly thing! We do not always have to go off of the island to eat, but we should have a weekly dinner together, it would be fun!"

The waitress swung up by their table, popping her gum and beaming brightly at the pair of them.

"What'll it be, sugars?" she asked with a grin. "I'm Lady, your waitress for the evening. Can I start you two sweet things off with a beverage or two?"

A large grin (when wasn't she grinning) and Lydia let out a small peal of laughter. "Me too. I mean, me neither. I mean...." She gave her head a small shake, curls that were for once tamed bouncing around her shoulders. "You've probably noticed my clothes and hair aren't exactly, well..." her voice trailed off again, unsure of how best to even describe her own sense of fashion.

"But you!" She continued on, determined not to be at a complete loss for words. "You, at least, pull the look off well." Of course he did. With that handsome face, and those rippling biceps, he could pull off any look, she was sure. "You're gorgeous." She smiled, back to blushing, her head ducking down as her cheeks burned. "And would be no matter what."

His offer to eat dinner again only earned him a nod as she bit down on her lip. What was she doing? She felt like a fool but at the same time, she just couldn't help herself from making such bold statements, especially if she thought it the truth. Still, she knew, it likely wasn't the proper way for her to behave. Mentally, she scolded herself, and promised to be a little more restrained. Subtlety, however, was obviously not her strong suit.

"I would like that." She finally looked up again after a deep breath, about to say more when they were suddenly come upon by the waitress.

"Oh! Hi, wow, aren't you just lovely. A lovely lady." Lydia giggle snorted at her own ridiculous joke, before saying. "How about just a water, for now. Oh! Or maybe a red wine?" That would be okay, right? Lydia didn't drink often, but she felt like one might not be so bad. "Just your house red, please, I'm not picky!"

Lydia's smiles were made of sunshine, Arorangi decided, and her laughter made of bells. Or something else more poetic, but either way, he could quite fathom how anyone would dislike Lydia Stiles because she was just plain lovely to be around.

"I think your clothes and hair are just fine," Arorangi told her firmly. "You are who you are, and I like you just fine like that. You should not want to change, stay how you are! Is that not how we have become friends? I like being around you as you are now!"

Her comment about him being gorgeous made him laugh, Arorangi shaking his head. "You are very kind, aroha," he said, beaming at her. Internally, he felt a strange sort of twist to his stomach, which he tried to ignore. "But you are the gorgeous one, not me."

The waitress was given a big smile as well. Arorangi waited for Lydia to order first and then he added, "I would like wine as well, if you please. Same as the lady here, and some waters."

The waitress wave a hand and left. Arorangi's eyes moved back to Lydia, and he said, "Okay, now that we are here - you must tell me more about yourself."

It reminded her so much of what Cee had said. Don't go changing who you are. If a guy was going to like her, like in the really like her sort of way, then it would be the whole package, personality and all. Arorangi liked her for who she was (unless he was the worlds best liar, which she was pretty sure was impossible, she could never see him lying), and because of that, here they were! But her visit with Cee hadn't been meant for the other woman to help her find a boyfriend. The information she gained from that visit was meant to be utilized in a different sort of fashion. An experiment. Little more than a game.

But this wasn't a game. This was more like an indulgence, a glimpse of what she might have always wanted but had never had time for. Moments like these, just having fun, a date, a dinner with a close friend, whatever it needed to be called. A moment to feel special, like she mattered to somebody. With Aro, she could be herself. Around her test subjects, she would surely need to be somebody different.

When the waitress wandered off with their drink order in mind. For a moment, she spaced out, smiling to herself, gazing somewhere over Arorangi's left shoulder as her mind wandered to her work. But when he asked his question, she blinked, and her smile grew.

"I never know how to answer you when you ask me that! Let's see...." She hummed to herself, a finger tapping against her chin. "I've been to seventeen...Wait! No! Eighteen different countries. I can speak eight different languages, though I'm only fluent in six...and having said that now, I'm so out of practice with those that I might be more than a bit rusty. Did I tell you how I came to Deus? If you tell me your story, I'll tell you mine." A large grin, and a Lydia was leaning against the table with her chin propped up in her hand.

Arorangi was, in fact, not the world's best liar, and instead was probably the worst liar ever because of his open and honest face and his desire to stray towards the truth all the time. And his time with Lydia was not spent out of an urge to analyze, or a tendency towards curiosity, but rather a genuine desire to spend time with a young woman that he found both engaging and interesting - not to mention endlessly fun.

Now that he thought about it a little more, the more time he spent with Lydia, the more time Arorangi seemed to want to spend with Lydia. Her company wasn't just appreciated, but sought out, and other than Oliver, whom Arorangi considered to be one of his closest friends on Deus, Lydia was the person he thought of first when he wished to talk.

(He wasn't sure what that meant, really, but it gave him a warm and happy feeling anyway.)

Arorangi's smile was gentle. "Yes, but I like learning about you," he said with a laugh. "Even if you do not know how to answer."

He toyed with the edge of a napkin, eyes widening a little. "That is a very great number of countries!" he said in surprise. "That is amazing! I have always loved to travel, though I did not do any of it; I did wish to see more of the world."

Arorangi's grin widened. "You wish to hear my story of how to came to Deus, is that what you are asking? It is not that interesting, I am afraid. I was in Nebraska at the time, and I was working at a friend's farm when I was approached. I thought to myself that it would be a good opportunity, that I could do well in such a place."

PostPosted: Sun Jan 11, 2015 8:17 pm

"Well, yes, it was all very exciting! But you know, now you can do all the traveling you want! Anywhere in the world, just a portal away." She snapped her fingers. "I could show you all of the places I've already seen, or you could go somewhere completely new! Of course, two days a month isn't nearly enough time to really experience a culture to it's fullest but...." Her voice trailed off, and for just a split second, she frowned, a strange feeling of sadness rolling through her briefly as she considered all that she'd lost by being brought to Deus.

"Well, it's the best we're going to get, really." Beyond the few missions that sent them to foreign lands for weeks at a time, of course, an opportunity that she actually looked forward to.

With her chin propped up on her hands, it was quite easy to stare at Arorangi with an almost dreamy expression, gaze wandering over handsome and chiseled features before meeting his eyes with her own and waiting for him to tell her about how he had wound up on Deus. She was all prepared for a thrilling tale of some sort, and was rather glad for a chance to get to know more about him.

She gave her head a nod, her mouth splitting into a toothy grin. "Yes. Proceed." She brought up her second hand, chin soon resting on both while she waited.

She couldn't actually believe that his story could be uninteresting. He had to be joking! She knew it was going to be full of excitement and adventure. It just had to be!

....It wasn't.

"Why did you think you would do well?" She pressed. "What made you believe it was a good idea?" Surely there had to be more to the story then just this!

"Very true," said Arorangi with a laugh, his eyes bright. "You are very right, you and I should go on a trip sometime! We can go all over the place, two days is just enough time if we do not have to worry about plane trips! That is what takes up a lot of time, is it not? Without the plane rides, we could spend all the time we wanted!"

He was getting very excited about this, in spite of the fact that nothing was actually set in stone. Arorangi reached across the table and grasped one of Lydia's hands, giving it a little squeeze.

"I would very much like to spend more time with you!" he said eagerly, a happy smile on his face. "You are the closest friend that I have here on the island, besides Oliver, and I think spending time together is very important! We can do many things together!"

He released her hand and brushed a stray dreadlock from his shoulder. A look of mild embarrassment was on his face; he had seemed a little vibrant right there, but he didn't regret his enthusiasm, or his truthful statements.

Arorangi reached for his drink and took a sip, laughing. "I am not sure. Maybe the promise of adventure?" he asked, shaking his head in amusement. "Maybe I thought that I could be a better person somehow, if I was able to do good in the world! Fighting monsters is good, yes?"

When he said it like that, it was hard not to get excited. Her sadness swept away by a few enthusiastic sentences, ones where Arorangi included her in his plans to travel, a fact that made her very happy indeed. Time away from the island. Time away together, much like they were now, only with less food and more action and adventure! Lydia wanted it. No, she needed it. She had been cooped up on the island for far, far too long.

When he reached for one of her hands, she was almost startled. His skin felt so warm against hers, it was jolting, but not in an unpleasant way. She grinned, and nodded her head, her hair bobbing around her shoulders. "Yes! That sounds so lovely! I would absolutely love to and...Oh!" She couldn't help but blush, for what felt like the millionth time, at his words. His closest friend? She liked the sound of that! And she had to agree. She had never felt so close to somebody before as she did to Arorangi now. He was, without a doubt, an absolute treasure that she was endlessly grateful for.

Her nodding was less enthusiastic and her smile more on the pleasant rather than exuberant side when he spoke of his reasons for joining Deus. "Adventure. I had that before. To be a better person is quite noble. Fighting monsters...I think it depends on the monster. Some are not quite so bad as others." She remembered Wonderpark. She remembered the large Bigfoot that had seemed so gentle, but she also remembered the giant spider creature that had killed her friend. "I believe, in many cases, it is all just a matter of respect. Showing it, giving it, expecting some in return." She continued, lifting her chin from her hands, which folded back down to the table top, fingers lacing together.

And then she chewed on her bottom lip for a moment, before reaching over and grabbing for her glass of water, which she took a small sip from.

"When we get back to Deus, you should look up the files on WonderPark. My story is, well, rather lengthy." She grinned. "And also rather sad, in many ways. Tragic, really." She admitted, as she set her glass back down. "But if you read the files...they should tell you everything." She had given them all of the information she could, everything she had done to survive, every demise that she had witnessed. It was a grim topic, and one that she decided was not, perhaps, the best dinner time conversation.

The best thing about Arorangi - at least in his mind - was that he was, in fact, an open book that was mostly made of cheer, good-natured fun, and a lot of appreciation for things dealing with the ocean. There was hardly a negative bone in his body, which made it easier to handle things sometimes - but it also made him a tad naive in a certain sense, because it was a lot harder to accept the bad side of the world.

Lydia's blush was noted and received with one of his own, Arorangi flushing happily as he squeezed her hand. She was much easier to read than a lot of people, and he was endlessly grateful for her support and her friendship.

"I very much like to hear about your cases," he said enthusiastically. "I have not read much about the monsters, but I would very much like to know what it is that you study! There are many things in this world that have mysterious explanations, or no explanations at all, and it is very intriguing to see what they are all about!"

He reached for his own drink and took another sip, his brows raising. "Wonder Park?" Arorangi repeated curiously, tilting his head at her. "That is not familiar to me, but it is a subject that seems to make you sad, aroha." He frowned a little worriedly. "I am sorry to hear that it is tragic, that is...very hard. If you do not wish to talk about such things, I understand."
