Kumiho couldn't help but laugh. "Of course it didn't work, you silly little colt," she said. Her voice was so bright and melodic, despite her bitter words. "You can't -become- a Kalona. You were born a weak, flat-toothed horse with wings and you will die as one, too." She scoffed.

She looked him over, a smirk settling on her lips. "Well, if you can call those wings," she said, motioning to the bloody stumps on his back.

"Of course now," she elaborated, "You're a murderer as well."

LIES! LIES! Not only had he been deceived by this simple creature, but he had been made a fool, manipulated.. and much, MUCH worse.

He was so far past the point of guilt or empathy over the life he had taken - hatred towards his father and any who aligned themselves with him had taken a deep seed in his heart. But to be deceived, to have this prize taken away from him, to be forever branded not only as his father's son, but even now - his pride - the ability to fly shredded by his own power.

Familiar fury boiled over as Firestorm lurched forward with a strangled whinny.

"I Hope that your deceit was worth your LIFE!" He snapped at the fox with bared teeth.

Kumiho wasn't usually one for direct confrontation with another Soquili; she was small and weak and her lack of brute strength was her greatest weakness. However, the blood was pumping through her body with excited vigor - while Firestorm was weak and sick she was alive and flush with glee.

As he lunged; in an instant she was no longer that cute, innocent fox. Her body shifted and the air around her seemed to shimmer as she changed. The fox was gone, replaced by a stunning visage; a beautiful but deadly Purewalker.

Kumiho easily leaped out of the way as he lunged. "Fool!" she taunted him, reaching out to strike at him with her claws, right across his face where his fur was still crusted over with the blood and bile. "You're as stupid as you are unworthy."

Firestorm's unsteady charge faltered and he nearly fell back onto his haunches as the innocuous fox shimmered and changed, and in a flash to his addled state, claws cut across his muzzle.

Hot anger flash-cooled to fear, and he backpedaled. The scratches across his nose less of a concern than the very real threat, and mingling with the other aches and pains he had put his own body through.

"You're a purewalker." he breathed, stating the obvious, eyes wide as saucers, but having a difficult time articulating much more through the pain, anger, and fear.

"Very astute observation," she said with a wicked smile. "What are you thinking, right now? In this very moment, what does it feel like? You raged a war against the stallion that brought you into the world and the mother that took you in as her own.

You murdered your sister. You ate her heart. All because you believed a lie- a lie you so desperately wanted to believe.....tell me!" she insisted, nearly cackling, pacing around him in a wide circle.

Firestorm pivoted as she circled him, keeping his eyes (and horn) on the predator as she spoke. But his legs still quivered, his chest heaving as he struggled with his rage and bile. A growing part of him just wanted to lash out at her, despite the fact that he knew that he would lose - against a purewalker and in this weakened state. It almost would be worth an end to this humiliation. Having to face his family disfigured and defeated.

For now, he reigned himself back, spitting at her, "They deserved it. For what they did to me, to my family. They think themselves so mighty, but they are fearful of those that are stronger than them. And my allies, my family... they have paved the way for us to take their home from them." He bared his teeth in a mockery of a smile, trying to grasp to the one success he thought he had. that was what was most important. The feathers would grow back. He did not mourn his sister.

"You have failed, Oh Featherless One," she mocked. "Do you not smell the smoke in the air? Fire is ravaging the Kawani lands, and Thunderbird Mountain is now just a smouldering pyre. Your allies have fled, and Balrog and his ilk have taken hold in the north of the mountain. Your family has lost its foothold."

She hated praising the Thunderbirds, but right now, it was the right way to twist the knife. "You have misinterpreted your power. You have bloated illusions of grandeur. You are not a martyr - you are a spoiled prince. Weak, and stupid, and now without anything to show for it. Do you think any mare will you look your way now? Do you think your children will respect you?"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.It was stupid to risk a glance upwards at the pillar of smoke rising from the mountain; to take his eyes away from the deadly predator. But Firestorm couldn't stop himself from trying to call her bluff. It couldn't be.

But it was.

The smoke from his sacrifice had masked the smell of the grander fire further away, but the dark, artificial cloud that seemed to be looming over the mountain left no ambiguity.

"No.." his voice came out strangled.

There was no victory. No prized herdgrounds to claim, and he knew, deep in the pit of his gurgling stomach, already doing another flip and causing him to clamp his mouth shut less he retch again, that what the skinwalker said was true. The true damage to her words was in the fact that she spoke truth.

The small clearing seemed to spin as he realized just how much he had lost. The words like knives into his flanks. He had failed. Failed to killl Balrog, Stormwild, or even Thunderbird. Sure, he had taken Maelstrom, but it was a consolation. He had failed to win back the herdgrounds that were rightfully his. He had lost the respect of his offspring that still had remained by his side... already having lost all of those of his first breeding... and Shinoma... would she even stay? He was disfigured by his own doings, flightless...

weak.

His legs buckled and he fell hard down onto the stripped ground, feeling as if he were being pulled into a dark void as his vision once more grew hazy. Failure. Laughingstock. Stupid. Gullible. Maybe the skinwalker would do him a service and tear out his throat.

"How pathetic," she sneered as he paled and passed out at her feet. Well, why she would have rather heard him beg for death in front of her; passing out in front of a Purewalker was virtually the same thing.

Her mouth watered; it would be so easy to kill him now; and she was tempted. So tempted. But killing him now would be granting him peace; and who was going to mourn this failed killer?

Instead, she would leave one last mark on him - one more memory just so he knew, whenever he woke up, that he was only alive because she chose him to be. Walking over to him she reached down and grabbed his bloody, stumpy chicken wings with her maw and wrenched.

She was not strong enough to rip them off completely, but after several minutes his wings were now mangled as well as featherless - broken in many places. "You will never fly again," she said, blood dripping from her jaw. "And every time you feel the call of the wind you will know it was I who took that gift from you."

Too bad he couldn't hear her. But she couldn't help but smile anyway, turning back into the Kitsune and disappearing into the underbrush; looking for somewhere to hide as the fire raged on in the lands.
