How about Alaric? Lars is a strategist who prefers to be a second-in-command, but probably could have been a captain if he wanted to. He never really cared one way or the other about the Aesir/Njal divide (but probably would have come down on Aesir's side if forced to choose, since he's not all that conservative).

Also, I forgot to mention that she is also looking for her brother (who doesn't actually exist yet). They got separated and he was the one that cared for her. So, I think they'd get along great.
