Finn gave Oliver a look at the small noise that he made, one that clearly said suck it up princess.

"You nearly died." There was no point pussyfooting around the subject. "But I did what I could to get you to the infirmary, and once you were in more capable hands, everything was fine." Yes, Finn was admitting that he'd <******** up, because the injury that Oliver had sustained had been beyond his ability to patch up, though since then he'd studied more, knew more, had been learning more.

And then he snorted. "More important? Like who? Nobody on this island is worth s**t, including the division leads."

"Oh." Rather than feeling nervous, something dangerously close to calm settled over the boy. So dying didn't have to be such a scary thing. Looking back on the fight's end, had he not woken up in the infirmary he would have counted that an easy death. He smiled, and the relaxed expression was the last thing anyone would have expected from the high-strung trainee, considering their current conversation topic. "You got your experience though, right?"

Oliver was not surprised by Finn's appraisal of the island's population, but it seemed a little dangerous to be badmouthing even the division leads. Whether the assessment was accurate or not didn't matter when they had enough power to make Finn's life miserable.

"More important, like uh, someone who wasn't completely useless." The kid paused as Finn finished applying the salve. "Um... I have to sit up again, don't I..."

Finn backed away, and nodded. "Yes." Which was in response to him needing to sit up again, not an answer to the completely useless comment.

A pause while he reached for the gauze and a small pair of scissors, measuring and cutting out what he thought was about the right length to cover the stitched up wound. "Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, Oliver. And while there are few on this island that I deem worthy of my attention, either as a hunter doing my job or as, I suppose, a friend," There was something about the way that he said the word that indicated he was dubious about whether such a thing was possible.

"You have somehow managed to worm your way onto that list. Congratulations, I guess." Again, the way he said it made it sound as though Oliver should actually be more frightened by the prospect than gladdened by it.

Despite all the doubt with which they were delivered, Oliver was touched by Finn's words. His eyes got a little shiny, but he knew Finn would not take kindly to tears, or hugs, or any sort of show of emotion. So shiny eyes were it.

He pushed himself back up to a sitting position with a wince, and used his arms to stay propped up. "I-it's nice you think I might have some value," Oliver said, behind the tightness in his voice from the pain there was a hint of wry sarcasm. A tiny glimpse at a sense of humour. "I know it's not much, but I can... ow... do a full lap around the island now."

Finn ignored the shine he could see in the younger man's eyes, a feeling of revulsion welling up inside of him that he really didn't need at the moment. Stifling it, shoving it down, he continued about his work, readying the roll of bandages before sitting down on the bed next to Oliver, and turning to press the gauze against him, before beginning to wrap the bandages around and around.

"Let me know if that's too tight." He muttered, his concentration mostly on what he was doing, but partially on Oliver's words as well.

"Good." He stated, though it was clear that he was still distracted with his work. "When you're all healed up you can start meeting me in the mornings again and we'll see if we can't turn that into two laps."

A sudden pause in his motions, as Finn's eyes traveled along the contours of Oliver's skin, his ribs, what he could see of his stomach.....

"You're beginning to get some muscle on you."

He actually sounded somewhat pleased by this.

"I like later in the day better," Oliver replied, rubbing at his eyes again. "I-it's hard to get to sleep sometimes..." He always appreciated that one extra hour, without it he would turn into an exhausted mess who still couldn't get to sleep on time. One day he would adjust to what horrors he had experienced and fall asleep the moment his head hit the pillow, but for now he just had to get through the day.

Doing his best to sit up straight, Oliver watched the way Finn was wrapping the bandages. It had somewhat of a bracing effect, and the pain wasn't quite as bad as it had been while moving around. But when Finn's hand stopped...

Oliver looked up in question, and promptly began to blush the second he realized what Finn had said. What was worse, he wrapped his arms self-consciously around his middle, preventing any further work on his bandages.

"N-no, I'm sure I'm not!" He protested, shaking his head. Over the weeks Oliver had not been paying much attention to himself beyond the requirements of personal hygiene, and the boy had definitely not taken the time to notice his soft, 'unused' look was giving way to leaner muscle mass. Looking at his tousled hair alone spoke much for his belief in mirrors.

Finn snorted. "You'll get used to it." The early mornings, he meant. "Besides, might as well get your body and mind used to less sleep. Never know when something horrible is going to happen and you find yourself only getting an hour here and there, right?" Always the optimist.

At least he was smiling (coldly) when he said it?

But now there was another matter at hand, and that was Oliver's denial and subsequent non-violent protest to what was nothing more than absolute fact and truth. "Move your arms." Finn gave the younger man another unimpressed look. "And yes. Yes you are." He waited for Oliver to drop his arms back down so that he could continue.

"I know a good looking body when I see one. Yours might not be all the way there yet, but there's definite improvement to what was previously the equivalent of body made of marshmallows."

Oliver reluctantly let Finn go back to his ministrations, meeting the unimpressed look with a nervous frown. "I d-don't think I was ever made of marshmallow," he muttered.

"Good looking... You mean attractive? Like, to girls?" The boy had his doubts, it wasn't a concept he would have ever applied to himself. He rubbed his slightly scarred shoulder, his glance focussed on something harmless off to one side of the room.

Finn went about his work a little more quickly now, but still carefully, never sure when Oliver was going to shy away from him again. Smoothing out the final wrap around to make sure it was tight and secure, he pinned it into place before speaking again.

"And to guys as well. Keep it up, princess. You'll be fending them off with your dinosaur plushy." He began to gather up his things again, slipping items back into his pockets. When his hand scooped up a bottle of painkillers, however, he popped the lid and shook two out into his hand, which had been stripped of its latex gloves.

"Here, these should help." He passed them over.

Oliver touched the finished wrappings gingerly, but there was no pain above and beyond the general ache. That brought a little smile to his face. Then he blinked. "Wait what? Guys?"

The two painkillers were downed in one go, easily even without a sip of water to wash them down. Oliver's shirt was forgotten as he flopped onto his back. "Can I go back to duties tomorrow? When should I start running again?" Nevermind that he looked pale and tired enough to sleep for the next three days straight, the boy's mind was already on the work he was not getting done.

Finn smirked. "Don't be coy, Princess. Just admit that you're excited by the prospect." Guys, girls, it didn't matter. Everyone liked to feel attractive, so what did it matter which sex found him appealing?

"You can go back to duties whenever you feel ready to, but heavy lifting should be avoided for at least another day, maybe two. Running...I would give it at least four more days before you attempt that. Count yourself lucky. A regular human would be out for six weeks. But in the end, you should know you're own body and what it can handle more than anybody else. Talk to your weapon, they're a pretty good judge as well.

He began gathering up his things, tossing a cold pack Oliver's way so that it would land beside him. "Use that if it starts to bother you. It might feel hot at times, or just swollen."

Excited? More like nervous. Being put into the 'attractive' category was flattering, but it was also a large leap out of his tiny comfort zone. He didn't know how he was supposed to act even on a good day, this threw in one more situation for him to potentially mess up.

Oliver covered his face with one arm, a futile attempt to hide his embarrassment. "M-maybe I've decided to stop working out. And be a marshmallow again."

He peeked out when he felt the ice pack land on the bed beside him. "I'll try not to do anything I'm not up to," the boy promised, picking up the cold pack and squishing it in his hands.

"You never say anything!" Oliver blurted out in reply, immediately covering his mouth when he realized it had been said out loud. Jökul chuckled in his head like the heavy crunch of snow underfoot.

"S-sorry Finn..."

"Maybe you're just scared. What are you scared of? Do I need to give you that demonstration now?? And I swear to god, Oliver, if you do that I will start calling you the Marshmallow Princess." Because that was clearly worse than just being called a Princess.

He chuckled to himself, a good sign that he was joking (hopefully).

At the sudden outburst, however, he rose his eyebrows.

"Excuse me?"

"S-sorry!" The boy squeaked to Finn. "Jökul was... um... Talking to me for once." Oliver's words were for the other hunter, but it was clear his emphasis was for the weapon curling around silently inside his mind.

"A-and I'm n-not scared!" He paused then, and glanced away. "M-maybe I'm a little scared... I d-don't know much about that stuff, so it's kinda... You know, all new to me. A-and n-nobody has ever been interested in me, uh, like that." All joking aside, this was an awkward admission for the boy. He was still at an age for self-doubt even if it hadn't been a permanent personality trait.

Oliver saying he wasn't scared was like hearing a Jack proclaim that he didn't like coffee. It was so untrue as to be almost ludicrous, and Finn just stood back and stared at him until he first admitted the truth, and then continued to stammer on about it.

He smirked a little, but that small, cocky, half smile was soon dropped as he let out a sigh and ran fingers through his hair.

"Have I ever told you that you're kind of pathetic?" He asked, arching eyebrows, and then giving his head a small shake.

"You know what, whatever. All joking aside, if you want help with...anything. I'd be willing to show you." He shrugged his shoulders, and finished picking up his supplies to tuck back into his pockets.

"Need anything else while I'm here?"
