Lex gave Oliver a very shaky thumbs up and a faltering smile, taking another step forward with a silent prayer that nothing would happen this time. God apparently had other plans.
Those plans involved a ******** shark being launched out of the wall and ripping off the arm Lex had just used to give Oliver the half assed attempt at reassurance. He screamed, but was alive still.
That would hurt in the morning.Status Step: 4 HP: 12 Flags: 1 Instinctive moves:

Oliver yelped, and it was as though the sheer absurdity of a flying shark taking off his friend's hand broke the boy. He panicked, and no sooner had he stepped on the tile behind him, a flying axe buried itself in his chest. That golem was done for. The second he was released from the pod, Oliver lurched out and across the small room. His goal was the small desk near the door. Or more appropriately, the wastepaper bin at it's side. The young trainee fell to his knees and vomited forcefully. He retched and coughed until there was nothing left in his stomach, and once that urge had passed, the best he could do was lean against the side of the desk. His entire body trembled, and he couldn't help but press one shaking hand against his chest where the last blow had hit. Status Step: 6 HP: 0 Flags: 1 Instinctive moves: 0

Lex winced at Oliver's gruesome simulated death, not altogether a fan of the realism of the situation. He could at least laugh about the sheer absurdity of his injuries later - honestly, a ******** flying shark. What would be next, a giant snail gliding through his chest like a bullet?
The Lifer looked at the next tile ahead of him, brow raised. It seemed a straight line wasn't the way to go about this puzzle, but then that would be what Death division would want him to think. Maybe they were trying to pull something, a trick using reverse psychology. He smirked, dropping his one allotted flag down.
The tile exploded, leaving Lex to move on to a safer tile. Hah, take that Death.Status Step: 5 HP: 12 Flags: 0 Instinctive moves:

There was no way Oliver was going back in that pod voluntarily. At least not today. It did not even occur to him to wait patiently for Lex to die again. The boy was well beyond that, the closest thing to logical thought was to inch around to the far corner of the desk, away from the offended trash can and away from the pods.

Lex was done with this training course. He'd met the minimum requirements, and that was that. Oliver was out and probably already running far away, and Lex couldn't really blame the boy. Conclusion: shock therapy was bullshit.
Stepping out of the pod was an ordeal thanks to the pain of having his fake arm ripped off. Lex could see his right arm, he could even move it, but it felt disconnected still. Hopefully he could sleep it off, and if not he'd have to do some text book digging. Yay, more books.
He heard the boy wrenching and made a sympathetic face but didn't dare to touch the boy. Oliver was in shock, and Lex couldn't do much at this point but let him ride it out. Hopefully this rollercoaster was a short one.

Oliver wasn't aware of Lex's presence, not until the footsteps were close enough, and loud enough, to penetrate the protective walls his mind had put up to help him cope with what he had just been through. But the moment that awareness hit him, Oliver abruptly jerked to his feet. "A-Are you o-okay? Y-your arm- Th-the shark... I-it- p-please b-be okay..." The words came out in a steady stream of terrified babbling, trailing off as he swayed unsteadily. Oliver's face was pale, and he leaned heavily against the desk to avoid falling over completely.

"I'm fine. My arm is just a little sore, that's all." Lex lied to the boy, rubbing his shoulder and repressing the urge to wince and the thousands of flaming needles he'd just dug in to his skin. It was odd just to move the limb, like he was moving the arm of another person. Lex didn't like it at all.
"Are you alright? I saw the vomiting. We should get you some water." Lex clucked, hovering around the boy while trying to give him some space, just in case he began to panic or have some sort of break down. Oliver was, to Lex, a slowly diffusing bomb of anxiety and self doubt. "Can you walk?"

Even if the words were false, anything that resembled reassurances were suitable for the boy. Lex hadn't really blown up, his arm hadn't really been eaten by a flying shark... Once the trauma of the event had worn off he might even be amused at the method used to take the other hunter's arm. Unfortunately the moment Oliver's shock and concern began to wear off, the tears started. The boy nodded and blinked with watery eyes. He couldn't stop it, the death had been too real and terrifying, and before he knew it the tears were streaming down his cheeks. " i-it s-still hurts..." The young trainee whimpered as he clutched his shirt over the nonexistent wound with a white-knuckled grip.
