A bright laugh left the girl and Abbi skittered back into her room.
"Whaaaat!? Don't you like pastels?" She giggled before she rushed to a wall where a poster of a dreamy looking alien from a video game made soulful contact with whoever viewed him. "At least tell me you like Thane. You're a gamer, c'moooooon!" The girl turned and leaned against the wall, not at all practiced with pretending she was cozying up to the poster.

But she toddled back a second later and reached out a hand for Chel.
"C'mere, you can sit with Onii-chan." Abbi pointed to the giant Korilakkuma stuffed toy that inhabited most of her bed.
"Well, I had a few ideas! I figured we could both use some make overs so I spent the last... Uh... How many hours has it been? Well, however many hours that is watching YouTube tutorials of make up and hair and stuff!" There was a sort of manic quality to the girl's movements as she ripped into a bag of chips. "Also I found some coffee. I don't usually drink coffee. Actually, I had to get a bigger cup because I put so much cream and sugar in the original coffee that it didn't fit." That explained the jitteriness, at least.

Chel made a face as she sat down on the large bear, as though she was sitting down in a pile of jelly and the feeling just didn't sit right. All of this felt so ... girly.

She held up a hand when Abbi allowed her a pause. "I said I'd help you with your makeup. We can give ya any kind of make over ya want, but leave me out." She held up her box she'd brought with her. "I just want some help dyeing my hair- that's it."

Seeing Chel clearly uncomfortable in Abbi's room certainly threw the girl for a loop, but there was little she could do about it now given that she was not going to throw out her stuff or even put it into her closet.
She did stop with a demure look when Chel raised a hand and was good and didn't say anything until she was finished.
"Why can't we do your make up too?" It was an honest question asked with sincere curiosity.

As for hair...
"I've never dyed anyone's hair before! Not even my own... In that dream world for New Year's I put pink streaks in, but not in this life! How exciting!" She did look honestly excited for the opportunity to expand her repertoire of skills. "You going back to pink?"

Chel laughed and said, "Does this b***h on the box look pink? It's brown." She shrugged and said, "Don't gotta do much- I dye my hair on my own most'a the time anyways, but havin' someone to do the back helps since I can't see it."

She shook her head and said, "But less 'bout me. What date ya goin' on that you needa be made over?"

Only now that she mentioned it did Abbi give the box in Chel's hand a closer inspection. The woman smiling brightly in glossy colors was, in fact, a disappointing shade of brunette.
"Why aren't you going pink?" So maybe the teen didn't know how the dying process for hair worked exactly, but she was pretty certain that you had to bleach your hair before attempting to put a bright color over it. The brown didn't mesh with Chel's previously colored coifs, which left Abbi very confused.

"Ha! Me, going on a date. That's funny." Curious, Abbi reached forward and grabbed the box from Chel's hands to read the instructions... Of which there were none on the back of the box. What why not. "Nah, I just figured you could use some girl time... I'm pretty sure they don't allow mascara in quarantine." Maybe it was on the bottom? Nope... "Plus you gotta look cute."

"Pink stands out darlin'," she cooed. "Jack and I agreed I gotta blend in for a little while. Can't draw attention to myself." She took the box from Abbi and cracked open the top, revealing the instructions on the inside on a tiny scratch of paper. "Brown's pretty neutral." She didn't bother telling Abbi that she'd dyed her hair so many times that the instructions were essentially lining for her recycling bin, but she didn't want to spoil the girl's fun.

When Abbi mentioned she was doing the girl time for Chel, the pink hunter blushed slightly. "O-Oh."

This was certainly a change. Someone doing something for her without pretense. Incredible. Her tone for the next phrase was oddly scolding, almost serious had it not been Chel. "Don't say it's surprising for ya to go on a date," she said, reaching out to grab Abbi's neck and pull her into a noogie. "'Cause I'll date the crap outta you if that's what it takes for ya to see you're the cutest ******** on this side ah the island."

"Oh." Her hands popped open to allow easier access to the box, blue eyes watching as the instructions were taken out. Of course, they had been on the inside! That was pretty logical and Abbi made grabby hands for the scrap of paper, frowning when she realized there were so many. There were like 10 steps! What the heck!?
"Cause of... Uh... Cause of the bomb?" One hand rose in the air to shake her wrist in pantomime of the bracelet on Chel, but Abbi's real concentration was focused on the paper. Eyebrows drew down as she read over what to do, flipped over the paper and saw instructions in another language. Should she try to read this too? Maybe it was important if they put it on there...

Startled by Chel's tone, however kind it truly was, Abbi squeaked when she was pulled over and once more when her head was noogied.
"You can't date meeeee!" The instructions dropped from her hands and gloves fell out, of which the teen squirmed out of her friend's arms for to jump toward. These looked really important!
"Firstly you have to date Jack. And secondly... Well, I'm kind of into guys. Sorry." A tongue was stuck out at Chel with a grin before she waved the plastic gloves at her friend.
"So if you know any cute single guys... That aren't total nut cases... Or my height... Sign me up!" She laughed at herself and waved the instructions in her other hand.

Chel released and frowned. "How you know about Jack?" she asked. "Unless that was a trick to get me to admit it. If so ******** you." It was meant lightheartedly, as she stuck her tongue out and grabbed the instructions from Abbi, crumpling them into a ball and tossing it into her trash can (aka, missing the trash can completely and still considering it a basket).

"But he ain't gonna date me any time soon sweet cheeks. Already said no." There was less fear in her voice now, something much stronger. "I'll keep my eye out for dudes! But a good lesbian is awesome every once in a while. Or bi. Like me." Chel held out her fingers like jazz hands for Abbi to see.

She picked up the box and said, "C'mon. I'll show ya how it's done. We gotta do it in the bathroom though."

"Cause we got drunk and Jack told me." This was said matter of factly, as though Abbi fully expected Jack to have already told her. The instruction sheet was watched intently and a look of horror crossing the teen's face when they were crumbled and tossed away. Bu-but she needed those! She didn't know what she was doing at all! She hadn't watched any tutorials on hair dying! AUGH CHEL NOOOOO!

Unwilling to agree, but also reluctant to pick a fight about it, Abbi gave a pout to Chel.
"He said anything was possible." So maybe she would pick the tiniest of fights.
But she perked up a second later and nodded excitedly.
"Is it gonna be messy? Do I need to change or something?"

"You don't gotta change much. Maybe a shirt you don't care about just in case some of the dye gets on it," she said with a nod.

She didn't want to talk about Jack right now.

Since Abbi cared about all her shirts, she said nothing and followed Chel to the bathroom. She would just be very, very careful is all...
And while maybe she wished she was better at getting people to open up around her, Abbi could at least ease the tension she'd created by asking for verbal instructions on hair dying. Though the whole process did require her to sit on the counter in the girl's bathroom so she could reach Chel's head properly.

"So what do we do while we wait for the dye to set? I learned how to do a great smoky eye... Well I think its great, I didn't have anyone to practice on." And she didn't really have the shadows to practice with in the library.

Chel let Abbi apply the dye. It was no doubt in a messier fashion than if she had done it on her own, but somehow that seemed fitting. She wanted to give Abbi the chance to play.

"Sure, if you wanna. Show me your skills Abbi~" she cooed. Having the girl there to chatter with while she dyed her hair had opened Chel up a little, and now she was at least feeling somewhat playful. "I'll give you some coon eyes in return."

Having never applied hair dye, let alone mixed it together, Abbi had quite a struggle with the concept. It just didn't make sense to her that you could smear some weirdly colored gel onto your hair and it would then make your hair that color. But she did it regardless, stern faced and making little noises as she methodically covered every inch of Chel's hair. Perhaps it would have gone faster had Chel done the work herself, but at least with Abbi's insistence that she do it right the first time, no pieces were missed.
It felt a bit like playing in the mud, only the point was to be specifically messy, but the teen still found herself laughing and joking as the process went on. Once finished the girl felt nearly exhausted, but she sat up straight and peppy for her friend.

"Coon eyes? Are those good for dates?" She laughed and shrugged. "I've uh... I've never been on a date. Not a real one. I went with Jack and Leslie on a blind date that I set up, just for funsies yanno, but not one like... Just for me?" It felt odd admitting that, but Abbi shrugged it off quickly.
"How about you? I bet you were a real heart breaker before Deus!"

It somewhat stung that Abbi had been on more dates with Jack than she had.

"Yeah ... 'bout those blind dates thigh highs- you mind cuttin' 'em out? Jack plays along but it bothers him somethin' fierce." She felt a familiar cut in her chest as once again she defended Jack, while simultaneously wondering why no one had even considered her for a blind date. Was it really so hard to picture for everyone else too? Was it only her that saw the potential?

She blew out a breath and changed the subject. "What? Riptide never took you on a proper date? ********, I gotta have a word with that ********>." She shook her head. "For shame."

Abbi's cheek was pinched and she said, "What do you think I was?"

An odd noise left Abbi, something like a protest that had died before it had begun. She had clearly slipped up, she hadn't at all meant to mention Jack so casually like this, in fact she had wanted to avoid his general topic of conversation but hadn't thought her words out enough. The girl winced and shrank in on herself, one hand finding a pigtail to tug on and curl her fingers around.
"Sorry." Apologizing to Chel wasn't the same as apologizing to Jack, but Abbi felt as though an apology to the woman currently with her was still necessary. "I know I made him mad when I brought him along with Leslie... I thought I was being funny, yanno? They're both so grumpy all the time and I thought it would be funny..." She sounds like a child, small and sad because she has disappointed others.
"I'm sorry."

The subject change wasn't anything better, for this time Abbi sat up straight, looking stricken along with sad.
"No! Please don't say anything to him about me... I don't... Its just that... We never... Please don't..." There's too much to articulate, there's too little to speak of, and Abbi hasn't considered the subject in a long time.
"I don't think I'm the kinda girl guys take on proper dates..." She settles on as a form of distraction, shrugging and hating herself for turning the conversation into such awful territory. She's been trying so hard to give Chel something nice and simple and fun, but already Abbi is muddying it.

When her cheek is pinched Abbi winces again, but she tries to push a smile out.
"Nothing bad! Just yanno... Really bright and cool so lots of people thought you were pretty and wanted to date you, but you probably were too awesome to bother with such peasants?" All of that is supposed to be a compliment, but she's gotten so flustered that she can't tell if its come across that way or not.
