She watched the shrub but it had gone quiet. Surely something had just been there. She brushed it off, but not completely. She didn't want to fully let down her guard, her family had learned how quickly things could turn bad. She didn't hear much of the story from her father but she had heard of how her aunt was horse-napped. It was enough that any soquili that looked remotely bad would spook her. She waited a moment longer and when still nothing came into view, she snorted and turned to give her surroundings another full look around. Nothing looked familiar. This wasn't the direction she usually took when leaving home for some alone time. The night was usually a comfort but knowing she had no idea where home was at this point, she didn't feel good at all.
Time to think straight, she thought to herself. She sized down and flitted into the air. Her wings fluttering fast as she weaved through the gust of a breeze that tried to push her in the opposite direction. Just don't.. rain.. The thought seemed to be her bad luck. At first the drop of water that whizzed past her to the ground below had been missed. The next almost drowned her, knocking her out of flight and close to the earth before she fluttered her wings as hard as she could to stay air born. This wasn't good at all she feared. As the storm started to strengthen, hers was fading. Fighting against rain drops and gusts of wind, she flew backward more than forward in the direction she guessed would be her home. This must be one of many reasons her family usually found caves to dwell in. The more she struggled, the more she drifted further off. If she were to guess she was many miles away by now. So much for her fun game.. she gave up, hoping the storm wouldn't last long and found a hollow in a tree and tucked herself inside. She shook off the water then laid down, watching as the storm progressed. Lightning lit up the woods every so often but it wasn't so close that it was much of a concern. If it wasn't the faint rumbling of thunder, there was a closer rumbling from her stomach so it was a good thing she wasn't yet tired. Her usually full locks of curls were plastered to her head and neck, dripping water onto the wood beneath her small body. The curls were looser and stretched out making her mane longer. She shuddered from the coolness of the night and huffed a sigh as she waited quietly. Hope that she would be found tonight and not forever lost.
