It felt good to laugh, even if the sound was foreign to his own ears.
"Maybe I am, Huckles." He chuckled out, about to run his scarred hands through his own hair, but he paused as he felt Finn's fingers curl around the back of his head. His arms draped around the other man's shoulders simply because it felt like the natural thing to do. The warmth in Finn's eye was missed entirely thanks to his lack of glasses, but the message was received, at least in part.
He leaned into the kiss he knew was coming, and, as hands and mouths wandered, his laughter really did change into something else.---- Later, as Ripley struggled to his feet to stretch, he suddenly paused with an uncomfortable hiss. Immediately suspicious, he twisted to look in a nearby mirror, only to see -
Rug burn.
"...That's it. I'm divorcing you." He informed Finn unhappily despite mostly joking about it, as he gingerly touched the angry red flesh.

No You. Finn had fallen over on to his back, panting, planning to get up once he had regained his breath though now that his heartbeat was beginning to slow, he was heavily considering just spending the rest of the night right where he was. Completely pillowless. It wasn't actually until Ripley spoke that he suddenly sat up, looking over at the other man with at first a puzzled frown, a moment of what the hell is he talking about overtaking him before realization dawned. And then he scoffed. "Quitter. Why am I not surprised? Oh well, fine by me. You were an awful husband anyways." The grin he gave the other man was probably meant to be friendly, but in the darkness of the room it was impossible to tell, and his words came out more on the flat side than amused like he had meant. "Ah well, good thing none of that was real, anyways. We both know you couldn't handle marriage, Ripples, let alone to me."

"Says the one who got us annulled." He replied almost distractedly to the idea of him being a quitter. "At least I was better than that kid you suckered in after me." He wasn't, but he could pretend for the sake of arguing. Inspection complete, he leaned a hip onto the corner of the bed, just enough to reach over and grab the pillow that had started it all, if only to drop it on Finn's head.
"And you can?" He shot back, raising a brow. Ripley wasn't the commitment type, he simply couldn't - the word in this context implied feelings, and he had none to give. Marriage just seemed like another step on the feeling train. Finn was no better than he was, really. That was what landed them in this agreement in the first place.
"Oh please." He drawled, the single word dripping with sarcasm. "I can handle you with my eyes closed." Though grinning, he waved his hand in dismissal, as if handling the other man was the easiest thing in the world. It wasn't always that way of course; Finn could be annoying to the point of being senselessly difficult, but he wasn't about to admit that.
"I'm going to take a shower, before you do say something stupid." He was teasing, and his mouth was set in a lopsided grin; but true to his word he started for the bathroom.

Finn scoffed, he was a little hazy on the memory, but from what he could remember... "You couldn't get that ring off of your finger fast enough. Probably scared your little girlfriend would find out about it and have a fit." He distinctly remembered Ripley being the one to end things, and right now, that was all that seemed important. But it was a moot point, wasn't it? It had all been a sham anyways. Just one of many quests the game had given them to complete, in order to be able to move on to the next level. Necessary, but in no way indicative that either man had aspirations towards eventual marriage. Commitment was a trap, and a wedding ring was like a combination lock that all men itched to figure out the code for, just so they knew they could get out of that particular prison if they wanted to. Finn ducked, the pillow bouncing off of his back and onto the floor. Picking it up, he smoothed it out, and set it on his lap. He was about to laugh, to give his assent and put this ridiculous, albeit small, argument behind them. Of course Finn couldn't handle marriage! Well, not the conventional form of it at least. It was meant to be some silly celebration of love and happiness, and again, commitment, and Finn was incapable of any of those things. But as Ripley kept on going, Finn swallowed the words. Laid out in front of him, the other mans words had painted a challenge, and while Finn was no good when it came to relationships, he was a sucker for a good challenge, especially if it was one that he thought -no, that he was sure- he could win. When Ripley turned to leave the room, Finn did the only mature thing that he could to stop him, and winged the pillow at the back of the other mans head. "You know what Ripples? I highly doubt that. So why don't you put your money where your mouth is and prove it." The grin on his face was as cold as ever, and he could not believe he was actually saying this out loud but. "Marry me."

The pillow hit him square in the back of the head, though there wasn't near enough force to make him even stumble. He didn't want to turn around, though. He knew what that pillow meant - it meant he didn't make his escape fast enough. Finn was about to do or say something incredibly stupid, and he'd get pulled into another half baked -
His mind pulled back to attention at the strongly backed prove it, and against his own will he turned to face Finn - just in time to hear the ultimate challenge: Marriage. To Finn.
There were a lot of things that ran through his mind then. So many ways to answer that absurd challenge, from a flat out no, to what's in it for me?...and all of them just as important to say. Instead he levelled a stare at Finn, doing his best to focus without his glasses. The question hadn't been one; it had been a challenge. That's all it was. There was no emotion driving it, no annoying pit in the bottom of his stomach urging it out. It was simple: Whoever backed down first lost. Like their pillow fight, really. Meaningless in the long run, but still somehow important in the heat of the moment...yet, unlike the pillow fight and more like their initial agreement, it had a lot of potential to become a nuisance on occasion.
"You think we're ready to settle down?" He replied back, as dryly as ever; the idea was a laughable one, but somehow, he managed to contain himself this time.

It was actually the dryness of Ripley's tone that took Finn aback more than anything, though it never showed on his features. He was expecting a derisive snort, a flat out no, or perhaps laughter. He wasn't actually sure what to make of it that Ripley hadn't done any of those things. It certainly made Finn question whether or not he should have challenged the other man. s**t. Ripley was stubborn, but if Finn had at one point expected him to back down, it now seemed that was not to be the case. His hesitation denoted a sudden wary indecision. This could end up being one of his most idiotic and regrettable challenges to date. Not only that, but the words settle down held uncomfortable meaning. If they went through with this, even if just for an allotted amount of time, would it change their arrangement somehow? Where was the actual challenge in it if it didn't? He had been giving Ripley a hard stare back in response for too long. He needed to say something. "I suppose I can't speak for you, Sweetheart, but I'm ready." A blatant lie. "But if the pressure is too much for you...." There was again, that hidden challenge, words unspoken, a silent willing of the other man to concede, and admit that he couldn't do what Finn was asking him to do.

That pause was all he needed; Ripley knew right then and there. But he still paused, as if considering, and slowly made his way back towards Finn.
"You~" As he neared the other man, he lowered himself to the floor. "are so~" He crawled onto Finn's lap, his fingers sliding up the wired muscles of the man's arms as he settled down to straddle him. "~ absolutely full of s**t." He finished, finally, a grin easing back onto his lips, his eyes lidded lazily.
"You're not ready." The grin remained. "I'm not ready." He conceded, before Finn had the chance to try and fight him on it. "We will never be ready." The grin faded now, as he mulled over just how serious the implications were. "That's just who we are."
"The only way it would work is if nothing else changed, and if we treat it like it was nothing but senseless paperwork and tax breaks. Which is all it really is." Not that they dealt with tax on the island, but still. That's all Marriage was, if you boiled out the feelings and the need to tie them into the idea of forever with the implications of devotion and family, which he felt was as absurd as it sounded.

Well damn, how was Finn supposed to be able to think straight when it was god knew what hour in the morning, and a sexy piece of a** was heading straight towards him? There was no protest as Ripley lowered himself down onto Finn's lap, either to keep him at bay or to tell him he was wrong, because they both knew that it was completely true. Arms looped lazily around the other mans waist, fingers kneading gently into his lower back as his thumbs worked in circles, pushing down against Ripley's muscle, slowly massaging even while he held the other man's gaze. Still he didn't speak, letting Ripley say it all for the both of them. It was true. Marriage, and what it meant, was not something Finn could ever abide by. It just wouldn't work for him. They didn't love each other. They weren't devoted to each other and each other alone. They were basically, at this point, just bed mates that seemed to enjoy each others company enough to call it something more than that, but not much more. Finally Finn spoke. "You're right." A smile, small, vague. It might have even looked sad if it had been on anybody else's face, but Finn's gaze, as usual, gave nothing away. He leaned in for a kiss, light, chaste, but he didn't pull away completely when he tacked on. "But if that's how you really feel about it, if it would mean nothing, than why haven't you just agreed to do it?" He grinned against Ripley's lips. He hadn't missed the fact that Ripley hadn't actually said no yet, either. He was, clearly, not ready to drop this quite yet.

Admittedly, it was a little difficult to keep talking with such conviction while Finn massaged his lower back, especially after recent activities had done a number to him. Yet he managed, keeping a straight face despite the shivers that goose-bumped his arms as the tension was worked out of him. His hands, which had rested on Finn's shoulders, slid back around his neck.
Finn's admittance wasn't a surprise to him, though the calm way it was presented was. Of course he was right; but being told he was, without something to follow, was rather...different. The kiss was enough to throw him off, though as he returned it, he had a feeling he was being lulled into a false sense of security; a notion that was proven not a moment later, with that grinned challenge.
"You know it means nothing." He frowned against the lips that insisted on being close to his. "Why are you stuck on this?"

Finn kissed him again, thumbs pushing into the other mans lower back with a much more firm amount of pressure, a deeper massage. He was trying to keep himself from laughing, but failed as he pulled away, and a chuckle managed to escape, his head ducking down to press more kisses against he side of Ripley's neck. "I don't know if you've noticed but..." His breath trailed against the other mans skin. "...I rather like winding you up." He paused for a moment, and pulled away, putting himself face to face with the other man. "You're just scared that it does mean something, aren't you?"

Between the deep massage and the kiss against his neck, Ripley gave a small, breathy gasp. His head lolled to the side just a little bit, to invite more of the small kisses that made him shiver. His scarred hands moved again, this time sliding down Finn's chest, curving towards his sides to rest on his waist.
"I noticed." It was obvious, and he knew it was something of a hobby for the other man, but in some cases he simply couldn't resist rising to the bait. Before he could say anything more on that subject, Finn had lifted his head again, and made an uncomfortable observation.
"I'm not scared..." He rose to his own defence with a frown; though, truth be told, it was more of a great, suspicious hesitance than all-out fear.

Finn grinned, though as usual there was very little about the action that appeared friendly. "Yes you are." He laughed, than, and released his hold on the other man. "Go and have your shower. I'm going to have a drink." And wait for the other man to get out so that he could have one too without any distractions.

"I'm not." He insisted, the frown disappearing from his lips as they instead creased into a thin line. He had been freed and so he stood up, turning towards his initial destination, before all of this happened.
"You know." Ripley paused at the entrance to the bathroom, turning just a bit to look back at the other man. "I probably would, if nothing else changed." All it would be was a void contract and, knowing Finn, a cold piece of metal on a finger.
"Plus, we're both legally dead, remember?" The perk of being a Hunter, he supposed. No matter what they signed, it wasn't legally binding anyway.
Then, with a careless shrug, he disappeared into the bathroom for that shower.

Leave it to Ripley to suck the fun out of everything.
As the other man departed, Finn finally pushed himself to his feet on unsteady/half asleep legs. Walking out the pins and needles, he made his way towards the partially stocked bar, and poured himself a finger of whiskey.
Finding a piece of wall to lean against and mull things over, he eventually moved to the bathroom door, leaning against it and waiting for Ripley to emerge.
And then when he did. "I'll admit, I'm confused...was that a yes?"
Because Finn had asked, after all, and Ripley never had really answered.

Ripley took his dear sweet time showering, being gingerly careful about the areas of rug burn he still had, though Wilhelm's shield was quickly putting an end to most of it. When he finally left the shower and the bathroom, he did it with a towel around his waist, his hair slicked back, and his glasses pinched awkwardly in one hand. It was absolutely no surprise to him to see Finn there, waiting for him.
"Was what a yes?"
