"Have a seat," she told Jack, gesturing to a chair beside her. She wasn't anywhere fancy, just one of the small tables that sat in one of the many libraries. She pushed up her reading glasses (which she detests completely) so they sat more squarely on her face.
She places a small shred of paper in the book she was reading, closing it. It is a small motion, but for Ami a very large one. She didn't often close her book for anyone. "I presume if you're here I'm not keeping you from any work, hm?"

He sits and restrains the impulse to just collapse into the chair. "Not at all."
Everything is work now.
He sleeps but he still feels tired, like maybe he really has been stretched too thin for once; not haggard (he's made sure not to become that fuzzfaced ******** that cames tumbling from the desert), but not quite whole either. The bruise seems to suck the color from his face, leaving his eyes the brightest points. They fix themselves on his mug of coffee first as he drinks, taking comfort in the bitter, hot taste as it burns his throat. Then they turn on Ami curiously.
"What's the order of the day?"

She noted the bruises, the tiredness. She drew lines within a circle in her notebook, blocking in certain sections of the circle while he sits. It almost looks like a map.
"Your cloning research. I'm interested." Ami didn't take the time to be kind or beat around the bush. There was no point in flattery when her goals were the same regardless. "Do tell." Her command skips payment, because she is above it.

Seniority"Hmm?" His brow furrowed slightly, buying himself a little time to think as he drank more coffee. "I wasn't aware anyone knew about that already." His meeting with Dr. H had been very recent, and he had yet to really consider who he would tell about it. Probably not any of his friends. "There's nothing to say about the project yet," Jack said, though he kept his voice down. "Other than the future of wet hands apparently."

She always knows.
She gently places her hand across Lex's not looking up from her books. It is almost as though she meant to grab something else and it happened to land on Lex's hand.
After that, it is quiet.

It is an idle comment over lunch. You would think it would be a dramatic moment, or a theophany of grandeur, but no. It is an idle comment over lunch.
"I wasn't aware you had a relative on the island." She set down her fork momentarily to offer a reprieve from the food. "Were you going to tell me?" It wasn't accusatory (the twosome had long since moved past such petty behavior), merely inquisitive. As in, was it something he intended to hide, and did she need to hide that secret too?

Now Ami was a dedicated tea fanatic, easily spending copious amounts each month for her warm kick of addiction. But if there was one cliche she had yet to escape, it was the goddamn call of autumn that came in a tiny plastic cup with her name (spelled wrong) on the side.
She came home with two, holding it just out of Lex's reach, dangling it over his head where it lay on the couch. "Good morning." The phrase was short and terse, but her voice was strangely filled with an affectation reserved only for Lex.

He's absorbed in his mythos books again, poems and epics burned into his retinas. Textbooks propping up his feet fall to the ground at the smell of coffee and cinnamon, cloves, and allspice. He looks at the cup greedily, then the woman holding it.,
"Gimme." Lex demands with the same affection, reaching up for the beverage.

"No," she croons, pulling the beverage away before it is lost to his enormous hands and their titan grip. She sips from the cup she's just offered him, and smiles because she has won, and winning is all that matters anymore.
She then walks away from the couch. It is satisfaction enough.

He'd finally gotten his iPod modified to work on island, and of course the first thing Lex did was to play music quite loudly around the house, humming along as he sipped on his fourth cup of coffee that morning. She would most likely not be pleased at the excess of noise.

He wipes the crumbs from his face with a linen napkin, clearing his throat. Ah, she'd found out before he could tell her. His reply is straightforward, no hidden meanings or sly adages. "I was - it's little secret." Lex shrugged, forking another morsel and letting it sit on the b=plate. "Frankly, I was shocked she appeared; it's why I hadn't gotten around to telling you."
He ate again,and filled his glass with more water.
