"I won't let her die." Her voice was firm and even, despite how much her thoughts were racing about the best way to go about this. At least now it wasn't feeble words. Thanks to Xun's gift she could mean it and actually do something. "As much as I would prefer Creation's garden or the lifewater lake...I can certainly do this here."

"Best for you to stay close. Depending on how she reacts I may need you to keep her steady and calm. Even if she isn't totally awake she should be able to hear you and she knows your voice." Whereas Whisteria was a stranger. She sat down on the bed so Aska could focus on Aoi rather than herself. Her hands came to rest gently on the dark haired woman's forehead and her shoulder near Althai's gem. It would not be much different than any other time he had seen his wife heal another, except this time she was a good deal stronger. She had to be careful not to overwhelm Aoi's small body in the process.

The druidess' blue eyes closed as her focus narrowed. Any recent wounds Aoi had, if there were any, would begin to mend themselves and her fatigue would ebb afterward.

Aoi....Althai... Once they started to respond, even if it wasn't consciously, then it would be safe for her to stop.

Aska settled on the end of the bed, opposite Whisteria. He kept his hands curled in his lap, and his eyes on Aoi. "I'm not sure how helpful I'll be in that," he admitted, "I've only known her for three weeks."

For a time, nothing seemed to be happening, but that wasn't strange inherently; the only injury Aoi had sustained was a mild concussion from hitting her head on the floor, to hear Nicodeme and Erasme tell it, but that was still an injury. That would take Whisteria's attention first, and then the exhaustion of the gem. Aska sat patiently, but even he couldn't stay silent for the length of time apparently required. "I'm sorry I left like I did," he said. "I hadn't planned to be gone as long as I was." The fact that he'd been successful seemed to pale next to the reality of his delinquency. He could come home now, could be the kind of husband Whisteria deserved, could know his daughter without fear of being stolen from her... but he didn't know that Whisteria would want him to.

A muscle in Aoi's cheek twitched, and he sat up a little straighter. The small, callused hands clenched tight in her covers and she tried to shy away from the hands touching her, but she hadn't awoken. Yet, Whisteria would hear: Oh. It's... you. Althai stirred, and said, I didn't expect her to resist me so much, a little shame filtering into his tone. She reeeeeally doesn't like me. Am I that much of a jerk?

Even with her concentration still partly elsewhere she smiled. "I am just glad that you are still you." She would not have known how to handle the situation had it been purely Althai calling for help. As for the rest - she would be glad to have him home, but things had changed for her too and would need too be explained first. "We can talk once she is out of danger."

'Oh...its you.' That's all you've got for the person who is trying to save your a**? Her expression shifted and Aska would know it meant Althai was simply being Althai. Are you sure you want my answer to that? Healing or not she had been very sour with him for trying to take her husband. That and he really was an a*****e. When Aoi started to stir her hands moved automatically to making soothing motions, like they would have for a fussy-sleepy Lily. "Shh...its okay."
PostPosted: Thu Oct 02, 2014 1:26 pm

She has a ******** spell on her that I'm not strong enough to break, Althai protested. She would've been fine if she'd just let someone break it like I told her to, like, a week ago!

"You've been out for a week," said Aska, deciding not to question how he could still hear the god in the jewel; for the moment, it was convenient. "Is Lady Aoi alright?"

Oh, shut up, bitched Althai, but he fell silent for a long minute, and Whisteria could probably feel him poking around his host. Aoi's expression changed, from the open sweetness of sleep to something darker, but Whisteria's hands were calming, and her features smoothed out, returning to a placid rest. The change of status was obvious, even to Aska, who lacked any sort of healing training. "She's sleeping now," he said. "Not comatose anymore. Right?"

Althai grumbled unintelligibly for a moment, before he said, I told her to break that stupid spell, but she was all, nooo, if it slows you down I'm gonna leeeaaaave it. Why does this always happen to me?

"Because you're an a*****e," Aska said. "Whisteria, is she alright?"

Whisteria could hardly blame the girl for not wanting to die, so she didn't comment on Althai's whining.

"Yes, she's sleeping now." Once Aoi settled down again she withdrew her hands and opened her eyes again. "They are out of danger, but they both need real rest if they are needed to be up and about any time soon." That meant Althai shouldn't try and poke around to get use of her body unless it was an emergency. Otherwise they might end up exactly where they started. "She will probably also be very hungry when she wakes up."

"Did you want to go somewhere and talk for a while?" They did have a lot to talk about.
PostPosted: Thu Oct 02, 2014 2:18 pm

"We'll let them sleep," said Aska, and there was a grumbling current of compliance from Althai. "Are you hungry?" The servants' kitchen would be preparing for dinner at this hour, but there was always journeybread, and he'd become quite friendly with a few of the other tributes while he'd been serving here. He felt fairly sure that he could scrounge up something decent to eat.

He poked his head out of the bedroom; Janine had gone, but there was a covered tray, steam just twisting out from under the silver lid. "I'm a first-year tribute," he said, pointing to the collar, "so I'm actually not allowed to leave my patron's quarters except when explicitly ordered to by her." It was a relief to avoid having to sneak out and go down to the kitchens, he supposed. "It's risky, otherwise. Especially so close to the tributary."

Aska remained standing, watching his wife a little uncertainly. "I wouldn't blame you, had you... moved on," he said. "I was terrible about communicating... many things happened, but that's no excuse."

"How is it you always find yourself a servant?" Tribute sounded curiously like 'servant' or 'slave', still it was a status that had kept him safe. It was a peculiar thing that he seemed to take to it so well, something she never could quite understand about him. "I am a bit hungry, yes." The druidess sat up more properly and rolled her shoulders before reaching for her staff. "I'm not too exotic for this place am I?" She had brought illusion potions just in case, better safe than sorry. She couldn't very well help anyone if she was causing too much of a stir.

His look of uncertainty made her pause. "I just wish you had been able to tell me you were leaving..." She was afraid that something had happened to him when he had just up and vanished one day. "In a way I did move on, but not entirely." She stood and offered him her free hand, hoping that it was allowed. "I was dreading the day Althai would come back masquerading as you. It took me a long time to be able to process things fully the first time..." When it had been Xun looking like Illisia. But in that circumstance she had been lucky, Xun had not - and now she knew he could not have - erased his host entirely. She highly doubted Althai would have been that generous. "I love you, and I love Xun. I would not want to loose either of you." The Dragon King would be understanding and it would not be an issue...but she wasn't sure how Aska would handle it.

There was more, but one thing at a time.

He shook his head. "You haven't met Nicodeme or Erasme yet, but they have wings and feathered ears. You're fine, I'm sure." The purple skin might be odd, but he'd met the previous Emperor's wife; Europans didn't match up to standard humans, coloration-wise. He thought there might be some organelle differences, too. Something about symbiotic bacteria in their home planet's atmosphere? It wasn't really any of his business, though.

"I'm very good at being a servant," he said, taking her hand. "I like to make things easy for other people. And Aoi is easy to take care of, really. I like the work..."

Aska sighed, and settled on the couch, taking Whisteria with him as he did. "That won't happen now," he said. It would be Aoi fighting for her self in the face of a god, not him, and he was selfishly glad for it. "And if you still want me, I'm yours. It doesn't matter to me who else you love, as long as you're happy."

He paused, then, before he asked, "And... how is Lily?"

And you were also a good carpenter. She kept the comment to herself since it seemed a pretty pointless thing to argue over.

"Of course I do." Whisteria leaned over against him once they were settled. "I have my duties as High Priestess as well, though they are few and far between at present." Xun had not picked a temple for himself and one of the Aspects was usually left in charge when the Dragon King wasn't around which left her with surprisingly little in the way of official duties.

"Lily is quite well, spoiled rotten pretty much. Everyone loves her. And now she'll have two fathers." Xun filled that role in his absence, though Lifewater had a tendancy to adopt everyone they came across if given half the chance to do so. What she didn't know was how much memory, if any, that Lily had of Aska. "She toddles around, talks some...though its in a few different languages." That was thanks to everyone around her being so different. "A lot of her friends are dragon whelps or overgrown kittens." Looking back Aska had missed quite a bit, but now he could turn things around.

"High Priestess," he said, running his fingers through her hair, gently tugging through any knots he found--there weren't many. "That's new. Tell me about it?" He could sort of extrapolate what she meant, and he remembered Xun well enough. The Dragon King had seemed kind, and there were few from the past couple of years that he remembered that way.

He smiled and pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "Sounds like an exciting life." He didn't expect Lily remembered him at all; he'd been there to see her born, and then... well, he'd left. Without much warning or notice to anyone. "Aoi has promised me safe passage anywhere I like, once she succeeds in overthrowing this current Empress. I could come home, if you'd welcome me there." Not that he imagined he'd want to entirely abandon the woman who was now Althai's host; but he could live with his wife and child and still look after her. He loved Whisteria, and he wanted to be with her. That was the long and short of it, and he was pretty sure Aoi would understand.

Aska heard someone shifting around in the bedroom beyond, and he said, "Did we have a timeline on when she ought to be waking?"

"High Priestess of Ti Lung, Lifewater of Worlds." Also known as Xun Jiang or Eonar, but formal titles seemed more appropriate in this case. "I was risen to the station of Aoide after Ulduar." The damage done in that place had been wiped clean by Lifewater and time, but the way she worried her lip a bit told Aska most of what he needed to know: he would not like what had transpired there. Whisteria let him toy with her hair as he wished to, though there was a good deal more to deal with. It was still long and straight but when she stood upright it reached thigh length. "I am essentially immortal, as I once was, and my healing ability is far stronger than it used to be." She could tear others from death's door if need be and exercise some control over lifewater itself. Thankfully a demonstration had not been necessary in Aoi's case.

"I would be glad for it, after lacking your presence for so long." They would have to clean up the apartment but that was easy enough to do and it was something they could do together.

She smiled. "Our daughter certainly does not lack for excitement that is for sure." One ear perked when the rustling came from the other room. "It is hard to guess, everyone is different...plus there is Althai to consider." There was no telling if Healing would speed things along or impede them.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2014 7:43 pm

Aska didn't know what Ulduar was, or where, or even if it was a person: but he did know that there was a lot Whisteria wasn't telling him. Those were questions to ask later, though, once Aoi woke up and everything had calmed down. Maybe after he got permission to leave, they could spend a day doing nothing but catching up. He was sure Aoi would grant him that. "So I'll still be predeceasing you," he sighed, "some things never change." Aska, after all, was only human.

Though he did have those disturbing new powers popping up...

He didn't get to broach that topic with his wife, because Aoi surfaced from the bedroom. "You," she said, gesturing at Aska with one hand while the other clung white-knuckled to the doorway, "didn't tell me it--" and she pointed at the rock "--could hijack my body and make me do dumbass s**t."

"To be fair," said Aska, "You do plenty of dumbass s**t on your own, so I wasn't sure anyone would be able to tell."

For a moment, he was concerned he'd pushed a little too far, from the way Aoi's face screwed up. Then she put a hand to her temple and rubbed at it, a gesture he knew all too well. "You should probably sit down and eat something," he said. "You've been out for a week."

He did not expect her to sputter with outrage and book it out the door with surprising agility. "Maybe Althai just likes her better than he liked me," he said, shrugging.

She kissed him softly on the cheek, looking rather apologetic about the whole immortal business. There were various ways to fix said problem it just took a bit of luck, time and quite possibly intervention from a god. That was assuming they could find one sympathetic to their situation that was trustworthy enough.

It seemed safest to stay out of the exchange with Althai's new host, unless things got dicey. Whisteria was just glad that she was upright with seemingly no ill effects. The woman's expression seemed to read more as exasperation than outright anger. Aska might feel his wife tense a little, like a cat coiling its muscles to pounce. If Aoi had planned to lash out the druidess was ready to stop her; she wasn't about to let her husband get injured when she had just found him again. When the other woman stormed off she relaxed again.

"Could be, though I'm not sure how much he really liked anyone?"
PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2014 8:34 pm

"I'm not sure Althai was capable of liking anyone at all," said Aska. "And when he did like them, he pretended he didn't." He'd loved Embless though. Just as much as Aska, which had been weird. But Embless was dead now, and that about killed all the appeal of ever going home again for Aska. He'd only gone back in the first place to make sure she was alright for himself, before the god subsumed him.

Which, thankfully... hadn't happened. "If she passes out and falls down the stairs, d'you think I'll be in trouble," he said, doubtfully. No, they'd probably blame Nicodeme.

He sighed. "I want to hear more about what you've been doing," he said, "and I'd like to let you in on what's going on here, but I'm fairly sure this isn't the right place. Now that Aoi's awake, we can probably go down to the undercroft and talk in more private?"

"I don't think so. If you warn her and she doesn't listen that is hardly your fault." Whisteria shrugged her unpinned shoulder.

More private definitely sounded like a good idea. Besides, it was better to be in a place that the walls were less likely to have ears. "I'll follow you wherever you would like to go. Just lead the way, love." Of course that required dislodging herself from his side first, so he was able to get of the couch. And so she moved, even though she loathed to do it just now.
