Kennet scoffed. Is anything was a disturbance here, it was Xilarn. The hybrid pushed through his own blush and adjusted his seating yet again. It was his fault he was blushing, it was his fault that he was so nervous, it was all his fault. Stupid crushes, he wondered if his dad ever had to deal with such an emotion. And if he had, how the hell did he deal with it?
"The hell are you talking about?" He replied, his voice more like a bark than he would've liked it to be. "You'd be helping by being there, what's so hard to understand? And, honestly, I wouldn't mind being be your side the whole time, either! Sheeeeesh!"
He paused, his shoulders hunching.
"You act like me being next you would be a problem." He muttered, folding his arms across his chest. "I'm strong enough to defend you and my entire village, numskull."

By no power of his own, Xilarn found himself leaning towards Ken, enough that their shoulders brushed and the Oban teen could feel the heat pouring from his friend. He didn't appreciate his companion sounding so defensive and wound-up, but at a time like this, of course tensions were high in both of them. And whether his mind readily knew it or not, the contact was soothing.
"It wouldn't for me," he assured, voice soft and resolute. "Because there's no one I'd rather have there. But for you. Can you really believe your family and friends and... village- whatever you have, it doesn't matter- would be particularly accepting of you parading around with an... enemy... With me? And at your camp!" It was almost comical, really, and Xil couldn't help the way his voice broke into a cracked snort as he said it. With a jolt of humor rippling through him, he settled a little more comfortable at Kennet's side, shoulder settling against Ken's and the span of his arm nestled next to him.
"And while I'm sure you're the absolute epitome of a warrior's defensive capabilities, I doubt they'll be putting that much faith in you."

Kennet tensed up further. He'd explained, it must've been fifteen, maybe twenty times now, that he could handle anyone that might try to hurt Xilarn if he came to Tale with him. It was like the other boy was deaf or something! Why couldn't he just trust him? Just, stop being so stubborn and trust that he knew what he was doing! He'd beat the ever living hell out of anyone who messed with his Xil, not that he would ever say that out loud. Maybe if he were giving the final blow to someone and Xil were out of earshot he'd say it, like a finishing line. Yeah, maybe not the best idea.
"OH, and your tribe has the utmost of faith in YOU?" He barked, glaring. "I bet you my honor that I could take anyone down in a battle in mere minutes! In fact-" He jumped up from the log and stared Xilarn down. "I challenge you to a battle, right here, right now! Spear against spear."

Lavender Hues Ken needs one more post, and then we can close this out! Xilarn's eyes narrowed. His brow furrowed and pinned his companion with a gaze that had switched from equal parts frustration, concern, and a healthy dose of want; to irritation and confusion. Why was Kennet acting so defensive? It wasn't as if Xil had pointed out anything untrue, and it certainly wasn't as if a concern for either of their safeties was unwarranted. It shouldn't be wrong of him to want his only friend not to vanish in some violent Tale fight.
"Well, no," Xilarn admitted, struggling to retain some sense of composure. "Not that my people identify with tribes- And I don't want your honor; I want-" He bristled as Kennet leaped away from him, tilted his head back to glare at the taller male, and frowned. "I want you to stop yelling. This is ridiculous. If you really can't control yourself, perhaps I should beat some sense into you."

Fluffesu Two million years later... Kennet clenched his fists to his side and grumbled. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Now he'd gone and issued a battle with someone who he really didn't want to beat the living hell out of, just before the war no less! He glared to the side, spat, and mentally cursed himself for what he was about to say.
"Alright, then, Xilarn." He sneered, unsheathing his spear. "Let's see how fast I can kick you into the dirt! Maybe, after this, you'll wish you had a tribe to back you up!"
