"That's a little sad." Zeke didn't have much a tact filter, hopefully Ever wouldn't mind. iI hadn't been hard keeping up, Zeke was only an inch shorter, but a more leisurely pace wouldn't be opposed to. "That's usually how a promotion works, isn't it? More responsibility, more money. "

"Usually doesn't always apply, around here." He shook his head a little, amused, and considered the pros and cons of fishing out a cigarette -- but his hands were full, making it a difficult proposition. He'd just have to wait. "After all, I don't people usually are engaged in some kind of crazy underground war." Ever puffed out a sigh and hiked the vodka bottle higher. "And it's not like we can back out, now, so incentives don't have to be high to keep us around..."

"All good points, though considering the population of the island, it would be in the best interests of those leading this operation to keep the masses placated." His head tipped thoughtfully. "They're more powerful, but we have the numbers, and its hard to say which way favor would fall if there was a clash." Not that he was even considering the possibility of there actually being any sort of rebellion among the hunters(Not yet aware of O, and their forces), it just all seemed very logical.

"I don't know, actually. Are they more powerful? Some maybe, but..." He hesitated, wobbling a hand back and forth [and almost but not-quite dropping his alcohol in the process] and then shook his head again. He had to pause, take just a moment to open the door, and then leaned back against it: holding it open for Zeke to go past into the dorms. "Halloweenside, at least, they seem mostly like kids. Over eager kids, some of them."

"I was referring to our esteemed leaders, in the event they ever decided we are indeed trapped here, and they don't have to pay us, or even provide the most basic of incentives." He slipped past as Ever opened the door and waited until the blonde was at his side again before he started walking. "I've been reading up on the sort of races one might find in Halloween." Finn had called it a waste of time, but Zeke considered it a step towards hopefully not finding himself thrust into a situation he had no clue how to handle.

"We picked up a girl yesterday." He reached out to grab Zeke by a belt loop before he got too far, to draw him to a halt -- because Ever was in 104, just barely inside the door. He'd push both bottles into Zeke's hands so he could get the door and shoulder it open. Inside, his room was still relatively stark: battered bag shoved under the bed, a couple of sci fi books [including Deathly Hallows] on the bedside table, but generally undecorated. Except, of course, for the medieval-style rack tucked neatly into one corner, and the pile of postcards pinned, now, to the inside of his door. Ever, at least, completely ignored it. Used to the thing already, even as crazy as it was. Maybe Zeke would be less calm about it, but he just finished the thought. "She was all gung ho about being weaponized, so I don't have a damned clue. She was all bright and cheerful and excited and pro-human."

A tug at his belt to keep him from wandering past Ever's door had him glancing down at the finger hooked in his belt loop, there was no response save a subtle twitch of lips as hazel eyes lifted back up to the slightly taller man before the door was opened to usher him him. The room was like his own, bed, desk, books, stark walls, impersonal and carrying that 'unlived-in' look about it. Except...for the rack. Just inside the door Ezekiel rolled to a stop, attention all for the torture device tucked against the wall. I've seen horror movies with similar lead ups to this...Brows drawn level, lips twitching up thoughtfully to one side, Zeke glanced over his shoulder at Ever. "You've got some interesting kinks, Powder." He hadn't heard a word the other man had said past picking a girl up the day before. Too busy starring. Mind working towards possible angle of having just voluntarily strolled into a sociopath's room.

The statement got a blink, and then a look, following Zeke's eyes to the rack -- and Ever's expression was guileless at least. It took him a moment to process the problem, but once he had, it made him grin, slowly slide into a snicker, scraping hair back out of his face. He nabbed the bottles back and, without any real concern, set to digging out some red solo cups. "It was in my room when I got here. Of course, that was a different room, down in the basement." He'd pour: just a splash of cranberry, and then a healthy amount of vodka on top of it. "I got rid of it fast, but I freaked the hell out of this newbie -- no offense -- a couple weeks ago, and damned if he didn't get some folks together to bring that back." He straightened to give Zeke one of the cups. "I assume Rep was involved, I don't know anyone who'd be big enough to carry the damned thing."

That blank stare earned Ever a hard look, as if the newbie couldn't quite believe it was taking this long for the taller man to process the issue. It evolved into intrigued suspicion as Ever grinned and turned to pour them both a drink. The offered cup was taken, though a considering look lingered on strong features. "Don't know who you mean," he admitted as he took a drink. "But the way you make it sound, this isn't the only piece of torture equipment down in the basement rooms." Not for the first time, Zeke found himself grateful that the timing of his awakening allowed him to claim a room on the first floor. He was used to dorm rooms, they'd been his life for the last four years.

"No, it was pretty normal for down there, I'd say about fifty fifty -- " He paused, dropping down onto his bed with long legs stretched out in front of him. Ever's bought-new combat boots were now scuffed and scarred from work, from sparring, from missions. That was alright. It gave them character. "What, you got a room right upstairs, too?" There was something disgruntled about it. Enough so that he had to take one long swallow of his drink and then root around for his pack of cigarettes.

Fifty fifty. Half the rooms in the basement held some form of mid evil torture device-his head tilted as he eyed the rack, features thoughtful.--or sex equipment. Interesting. Something to possibly look into at a later date if he found himself with an abundance of free time. Not that he expected that to happen any time soon. The cup rose again, and he took along swallow before Ever's tone pulled his attention back around. "Yeah. The Tech that assigned it to me said I lucked out." Something about a bunch of trainees moving up, leveling a temporary lull in the overflow. "I'm way at the other end of the hall." His free hand dropped to grab the back of the desk chair, drawing it out so he could take a seat. "I'm definitely not going to complain."

"I spent weeks down there. Every time it rained you got water, and there were blood stains on the ceiling, too." Ever shook his head as he fished out a cigarette, sliding it between his lips. "There was this one that I thought stared back at me -- uh. Do you smoke?" It was an afterthought, after a blink, halfway to his lighter and he abandoned that idea to offer the pack out to Zeke, instead. Pall Malls, and Ever wasn't chill enough to be a hipster, so he had to be just cheap. Or maybe he was, secretly, a bit of a hipster.

"And they have trainees living down there?" his tone was incredulous. Not challenging Ever's account of things, but in disbelief that blood stained and water logged rooms were acceptable living arrangements. "Full time, not as any form of punishment?" He waved away the pack, shaking his head. He didn't smoke, but he'd had friends that did. It didn't bother him.

"They don't need incentives. Why wave the carrot when you have a perfectly good stick?" It could have come out cynical, but from Ever it was more cheerfully amused, joking as he kindled the end of his cigarette with a dollar-store lighter. The motion was practiced and familiar and, as he drew smoke into his lungs, he leaned back on the bed, unconcerned that he might set something on fire. "Sorry. I don't mean to freak you out." But Zeke didn't look freaked out at all, so maybe that wasn't really a concern.

Zeke gave an agreeable sort of snort, lips twitching upward in a small smile as he took another drink. However joking the comment, the Mist filed it away, added it to the log of others he collected from everyone he met on the island. An accumulative over all opinion of their situation that might help him form his own in the lack of actual experience. His attention had slid back towards the rack that sat against the wall, wondering what it might hav ebeen used for once-upon-a-time before Ever had become it's proud owner. When the other man spoke it drew Zeke back, and that slight smile went up a notch. "No worries."
