“Show me your tattoos again,” Shiloh asked, not the least shy about asking. He loved Ian’s tattoos, and he loved to hear the stories behind each one, even if he’d heard them a million times before. They were a part of Ian, and that meant he loved them too. They were beautiful.
“And oh, maroon! I never pictured you as a redhead… But you totally pulled it off, I bet.”

“There’s always hope,” Shiloh agreed, watching Ian. “He is your sibling after all, and you turned out alright. Well, better than alright, but I might have some bias, just a little. Still, I don’t think he’s a bad guy… Annoying maybe, but I think he’s just… He needs to let himself just be a regular guy.
He scooted closer, so there wasn’t a fraction of space between them.
“I guess I’ll just have to start charting progress now,” he said slyly, throwing his arms around Ian’s middle. “C’mon, let’s see it! For science!”

Shiloh laughed, shaking his head at the two of them. “We haven’t really branched out all that much, huh? Well, I’m pretty sure I’m not related to anyone else, and who knows even what this means. But you do have relatives… I don’t know.”
He sat thinking it over.
“I mean, the relatives I do remember, its not like I would want them here anyway. Is… Is that how you felt about Alistaire? I noticed, well, he seems to be listening to you better now, so that’s a good thing, right?”

sibling awareness day“My precious wittle Ian,” Shiloh teased, reaching over to pinch one of his cheeks. He didn’t really understand the idea of family being strangers, but then as he thought of the album, filled with pictures of people he didn’t remember yet people he might be related to, maybe it was like that. No real kinship or ties, yet still related. “I would have killed for some distance in my family,” he laughed. “It’s funny the way things turn out, isn’t it? But you’re right, I have a new family too and it’s perfect.” He grinned, and promptly gave Ian a kiss. “I’m happy that we’re making a new home together.”

sibling awareness day
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," said Ian in exasperation, playfully batting Shiloh's prying fingers away from his cheeks. "Ickle Iankins."
His expression softened a little. "I would have killed for some closeness in my family," Ian admitted. "It's strange, you know, from the other end of the spectrum. We think we know what we want and then we see what other people have, and it's like...well, you know."
His lips curved upwards against Shiloh's.
"You and I can make our own family together," said Ian, touching the side of Shiloh's neck affectionately. "We'll have our own home."

the album
Ian responded without saying anything, obediently reaching down pulling up the hem of his shirt. Horizontally against his left hipbone, to the side of his navel, آخر الحياة الموت was printed in clear, looping black ink. "It basically means...'the end of life is death,' or 'live live to the fullest,' however you want to look at it," said Ian, with a slightly wry smile. "That was my first one, right out of high school, and just to piss off my parents, but it's much more meaningful now."
He let his shirt drop back down, Ian turning his wrist over and pulling up the bracelets so that the small little anchor was visible on the right side of his right wrist. "This one was for Patrick," Ian said quietly, a gentle smile on his face. "For all the times he kept me grounded."
The second-to-last last tattoo was on the same arm, but up on the inside of his upper arm, and Ian twisted a little so that Shiloh could see it better - the simple, plain English words that read Nothing stays the same.
"That one is pretty obvious, I think," he said, with a small laugh as he let his arm fall back down again.
The very last tattoo (at least for now) was entirely hidden beneath the bandages on his neck and hopefully forgotten. Ian took a small breath and smiled, poking Shiloh's nose.
"Don't you have any tattoos, duck?"Quote: SO I ACTUALLY FORGOT WHAT THE ONE ON HIS NECK MEANS....I NEED TO FIGURE IT OUT....

"We need better friends," Ian deadpanned, pretending to look horrified at everything, but then he smiled, lifting a hand to rest on Shiloh's shoulder, absently curling a pale blue strand of his hair around his fingers. "I don't really know, either," Ian said, a little sheepishly. "I'm not very good at the whole...familial thing, really, I mean, just look at Alistaire and me."
His hand smoothed over Shiloh's hair now, gentle and soothing as Ian thought about it. "I didn't want him here at first," he admitted slowly. "It was...well, it was like being back home all over again; that same sort of imperious, arrogant attitude that made me want to rebel as a teenager. But, well...I think being here has been good for him. At least he seems to understand that we're actually humans, not robots."

"I turned out perfectly amirite," Ian said dramatically, sweeping a hand through his hair and posing majestically (well, as best as he could while lying down). "And nah, you're not biased at all, I mean you thinking about that has nothing to do with the fact that you and I are totally dating."
Ian grinned, eyebrows raised as Shiloh moved closer, burrowing against him.
"Nuh uh," he said, and grabbed Shiloh, hauling him up into his arms so that he could kiss him. "I know what kind of science you're talking about, mister."
