BarAmal listened almost dispassionately to the words of the sobbing shifter. He really didn’t care how often this boy cried so long as he kept his voice down. BarAmal was only to aware how explosed they were so he proded and moved Ta’ruk to where he had hidden him before. While the cover wasn’t ideal it was better than simply standing in the open like fools. More over made Ta’ruk move. BarAmal noticed he didn’t move with a limp or injury other than what seemed to be garden varity soreness. So his body was stronger even his heart and head were weak. Would the prentice keep his word and come back one day?

BarAmal’s inner voice scoffed at the notion and he just kept listening memorized details of the boy’s family.

Ta’ruk finally finished describing his father by pointing out the sash that he himself wore. “He would be wearing something like this. It’s a bit lighter in color due to how often he was out in the sun, my mother used to tell him if he was out during the daylight anymore he would have it as white as moonlight.” He chuckled weakly thinking of how often his mother cursed and muttered under her breath each time she had to wash that sash, though never let her attitude show in front of her husband, instead she just playfully teased him about it. Clutching his sash with one hand tear threatened him again making it hard to breath. He found himself instinctively curling into the warmth of the body next to him though he didn’t like the other prentice at all. The body he pressed against stiffened like a board in an instant, though an arm did hold him close, but Ta’ruk just kept where he was and cried quietly.

BarAmal wanted nothing more at that moment than to shove this whining irritating coward off a cliff yet he couldn’t move. He had heard a noise and keeping Ta’ruk pressed against him was the only way to keep him muffled. BarAmal strained his ears listened to the soft din of the forest around them slowly turning his head to check for signs of enemies. He counted off two hundred heartbeats than a dozen more before he relaxed his hold on the shifter and gave just enough push to be clear there should be some space between them. The other seemed to accept this with no complaint. Had he even realized there could still be a threat around? Again that small voice in the back of his mind said it was pointless to try and help this fool more over the oath was useless since Ta’ruk wouldn’t last a year alone outside of his home. Bitting his lip BarAmal did something against his better judgment. “In Tale go to Isd. It’s a small place up toward Zenna and Sauti. My mother is an archer there and can help you if you need it.” More than likely she would meet the shifter form a negative opinion of the coward like BarAmal had and then scold him for his carelessness later.

Sitting numbly random bits of his life flashed by while he stared at nothing. He was still crying but it wasn’t as bad after being comforted by this stranger who knew so little about him yet was helping him just as much as he had been pushing him. Ta’ruk didn’t understand it. Still his family would be found and if alive maybe told where he had gone. If not… then at least a prayer would be said for them and they could be named and not just left to a void of oblivion. “The moon.” His words were barely a whisper and it was clear by the way the other looked that he wasn’t quite certain what to make of that statement. “My family worshiped by the light of the moon.” He didn’t know what heathen gods if any at all this stranger worshiped so he wanted the prayers at least said in the light of the moon for his family.

BarAmal nodded and was vigilant of his surroundings. He clicked his fingers in front of Ta’ruk until he paid attention. “Move quietly and quickly. I heard something before. It’s gone now but I don’t know what it was.” BarAmal’s whisper was harsh. “I will keep my word and find your family if I can so you must keep yours as well. Live now so you make pray for them all later.” Standing up and slinking away into the underbrush he wondered if all this was useless. No, in a way it was alright thought the other prentice was leaving and would likely never come back but at least his family would be cared for if they were alive and could be told at least the direction Ta’ruk was pointed in. whether he actually headed that way to not was up to him. As was surviving the trip. BarAmal tried to push out thoughts of Ta’ruk he had other maters to focus on. Such as finding that shifter family as well as his own father.

Ta’ruk didn’t look back even though deep in his heart he wanted to. He was now oath bound to return to a hell he never wanted to even think of. His family likely would never see him again and more than that he hated himself for not having the courage to turn and head back into danger like the half shifter. Biting his lip until blood ran down his chin he kept moving the underbrush a blur of vines and sounds. Coward, fool.. those cold words ran though his head as he ran faster trying to escape them. Someday. Someday he would keep his promise and go back even if it chilled his soul. He wasn’t certain if BarAmal could find his family or if he would truly keep his word but Ta’ruk would keep his and go back and pray for them all, BarAmal as well if he fell. Ta’ruk would not stay as he was forever. He was determined to change though he didn’t know how to. For now he had to flee. Survive and not get caught by the enemy or a wild beast. Change could only come later if he survived this present.
