Milieu jerked at the sudden lash of the toxic tongue, her eyes staring at the Lusus in bewilderment and surprise. In that instant she sensed that the tension and pain of before was about to return. Before she could do anything, the little orange troll shrieked fiercely and hid. Her Lusus, understandably, reacted with conviction and anger to protect the small troll. With a roar, the lusus began to thrash and lash out it's tongue. A distinctly bitter almond scent filled the air.
Whipping around, Mili watched with horror as the beast lashed out at Vremea. There were few times when the teal troll wished fate had been kinder and had not taken away the ability to speak. This was one of those time. She wanted to scream, to call Vremea's name. Instead, her mouth opened, but no words came out. She reached with futility, as if the action of grasping for someone no matter the distance would bring them near, to Vremea.
Mili was still near the little one, but... Vremea was caught of the other side of the lusus. VREMEA!? VREMEA! Her throat strained, but all that came out was a soft grunting sound.
"MILIEU!"
Relief washed over the matchmaker from head to toe. She was alive... Thank God.
Vremea, please be well. I'm so sorry... I almost got you killed. Clutching her chest, the teal troll sunk to her knees and watched the little orange baby sob. Milieu had never lost someone close to her... Sure it had been nerve wracking during the battle of OHC, but there was so much to do that emotions and realizations were not capable of piercing the chaos.
Is this what she's going through? This girl lost someone close to her too. If I lost Vremea.... Swimming before her eyes were fresh tears, that trailed down her cheeks as she pinched both eyes closed in pain. No.. I simply can't think of that. This poor girl. This poor little innocent girl. She can't read and possibly can't hear...
Rubbing her tears away, Milieu gently wrapped an arm round the orange troll and held her tightly. When the other seemed to calm, Mili pulled back. The little troll looked up at her.
Smiling sadly, Milieu took to drawing out the message. First it was a hive that looked like the one they were in, and a rendering of the lusus outside. To drive it home, Milieu motioned to all around them. Erasing it, she redrew a picture of a new hive with the little troll and her lusus standing outside. They were happy looking!
Erasing that, she drew a picture of her and the orange troll hugging, and then a picture of Vremea and the orange troll playing together. Hopefully the message would be clear:
It would get better. And they would friends. Soon she'd be happy and safe.

The little troll watched, transfixed by the display before her. And as she did, she drew closer to Milieu. Her lusus circled around the two, curiously tilting her head to and fro to see what the fuss was about. Her child was finally behaving. How did this troll get through to her? The orangeblood looked upon the board with amazement. There was finally a flicker of hope. She took Milieu's pen and shakily drew three circles and a stem. An auspicing club. The construction area had quieted. Volunteers went back to work, and many stood ready for their directions courtesy of Milieu Aojiro. Magician Arcana Quote the mule when you are finished, and Milieu's growth quest will be complete!

How could I have been so blind? Milieu nodded slowly, seeing the club mark. Auspicing. That was what she had just done, wasn't it? How odd... That's what she had done ALL day. Been a mediator between two parties. I guess I've been growing up.She kissed the orange troll's forehead and left the hive with whiteboard in hand. Writing down the next directions, the hive construction began again. Vremea. There she was. Relieved, Milieu approached and wrapped her arms tightly around Vremmy. She wasn't sure what Vremea was to her, but whatever it was, it was very important.

Vremea had recoiled almost immediately when she saw the lusus attack her. She had backed off immediately, but not after letting out a shrill yell to Milieu-- dear god, that scared the crap out of her... She could take a hint, thank you very much threatening-orangeblood-girl-lusus. With a pounding in her chest, Vremea inched away carefully, feeling bad she even tried, silently cheering Milieu on-- she seemed like a pro at this. Watching the scene, still startled, she felt a happy smile slide onto her face when she saw Milieu get through to the young one. This was great... watching her leave the hive, Vremea felt her body's tension dissolve slowly.
Feeling Milieu pull her into a hug, Vremea rubbed her back comfortingly, feeling a lot calmer now. "You did very well, Milieu." She whispered softly, then pat the young females head. Her symbol really did suit the younger girl. "I am so proud of you, Milieu. I'm glad you're alright...!"
